    Vergleich internationaler Konsensus-Empfehlungen zur Erkennung des präsymptomatischen Hochrisikopatienten für den Herzinfarkt in Deutschland

    Summary : The recommendations of the International Task Force for the Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease/International Atherosclerosis Society (ITF/IAS), the US-American Adult Treatment Panel III of the National Cholesterol Education Programs (ATP III) and the 3rd Joint European Guidelines (3JE) for the prevention coronary heart disease (CHD) show good agreement in tertiary prevention. All three guidelines recommend that patients with manifest CHD should have a blood pressure below 140/90 mm Hg and LDL-cholesterol below 2.6 mmol/l (100 mg/dl). By contrast, the three recommendations differ with respect to the prevention of cardiovascular events in asymptomatic high risk patients (secondary prevention), notably in the strategy to be used for risk assessment. Both the ITF/IAS guidelines and the 3JE guidelines can be adapted and realized in the various European countries. We therefore compared the prognostic values of the three recommendations by applying them to the data of male participants of the Prospective Cardiovascular Münster (PROCAM) Study. The ITF/IAS recommendations show the highest specificity (94.5%), positive predictive value (32.0%) and diagnostic efficacy (90.5%); the 3JE guidelines have the highest sensitivity (64.6%) but lowest specificity (77.9%), positive predictive value (17.5%) and diagnostic efficacy (77.0%). The application of the 3JE recommendations would target 25% of German men aged 35-65 years as cardiovascular high risk patients, by contrast to 7.5% through application of the ITF/IAS guidelines.     Oral anticoagulation in the treatment of a spontaneously metastasising murine tumour (3LL).

    The effects of long-term anticoagulation with phenprocoumon on growth of the Lewis lung carcinoma (3LL) were studied. Oral anticoagulation initiated at the day of i.m. transplantation of the 3LL into C57BL mice significantly inhibited primary tumour growth and reduced the number of spontaneous metastases to the lungs. Intermittent anticoagulation was without effect on metastasis formation but still retarded primary growth. There was no influence of anticoagulation on the mean survival time (MST) of tumour-bearing animals. Phenprocoumon appears to improve the results of cyclophosphamide of 5-fluorouracil treatment, but there were no statisticially significant differences. In contrast, bleomycin treatment in combination with adjuvant anticoagulation suggested a possible drug synergy. No significant influence of anticoagulation on the response of the primary tumour to irradiattion was found, though the MST of irradiated and anticoagulated animals was greater than in the solely irradiated controls. The present investigations suggest that coumarin derivatives have some direct tumour-inhibiting capacities, but exert their antimetastatic action via deceleration of the blood clotting mechanism

    Advanced flight control system study

    A fly by wire flight control system architecture designed for high reliability includes spare sensor and computer elements to permit safe dispatch with failed elements, thereby reducing unscheduled maintenance. A methodology capable of demonstrating that the architecture does achieve the predicted performance characteristics consists of a hierarchy of activities ranging from analytical calculations of system reliability and formal methods of software verification to iron bird testing followed by flight evaluation. Interfacing this architecture to the Lockheed S-3A aircraft for flight test is discussed. This testbed vehicle can be expanded to support flight experiments in advanced aerodynamics, electromechanical actuators, secondary power systems, flight management, new displays, and air traffic control concepts

    Testing the Higgs Mechanism in the Lepton Sector with multi-TeV e+e- Collisions

    Multi-TeV e+e- collisions provide with a large enough sample of Higgs bosons to enable measurements of its suppressed decays. Results of a detailed study of the determination of the muon Yukawa coupling at 3 TeV, based on full detector simulation and event reconstruction, are presented. The muon Yukawa coupling can be determined with a relative accuracy of 0.04 to 0.08 for Higgs bosons masses from 120 GeV to 150 GeV, with an integrated luminosity of 5 inverse-ab.     Recent Improvements in the Tracking Code Placet

    The tracking code Placet has recently undergone several improvements. A redesign of its internal data structures and a new user interface based on the mathematical toolbox Octave considerably expanded its simulation capabilities. Several new lattice elements, optimization algorithms and physics processes were added to allow for more complete start-to-end simulations. Finally, the use of the AML language and the Universal Parser Library have extended its interfacing capability. A review of these new features is presented in this paper

    Motivated by the discovery of errors in six of the 135 diagrams in the published five-loop expansions of the β\beta-function and the anomalous dimensions of the O(n){O}(n)-symmetric ϕ4\phi^4-theory in D=4-\ep dimensions we present the results of a full analytic reevaluation of all diagrams. The divergences are removed by minimal subtraction and \ep-expansions are given for the critical exponents η\eta, ν\nu, and ω\omega up to order ϵ5\epsilon^5.Comment: LaTeX file.
