Exotic quark effects on the Higgs sector of the USSM at the LHC
The Higgs sector of the U(1)-extended supersymmetric model is studied with
great detail. We calculate the masses of the Higgs bosons at the one-loop
level. We also calculate at the one-loop level the gluon-involving processes
for the productions and decays of the scalar Higgs bosons of the model at the
energy of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), where the radiative corrections
due to the loops of top, bottom, and exotic quarks and their scalar partners
are taken into account. We find that the exotic quark and exotic scalar quarks
in the model may manifest themselves at the LHC, since the production of the
heaviest scalar Higgs boson via gluon fusion processes is mediated virtually by
the loops of exotic quark and exotic scalar quarks, for a reasonable parameter
set of the model.Comment: 36 pages, 13 figures, JP

Spontaneous Violation of the CP Symmetry in the Higgs Sector of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Model
The spontaneous violation of the CP symmetry in the next-to-minimal
supersymmetric standard Model (NMSSM) is investigated. It is found that the
spontaneous violation of the CP symmetry can occur in the Higgs sector of the
NMSSM for a wide region of the parameter space of the model, at the 1-loop
level where the radiative corrections due to the top quark and scalar-top quark
loops are found to generate the scalar-pseudoscalar mixings between the two
Higgs doublets of the NMSSM. In our model, we assume that the masses of the
left-handed and the right-handed scalar-top quarks are not degenerate. And we
investigate our model anaytically: We derive analytical formulae of the 1-loop
mass matrix for the neutral Higgs bosons. We calculate the upper bound on the
lightest neutral Higgs boson mass under the assumption. It is found to be about
140 GeV for our choice of parameter values in the presence of the spontaneous
violation of the CP symmetry in the NMSSM. Thus, the possibility of the
spontaneous violation of the CP symmetry is not completely ruled out in the
Higgs sector of the NMSSM if the masses of the left-handed and the right-handed
scalar-top quarks are not degenerate. Further, the phenomenology of the
- mixing within the context of our model is studied. The lower
bound on CP violating phase in the - mixing is found to increase
if either decreases or increases.Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures, To appear in Phys. Rev.
Trypsin Inhibitor. V. Nutritive Value of Treated Soybean Oil Meal and Some Characteristics of the Trypsin Inhibitor in Soybeans
The marked improvement in the apparent nutritive value of soybean protein after heating has long been recognized. The fundamental cause of this improvement has never been fully understood. Furthermore, commercial soybean oil meal varies considerably in nutritive value although heat treatment is common in most processing plants. Since heating is generally regarded as deleterious to the nutritive quality of protein, the following investigations of various treatments of soybean oil meal are of particular importance in developing a soybean or soybean oil meal of maximum and uniform nutritive value

The mucosal adjuvant cholera toxin B instructs non-mucosal dendritic cells to promote IgA production via retinoic acid and TGF-β
It is currently unknown how mucosal adjuvants cause induction of secretory immunoglobulin A (IgA), and how T cell-dependent (TD) or -independent (TI) pathways might be involved. Mucosal dendritic cells (DCs) are the primary antigen presenting cells driving TI IgA synthesis, by producing a proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL), B cell activating factor (BAFF), Retinoic Acid (RA), TGF-beta or nitric oxide (NO). We hypothesized that the mucosal adjuvant Cholera Toxin subunit B (CTB) could imprint non-mucosal DCs to induce IgA synthesis, and studied the mechanism of its induction. In vitro, CTB-treated bone marrow derived DCs primed for IgA production by B cells without the help of T cells, yet required co-signaling by different Toll-like receptor (TLR) ligands acting via the MyD88 pathway. CTB-DC induced IgA production was blocked in vitro or in vivo when RA receptor antagonist, TGF-beta signaling inhibitor or neutralizing anti-TGF-beta was added, demonstrating the involvement of RA and TGF-beta in promoting IgA responses. There was no major involvement for BAFF, APRIL or NO. This study highlights that synergism between CTB and MyD88-dependent TLR signals selectively imprints a TI IgA-inducing capacity in non-mucosal DCs, explaining how CTB acts as an IgA promoting adjuvant
Neutral Higgs bosons in the MNMSSM with explicit CP violation
Within the framework of the minimal non-minimal supersymmetric standard model
(MNMSSM) with tadpole terms, CP violation effects in the Higgs sector are
investigated at the one-loop level, where the radiative corrections from the
loops of the quark and squarks of the third generation are taken into account.
Assuming that the squark masses are not degenerate, the radiative corrections
due to the stop and sbottom quarks give rise to CP phases, which trigger the CP
violation explicitly in the Higgs sector of the MNMSSM. The masses, the
branching ratios for dominant decay channels, and the total decay widths of the
five neutral Higgs bosons in the MNMSSM are calculated in the presence of the
explicit CP violation. The dependence of these quantities on the CP phases is
quite recognizable, for given parameter values.Comment: 25 pages, 8 figure
Applications of aerospace technology to petroleum extraction and reservoir engineering
Through contacts with the petroleum industry, the petroleum service industry, universities and government agencies, important petroleum extraction problems were identified. For each problem, areas of aerospace technology that might aid in its solution were also identified, where possible. Some of the problems were selected for further consideration. Work on these problems led to the formulation of specific concepts as candidate for development. Each concept is addressed to the solution of specific extraction problems and makes use of specific areas of aerospace technology
Increasing the information provided by probabilistic sensitivity analysis:The relative density plot
Background Results of probabilistic sensitivity analyses (PSA) are frequently visualized as a scatterplot, which is limited through overdrawing and a lack of insight in relative density. To overcome these limitations, we have developed the Relative Density plot (PSA-ReD). Methods The PSA-ReD combines a density plot and a contour plot to visualize and quantify PSA results. Relative density, depicted using a color gradient, is transformed to a cumulative probability. Contours are then plotted over regions with a specific cumulative probability. We use two real-world case studies to demonstrate the value of the PSA-ReD plot. Results The PSA-ReD method demonstrates proof-of-concept and feasibility. In the real-world case-studies, PSA-ReD provided additional visual information that could not be understood from the traditional scatterplot. High density areas were identified by color-coding and the contour plot allowed for quantification of PSA iterations within areas of the cost-effectiveness plane, diminishing overdrawing and putting infrequent iterations in perspective. Critically, the PSA-ReD plot informs modellers about non-linearities within their model. Conclusions The PSA-ReD plot is easy to implement, presents more of the information enclosed in PSA data, and prevents inappropriate interpretation of PSA results. It gives modelers additional insight in model functioning and the distribution of uncertainty around the cost-effectiveness estimate
