Long-term trends in tropical cyclone tracks around Korea and Japan in late summer and early fall
This study investigates long-term trends in tropical cyclones (TCs) over the extratropical western North Pacific (WNP) over a period of 35 years (1982-2016). The area analyzed extended across 30-45 degrees N and 120-150 degrees E, including the regions of Korea and Japan that were seriously affected by TCs. The northward migration of TCs over the WNP to the mid-latitudes showed a sharp increase in early fall. In addition, the duration of TCs over the WNP that migrated northwards showed an increase, specifically in early to mid-September. Therefore, more recently, TC tracks have been observed to significantly extend into the mid-latitudes. The recent northward extension of TC tracks over the WNP in early fall was observed to be associated with changes in environmental conditions that were favorable for TC activities, including an increase in sea surface temperature (SST), decrease in vertical wind shear, expansion of subtropical highs, strong easterly steering winds, and an increase in relative vorticity. In contrast, northward migrations of TCs to Korea and Japan showed a decline in late August, because of the presence of unfavorable environmental conditions for TC activities. These changes in environmental conditions, such as SST and vertical wind shear, can be partially associated with the Pacific decadal oscillation
Global regularity criterion for the 3D Navier-Stokes equations involving one entry of the velocity gradient tensor

nine entries of the gradient tensor, i.e., the Jacobian matrix of the velocity
vector field, for the global regularity of strong solutions to the
three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations in the whole space, as well as for
the case of periodic boundary conditions
Single Spin Measurement using Single Electron Transistors to Probe Two Electron Systems
We present a method for measuring single spins embedded in a solid by probing
two electron systems with a single electron transistor (SET). Restrictions
imposed by the Pauli Principle on allowed two electron states mean that the
spin state of such systems has a profound impact on the orbital states
(positions) of the electrons, a parameter which SET's are extremely well suited
to measure. We focus on a particular system capable of being fabricated with
current technology: a Te double donor in Si adjacent to a Si/SiO2 interface and
lying directly beneath the SET island electrode, and we outline a measurement
strategy capable of resolving single electron and nuclear spins in this system.
We discuss the limitations of the measurement imposed by spin scattering
arising from fluctuations emanating from the SET and from lattice phonons. We
conclude that measurement of single spins, a necessary requirement for several
proposed quantum computer architectures, is feasible in Si using this strategy.Comment: 22 Pages, 8 Figures; revised version contains updated references and

A Search for Correlation of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays with IRAS-PSCz and 2MASS-6dF Galaxies
We study the arrival directions of 69 ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs)
observed at the Pierre Auger Observatory (PAO) with energies exceeding 55 EeV.
We investigate whether the UHECRs exhibit the anisotropy signal expected if the
primary particles are protons that originate in galaxies in the local universe,
or in sources correlated with these galaxies. We cross-correlate the UHECR
arrival directions with the positions of IRAS-PSCz and 2MASS-6dF galaxies
taking into account particle energy losses during propagation. This is the
first time that the 6dF survey is used in a search for the sources of UHECRs
and the first time that the PSCz survey is used with the full 69 PAO events.
The observed cross-correlation signal is larger for the PAO UHECRs than for 94%
(98%) of realisations from an isotropic distribution when cross-correlated with
the PSCz (6dF). On the other hand the observed cross-correlation signal is
lower than that expected from 85% of realisations, had the UHECRs originated in
galaxies in either survey. The observed cross-correlation signal does exceed
that expected by 50% of the realisations if the UHECRs are randomly deflected
by intervening magnetic fields by 5 degrees or more. We propose a new method of
analysing the expected anisotropy signal, by dividing the predicted UHECR
source distribution into equal predicted flux radial shells, which can help
localise and constrain the properties of UHECR sources. We find that the 69 PAO
events are consistent with isotropy in the nearest of three shells we define,
whereas there is weak evidence for correlation with the predicted source
distribution in the two more distant shells in which the galaxy distribution is

Confront Holographic QCD with Regge Trajectories of vectors and axial-vectors
We derive the general 5-dimension metric structure of the system in
type II superstring theory, and demonstrate the physical meaning of the
parameters characterizing the 5-dimension metric structure of the
\textit{holographic} QCD model by relating them to the parameters describing
Regge trajectories. By matching the spectra of vector mesons with
deformed soft-wall model, we find that the spectra of vector mesons
can be described very well in the soft-wall model, i.e,
soft-wall model. We then investigate how well the soft-wall
model can describe the Regge trajectory of axial-vector mesons . We find
that the constant component of the 5-dimension mass square of axial-vector
mesons plays an efficient role to realize the chiral symmetry breaking in the
vacuum, and a small negative correction in the 5-dimension mass square is

Asymmetric Bethe-Salpeter equation for pairing and condensation
The Martin-Schwinger hierarchy of correlations are reexamined and the
three-particle correlations are investigated under various partial summations.
Besides the known approximations of screened, ladder and maximally crossed
diagrams the pair-pair correlations are considered. It is shown that the
recently proposed asymmetric Bethe-Salpeter equation to avoid unphysical
repeated collisions is derived as a result of the hierarchical dependencies of
correlations. Exceeding the parquet approximation we show that an asymmetry
appears in the selfconsistent propagators. This form is superior over the
symmetric selfconsistent one since it provides the Nambu-Gorkov equations and
gap equation for fermions and the Beliaev equations for bosons while from the
symmetric form no gap equation results. The selfenergy diagrams which account
for the subtraction of unphysical repeated collisions are derived from the
pair-pair correlation in the three-particle Greenfunction. It is suggested to
distinguish between two types of selfconsistency, the channel-dressed
propagators and the completely dressed propagators, with the help of which the
asymmetric expansion completes the Ward identity and is -derivable.Comment: 12 pages. 26 figure
Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadrons containing at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV
By analyzing the data sets of 17.3, 6.5 and 1.0 pb taken,
respectively, at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV with the BES-II
detector at the BEPC collider, we measure the observed cross sections for

and at the three energy

cross sections and the branching fractions for decay into these

The energy spectrum of all-particle cosmic rays around the knee region observed with the Tibet-III air-shower array
We have already reported the first result on the all-particle spectrum around
the knee region based on data from 2000 November to 2001 October observed by
the Tibet-III air-shower array. In this paper, we present an updated result
using data set collected in the period from 2000 November through 2004 October
in a wide range over 3 decades between eV and eV, in which
the position of the knee is clearly seen at around 4 PeV. The spectral index is
-2.68 0.02(stat.) below 1PeV, while it is -3.12 0.01(stat.) above 4
PeV in the case of QGSJET+HD model, and various systematic errors are under
