Spectral splits of neutrinos as a BCS-BEC crossover type phenomenon

We show that the spectral split of a neutrino ensemble which initially consists of electron type neutrinos, is analogous to the BCS-BEC crossover already observed in ultra cold atomic gas experiments. Such a neutrino ensemble mimics the deleptonization burst of a core collapse supernova. Although these two phenomena belong to very different domains of physics, the propagation of neutrinos from highly interacting inner regions of the supernova to the vacuum is reminiscent of the evolution of Cooper pairs between weak and strong interaction regimes during the crossover. The Hamiltonians and the corresponding many-body states undergo very similar transformations if one replaces the pair quasispin of the latter with the neutrino isospin of the former.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

Investigating the perceptions of preservice teachers on collaborative in-situ microteaching

    Get PDF
Micro-teaching has been criticized for its artificial nature, limited practice period, and inadequate feedback. Giving preservice teachers in-situ opportunities that they can collaborate on lesson planning, teach, and receive peer feedback can assist in addressing these drawbacks. To that end, an intervention study was devised to provide in-situ microteaching for preservice English teachers (PT). Following the intervention, we solicited PTs' feedback on the impact of the collaborative in-situ microteaching experience on their pedagogical knowledge development. A total of 41 PTs participated in the 14-week intervention program offered as part of the Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) course. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected during this intervention study. A survey created by the researchers was used to gather quantitative data, and the reflection papers submitted by the participating PTs served as a source of qualitative data. The results revealed that participants rated the experience as having a moderate overall contribution to their pedagogical knowledge development. Collaborative in-situ microteaching (CiM) had a slightly higher influence on student teachers’ lesson delivery skills than on their lesson planning skills. As per the qualitative data, the most frequently mentioned benefits were acquiring expertise in classroom management, material development and lesson planning, and getting to know young learners

DergiPark: 326402trakyasobedThis article discusses some of the problems of language from the perspective of philosophy. The problems under focus are the varlık alanı of language; the relation between human-beings and language, thus the relation between thought and language; the relation between object and language and the roots of language. Our aim is not to offer a solution to these problems, but to show variety of approaches and to call attention to the differences and similaritiesMakalede dilin bazı problemlerine felsefenin bakış açısıyla bakmaya çalışılmaktadır. Bunlar; dilin varlık alanı nedir, dil-insan dolayısıyla dil-düşünce ilişkisi nedir, nesnelerle sözcükler arasında nasıl bir bağlantı vardır, dilin kökeni gibi sorulardır. Amacımız bu problemlere çözüm sunmaktan çok, yaklaşımların çeşitliliğine, her birinin farklı yanlarına dikkat çekmek olacaktı

DergiPark: 326478trakyasobedIn this article, short story which is considered under the heading of narrative text type, was examined in relation to the questions of what a short story is and what the features of it are. In this direction, in order to draw a frame, we first examined various definitions of narrative texts and discussed the components. Through this discussion we tried to build the relation between narrative texts and short story. As a last step the features of short story both from the perspective of its historical development and of different thinkers working on the theory of short storyBu makalede, tür olarak anlatı metni başlığı altında incelenen modern kısa öykünün ne olduğu ve ne gibi özelliklere sahip olduğu soruları irdelenmektedir.

Ankara : The Department of Computer Engineering and Institute Engineering and Science of Bilkent University, 2002.Thesis (Master's) -- Bilkent University, 2002.Includes bibliographical references leaves 48-51.While modeling an object-oriented software, a visual language called Unified Modeling Language (UML) may be used. UML is a language and notation for specification, construction, visualization, and documentation of models of software systems. It consists of a variety of diagrams including class diagrams and activity diagrams. Graph layout has become an important area of research in Computer Science for the last couple of decades. There is a wide range of applications for graph layout including data structures, databases, software engineering, VLSI technology, electrical engineering, production planning, chemistry, and biology. Diagrams are more effective means of expressing relational information and automatic graph layout makes them to be more comprehensible. In other words, with graph layout techniques, the readability and the comprehensibility of the graphs increases and the complexity is reduced. UML diagrams are no exception. In this thesis, we present graph layout algorithms for UML activity diagrams based on constrained hierarchical layout. We use an existing implementation of constrained hierarchical layout to draw UML activity diagrams. We analyze and present the results of these new layout algorithms.Yüksel, H MehmetM.S

Likely astrophysical sources of detectable high-energy (>> TeV) neutrinos are considered. Based on gamma-ray emission properties, the most probable sources of neutrinos are argued to be GRBs, blazars, microquasars, and supernova remnants. Diffuse neutrino sources are also briefly considered.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, in Proc. of TeV-Particle Astrophysics II, Madison, WI, 28-31 Aug, 200

Are opinion leaders also opinion seekers? A research about technological products

Opinion leadership is the subject of many studies but the numbers of the studies about opinion seekers are less. In some product groups there are some available studies which suggest that opinion leaders are also opinion seekers. But these studies are unfortunately inedaquate and the findings are also controversial. Therefore, this research is aim that the proposal of opinion leaders also being opinion seekers is investigated through technological products (computer, smartphone, house electronics, etc.). In that context self-evaluation survey forms are used in the research and 184 valid forms are used in the analysis. According to the findings, for technological products, only 19% of the respondents are found to be both opinion leaders and opinion seekers in a relationship. In addition, it is found that opinion leadership and opinion seeking are not dependent on age and marital status; but there are differences according to other demographic variables

Hopf cycles in one-sector optimal growth models with time delay

This paper analyzes the existence of Hopf bifurcation and establishes the conditions under which the equilibrium path converges toward periodic solutions in a one-sector optimal growth model with delay. We establish the limits and the possibilities of nonlinear dynamics (i.e., cycles) vis-à-vis delays. In particular, we formulate a new method to further comprehend the root distribution of the characteristic equation of a standard optimal growth model with delayed investment structure. We show that nonmonotonic dynamics (limit cycles, persistent oscillations) occurs when the delayed investment causes permanent adjustment failures among the economic variables in the economy. © Cambridge University Press 2016

The Masticatory Contractile Load Induced Expression and Activation of Akt1/PKBα in Muscle Fibers at the Myotendinous Junction within Muscle-Tendon-Bone Unit

    Get PDF
The cell specific detection of enzyme activation in response to the physiological contractile load within muscle-tendon-bone unit is essential for understanding of the mechanical forces transmission from muscle cells via tendon to the bone. The hypothesis that the physiological mechanical loading regulates activation of Akt1/PKBα at Thr308 and at Ser473 in muscle fibers within muscle-tendon-bone unit was tested using quantitative immunohistochemistry, confocal double fluorescence analysis, and immunoblot analysis. In comparison to the staining intensities in peripheral regions of the muscle fibers, Akt1/PKBα was detected with a higher staining intensity in muscle fibers at the myotendinous junction (MTJ) areas. In muscle fibers at the MTJ areas, Akt1/PKBα is dually phosphorylated at Thr308 and Ser473. The immunohistochemical results were confirmed by immunoblot analysis. We conclude that contractile load generated by masticatory muscles induces local domain-dependent expression of Akt1/PKBα as well as activation by dually phosphorylation at Thr308 and Ser473 in muscle fibers at the MTJ areas within muscle-tendon-bone unit
