In the 9 subjects undergoing malignant transformation, significant differences were observed between pre and post p53 expression. The relative risk was 188, with a statistical significance of p5% are associated with an increased risk of malignant transformation of this condition. Should our findings be proved in a larger series in the future, the clinical follow-up of these subjects could be modified. This would allow an early diagnosis of any disorder indicative of a potential malignant transformation.Fil: Muiño, A.. Universidad de Buenos Aires. Facultad de Odontología; ArgentinaFil: Adler, I.. High mobility transparent thin-film transistors with amorphous zinc tin oxide channel layer
Transparent thin-film transistors (TTFTs) with an amorphous zinc tin oxide channel layer formed via rf magnetron sputter deposition are demonstrated. Field-effect mobilities of 5–15 and 20–50 cm² V‾¹ s‾¹ are obtained for devices post-deposition annealed at 300 and 600 °C, respectively. TTFTs processed at 300 and 600 °C yield devices with turn-on voltage of 0–15 and −5–5 V, respectively. Under both processing conditions, a drain current on-to-off ratio greater than 10⁷ is obtained. Zinc tin oxide is one example of a new class of high performance TTFT channel materials involving amorphous oxides composed of heavy-metal cations with (n−1)d¹⁰ ns⁰ (n ≥4) electronic configurations
Sustained inflation versus intermittent positive pressure ventilation for preterm infants at birth: respiratory function and vital sign measurements
Objective To characterize respiratory function monitor (RFM) measurements of sustained inflations and intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) delivered non invasively to infants in the Sustained Aeration of Infant Lungs (SAIL) trial and to compare vital sign measurements between treatment arms.Study design We analyzed RFM data from SAIL participants at 5 trial sites. We assessed tidal volumes, rates of airway obstruction, and mask leak among infants allocated to sustained inflations and IPPV, and we compared pulse rate and oxygen saturation measurements between treatment groups. Results Among 70 SAIL participants (36 sustained inflations, 34 IPPV) with RFM measurements, 40 (57%) were spontaneously breathing prior to the randomized intervention. The median expiratory tidal volume of sustained inflations administered was 5.3 mUkg (IQR 1.1-9.2). Significant mask leak occurred in 15% and airway obstruction occurred during 17% of sustained inflations. Among 34 control infants, the median expiratory tidal volume of IPPV inflations was 4.3 mUkg (IQR 1.3-6.6). Mask leak was present in 3%, and airway obstruction was present in 17% of IPPV inflations. There were no significant differences in pulse rate or oxygen saturation measurements between groups at any point during resuscitation. Conclusion Expiratory tidal volumes of sustained inflations and IPPV inflations administered in the SAIL trial were highly variable in both treatment arms. Vital sign values were similar between groups throughout resuscitation. Sustained inflation as operationalized in the SAIL trial was not superior to IPPV to promote lung aeration after birth in this study subgroup.Developmen

High electron mobility W-doped In₂O₃ thin films by pulsed laser deposition
High electron mobility thin films of In₂₋ₓWₓO₃₊y(0≤x≤0.075) were prepared on amorphous SiO₂ and single-crystal yttria-stablized zirconia (001) substrates by pulsed laser deposition. Mobilities ranged between 66 and 112 cm² /Vs depending on the substrate type and deposition conditions, and the highest mobility was observed at a W-dopant concentration of x~0.03. A small band gap shift was detected from films with increasing electron carrier density; the electron effective mass calculated from Burstein-Moss theory was 0.3mₑ. In₂₋ₓWₓO₃₊y films have high visible transmittance of ~80%
Association between anxiety and non-coding genetic variants of the galanin neuropeptide
Galanin, an inhibitory neuropeptide and cotransmitter has long been known to co-localize with noradrenaline and serotonin in the central nervous system. Several human studies demonstrated altered galanin expression levels in major depressive disorder and anxiety. Pharmacological modulation of galanin signaling and transgenic strategies provide further proof for the involvement of the galanin system in the pathophysiology of mood disorders. Little is known, however, on the dynamic regulation of galanin expression at the transcriptional level. The aim of the present study was to seek genetic association of non-coding single nucleotide variations in the galanin gene with anxiety and depression.Six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) occurring either in the regulatory 5' or 3' flanking regions or within intronic sequences of the galanin gene have been genotyped with a high-throughput TaqMan OpenArray qPCR system in 526 healthy students (40% males). Depression and anxiety scores were obtained by filling in the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire. Data were analyzed by ANCOVA and Bonferroni correction was applied for multiple testing. Linkage disequilibrium (LD) analysis was used to map two haploblocks in the analyzed region.A single-locus and a haplotype genetic association proved to be statistically significant. In single-marker analysis, the T allele of the rs1042577 SNP within the 3' untranslated region of the galanin gene associated with greater levels of anxiety (HADS scores were 7.05±4.0 vs 6.15±.15; p = 0.000407). Haplotype analysis revealed an association of the rs948854 C_rs4432027_C allele combination with anxiety [F(1,1046) = 4.140, p = 0.042141, η2 = 0.004, power = 0.529]. Neither of these associations turned out to be gender-specific. These promoter polymorphisms are supposed to participate in epigenetic regulation of galanin expression by creating potentially methylatable CpG dinucleotides. The functional importance of the rs1042577_T allele remains to be elucidated
A common polymorphism of the human cardiac sodium channel alpha subunit (SCN5A) gene is associated with sudden cardiac death in chronic ischemic heart disease
Cardiac death remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Recent research has shed light on pathophysiological mechanisms underlying cardiac death, and several genetic variants in novel candidate genes have been identified as risk factors. However, the vast majority of studies performed so far investigated genetic associations with specific forms of cardiac death only (sudden, arrhythmogenic, ischemic etc.). The aim of the present investigation was to find a genetic marker that can be used as a general, powerful predictor of cardiac death risk. To this end, a case-control association study was performed on a heterogeneous cohort of cardiac death victims (n=360) and age-matched controls (n=300). Five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from five candidate genes (beta2 adrenergic receptor, nitric oxide synthase 1 adaptor protein, ryanodine receptor 2, sodium channel type V alpha subunit and transforming growth factor-beta receptor 2) that had previously been shown to associate with certain forms of cardiac death were genotyped using sequence-specific real-time PCR probes. Logistic regression analysis revealed that the CC genotype of the rs11720524 polymorphism in the SCN5A gene encoding a subunit of the cardiac voltage-gated sodium channel occurred more frequently in the highly heterogeneous cardiac death cohort compared to the control population (p=0.019, odds ratio: 1.351). A detailed subgroup analysis uncovered that this effect was due to an association of this variant with cardiac death in chronic ischemic heart disease (p=0.012, odds ratio =1.455). None of the other investigated polymorphisms showed association with cardiac death in this context. In conclusion, our results shed light on the role of this non-coding polymorphism in cardiac death in ischemic cardiomyopathy. Functional studies are needed to explore the pathophysiological background of this association. © 2015 Marcsa et al. Disorder-induced Room Temperature Ferromagnetism in Glassy Chromites
[[abstract]]We report an unusual robust ferromagnetic order above room temperature upon amorphization of perovskite [YCrO3] in pulsed laser deposited thin films. This is contrary to the usual expected formation of a spin glass magnetic state in the resulting disordered structure. To understand the underlying physics of this phenomenon, we combine advanced spectroscopic techniques and first-principles calculations. We find that the observed order-disorder transformation is accompanied by an insulator-metal transition arising from a wide distribution of Cr-O-Cr bond angles and the consequent metallization through free carriers. Similar results also found in YbCrO3-films suggest that the observed phenomenon is more general and should, in principle, apply to a wider range of oxide systems. The ability to tailor ferromagnetic order above room temperature in oxide materials opens up many possibilities for novel technological applications of this counter intuitive effect.[[journaltype]]國外[[incitationindex]]SCI[[booktype]]電子版[[countrycodes]]GB
Fungal volatile organic compounds: emphasis on their plant growth-promoting
Fungal volatile organic compounds (VOCs) commonly formed bioactive interface between plants and countless of microorganisms on the above- and below-ground plant-fungus interactions. Fungal-plant interactions symbolize intriguingly biochemical complex and challenging scenarios that are discovered by metabolomic approaches. Remarkably secondary metabolites (SMs) played a significant role in the virulence and existence with plant-fungal pathogen interaction; only 25% of the fungal gene clusters have been functionally identified, even though these numbers are too low as compared with plant secondary metabolites. The current insights on fungal VOCs are conducted under lab environments and to apply small numbers of microbes; its molecules have significant effects on growth, development, and defense system of plants. Many fungal VOCs supported dynamic processes, leading to countless interactions between plants, antagonists, and mutualistic symbionts. The fundamental role of fungal VOCs at field level is required for better understanding, so more studies will offer further constructive scientific evidences that can show the cost-effectiveness of ecofriendly and ecologically produced fungal VOCs for crop welfare
