Tetrahedral Symmetry in Ground- and Low-Lying States of Exotic A ~ 110 Nuclei
Recent theoretical calculations predict a possible existence of nuclei with
tetrahedral symmetry: more precisely, the mean-field hamiltonians of such
nuclei are symmetric with respect to double point-group Td. In this paper, we
focus on the neutron-rich Zirconium isotopes as an example and present
realistic mean-field calculations which predict tetrahedral ground-state
configurations in 108,110Zr and low-lying excited states of tetrahedral
symmetry in a number of N > 66 isotopes. The motivations for focusing on these
nuclei, as well as a discussion of the possible experimental signatures of
tetrahedral symmetry are also presented.Comment: Accepted in Phys. Rev. C - Rapid Communication
Who I Am: The Meaning of Early Adolescents’ Most Valued Activities and Relationships, and Implications for Self-Concept Research
Self-concept research in early adolescence typically measures young people’s self-perceptions of competence in specific, adult-defined domains. However, studies have rarely explored young people’s own views of valued self-concept factors and their meanings. For two major self domains, the active and the social self, this mixed-methods study identified factors valued most by 526 young people from socioeconomically diverse backgrounds in Ireland (10-12 years), and explored the meanings associated with these in a stratified subsample (n = 99). Findings indicate that self-concept scales for early adolescence omit active and social self factors and meanings valued by young people, raising questions about content validity of scales in these domains. Findings also suggest scales may under-represent girls’ active and social selves; focus too much on some school-based competencies; and, in omitting intrinsically salient self domains and meanings, may focus more on contingent (extrinsic) rather than true (intrinsic) self-esteem
Criticality and Superfluidity in liquid He-4 under Nonequilibrium Conditions
We review a striking array of recent experiments, and their theoretical
interpretations, on the superfluid transition in He in the presence of a
heat flux, . We define and evaluate a new set of critical point exponents.
The statics and dynamics of the superfluid-normal interface are discussed, with
special attention to the role of gravity. If is in the same direction as
gravity, a self-organized state can arise, in which the entire sample has a
uniform reduced temperature, on either the normal or superfluid side of the
transition. Finally, we review recent theory and experiment regarding the heat
capacity at constant . The excitement that surrounds this field arises from
the fact that advanced thermometry and the future availability of a
microgravity experimental platform aboard the International Space Station will
soon open to experimental exploration decades of reduced temperature that were
previously inaccessible.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures, plus harvard.sty style file for references

State authenticity
State authenticity is the sense that one is currently in alignment with one’s true or real self. We discuss state authenticity as seen by independent raters, describe its phenomenology, outline its triggers, consider its well-being and behavioral implications, and sketch out a cross-disciplinary research agenda
Towards a Theoretical Framework for Understanding the Development of Media Related Needs
The question of why people select and prefer particular media activities has led to the development of a number of ‘needs’ approaches to media use. Whilst some frameworks have been developed within the context of media use (e.g. uses and gratifications), others (e.g. Tamborini et al, 2011) look to combine general theories of basic human needs, such as Self-Determination Theory (Deci &Ryan, 1985) with hedonic gratifications. Drawing on these approaches, a framework is proposed that maps findings from children’s and adolescents’ media use to four basic human needs: competence, autonomy, relatedness and hedonic needs. The current paper argues that a basic needs approach is useful for understanding how media-related needs emerge and are expressed through development
Capacitively Coupled Silicon-Organic Hybrid Modulator for 200 Gbit/s PAM-4 Signaling
We demonstrate capacitively coupled silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) modulator with a π-voltage-length product of 1.3 V mm and 3 dB EO bandwidth exceeding 65 GHz. The modulator is used for 200 Gbit/s (100 GBd) PAM-4 signaling
Child Psychosocial Adjustment and Parenting in Families Affected by Maternal HIV/AIDS
Child adjustment and parenting were examined in 23 9-through 16-year-old youth from families affected by maternal HIV infection and 20 same-age peers whose mothers were not infected. Children whose mothers were seropositive reported significantly more externalizing problems. Infected mothers reported less age-appropriate supervision/monitoring relative to non-infected mothers. Better mother-child relationship quality and less impairment in parental supervision/monitoring of age-appropriate youth behaviors were associated with fewer externalizing difficulties among the HIV-positive group only. Similarly, only among HIV-infected mothers was refraining from engaging in inconsistent disciplinary tactics associated with lower reports of internalizing and externalizing problems. These data highlight the promise of programs targeting parenting skills to prevent or ameliorate child difficulties
Nanophotonic modulators and photodetectors using silicon photonic and plasmonic device concepts
Nanophotonic modulators and photodetectors are key building blocks for high-speed optical interconnects in datacom and telecom networks. Besides power efficiency and high electro-optic bandwidth, ultra-compact footprint and scalable co-integration with electronic circuitry are indispensable for highly scalable communication systems. In this paper, we give an overview on our recent progress in exploring nanophotonic modulators and photodetectors that combine the specific strengths of silicon photonic and plasmonic device concepts with hybrid integration approaches. Our work comprises electro-optic modulators that exploit silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) and plasmonic-organic hybrid (POH) integration to enable unprecedented energy efficiency and transmission speed, as well as waveguide-based plasmonic internal photo-emission detectors (PIPED) with record-high sensitivities and bandwidths
