Knowledge Transformations between Frame Systems and RDB Systems
For decades, researchers in knowledge representation (KR) have argued for and against various choices in KR formalisms, such as Rules, Frames, Semantic nets, and Formal logic. In this paper, we present a set of transformations that can be used to move knowledge across two fundamentally different KR formalisms: Frame-based systems and Relational database systems (RDBs). We also describe partial implementations of these transformations for a specific pair of such systems: Protégé and the Postgres RDB system
Overcoming phonon-induced dephasing for indistinguishable photon sources
Reliable single photon sources constitute the basis of schemes for quantum
communication and measurement based quantum computing. Solid state single
photon sources based on quantum dots are convenient and versatile but the
electronic transitions that generate the photons are subject to interactions
with lattice vibrations. Using a microscopic model of electron-phonon
interactions and a quantum master equation, we here examine phonon-induced
decoherence and assess its impact on the rate of production, and
indistinguishability, of single photons emitted from an optically driven
quantum dot system. We find that, above a certain threshold of desired
indistinguishability, it is possible to mitigate the deleterious effects of
phonons by exploiting a three-level Raman process for photon production
Polarized triplet production by circularly polarized photons
A process of the pair production by a circularly polarized photon in the
field of unpolarized atomic electron has been considered in the
Weizaecker-Williams approximation. The degree of longitudinal polarization of
positron and electron has been calculated. An exclusive cross-section as well
as a spectral distribution are obtained. We estimate the accuracy of our
calculations at the level of a few percent. We show the identity of the
positron polarization for considered process and for process of pair production

Arctic and Atlantic waters in the Norwegian Basin, between year variability and potential ecosystem implications
The ocean climate of the southern Norwegian Sea - the Norwegian Basin - is largely set by the relative amount of Atlantic Water in the eastern and Arctic Water in the western region. Here we utilized hydrographic data from repeated sections, together with annually gridded survey data of the upper 1000 m, to resolve the main hydrographic changes over the period 1995-2019. Based on integrated heat -and freshwater content, we divide into three periods. The first period 1995-2005, denoted Arctic, is characterized by relative fresh and cold Atlantic Water overlaying Arctic Intermediate Water that basically covers the whole Norwegian Basin. Differently, the conditions during the period 2006-2016, denoted Atlantic, are warmer and more saline, and the extent and thickness of Arctic Intermediate Water is greatly reduced. During the most recent period denoted Fresh, 2017-2019, there has been a major freshening of the Atlantic waters, the layer of Arctic Intermediate Water has not recovered, but instead a layer of warmer but relative fresh Arctic Water has expanded. We find that increased abundance of the Arctic zooplankton Calanus hyperboreus in the southern and eastern Norwegian Basin coincides with increased extent of Arctic Water. We also note that the overall mesozooplankton biomass in the Norwegian Basin is significantly higher during periods of relative high amount of Arctic Water. Furthermore, we show that both nitrate and silicate winter (pre-bloom) concentrations are significantly higher in the Arctic Water compared to Atlantic Water, and that there is a reduction in nutrients from the Arctic period compared subsequent Atlantic and Fresh periods. Since these nutrients can be interpreted as the potential for new production, changes in the influx of western Arctic waters are expected to have a bottom-up effect on the Norwegian Sea. Hence, this study indicates that the amount of Arctic waters and their concentration of nutrients and zooplankton are more important for the Norwegian Basin ecosystem functioning rather than the temperature of the Atlantic waters.publishedVersio

Demonstration of a self-pulsing photonic crystal Fano laser
Semiconductor lasers in use today rely on mirrors based on the reflection at
a cleaved facet or Bragg reflection from a periodic stack of layers. Here, we
demonstrate an ultra-small laser with a mirror based on the Fano resonance
between a continuum of waveguide modes and the discrete resonance of a
nanocavity. The Fano resonance leads to unique laser characteristics. Since the
Fano mirror is very narrow-band compared to conventional lasers, the laser is
single-mode and in particular, it can be modulated via the mirror. We show,
experimentally and theoretically, that nonlinearities in the mirror may even
promote the generation of a self-sustained train of pulses at gigahertz
frequencies, an effect that was previously only observed in macroscopic lasers.
Such a source is of interest for a number of applications within integrated
photonics

Nordic radiographers’ and students’ perspectives on artificial intelligence – A cross-sectional online survey
INTRODUCTION: The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the domain of radiography holds substantial potential in various aspects including workflow efficiency, image processing, patient positioning, and quality assurance. The successful implementation of AI within a Radiology department necessitates the participation of key stakeholders, particularly radiographers. The study aimed to provide a comprehensive investigation about Nordic radiographers' perspectives and attitudes towards AI in radiography.
METHODS: An online 29-item survey was distributed via social media platforms to Nordic students and radiographers working in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands including items on demographics, specialization, educational background, place of work and perspectives and knowledge on AI. The items were a mix of closed-type and scaled questions, with the option for free-text responses when relevant.
RESULTS: The survey received responses from all Nordic countries with 586 respondents, 26.8% males, 72.1% females, and 1.1% non-binary/self-defined or preferred not to say. The mean age was 37.2 with a standard deviation (SD) of ±12.1 years, and the mean number of years since qualification was 14.2 SD ± 10.3 years. A total of 43% (n = 254) of the respondents had not received any AI training in clinical practice. Whereas 13% (n = 76) had received AI during radiography undergrad training. A total of 77.9% (n = 412) expressed interest in pursuing AI education. The majority of respondents were aware of the potential use of AI (n = 485, 82.8%) and 39.1% (n = 204) had no reservations about AI.
CONCLUSION: Overall, this study found that Nordic radiographers have a positive attitude toward AI. Very limited training or education has been provided to the radiographers. Especially since 82.8% reports on plans to implement AI in clinical practice. In general, awareness of AI applications is high, but the educational level is low for Nordic radiographers.
IMPLICATION FOR PRACTICE: This study emphasises the favourable view of AI held by students and Nordic radiographers. However, there is a need for continuous professional development to facilitate the implementation and effective utilization of AI tools within the field of radiography
