    Resumming large higher-order corrections in non-linear QCD evolution

    Linear and non-linear QCD evolutions at high energy suffer from severe issues related to convergence, due to higher order corrections enhanced by large double and single transverse logarithms. We resum double logarithms to all orders by taking into account successive soft gluon emissions strongly ordered in lifetime. We further resum single logarithms generated by the first non-singular part of the splitting functions and by the one-loop running of the coupling. The resulting collinearly improved BK equation admits stable solutions, which are used to successfully fit the HERA data at small-x for physically acceptable initial conditions and reasonable values of the fit parameters.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, based on talk given at Hard Probes 2015, 29 June - 3 July 2015, Montreal, Canad

    Resummation of Large Logarithms in the Rapidity Evolution of Color Dipoles

    Perturbative corrections beyond leading-log accuracy to BFKL and BK equations, describing the rapidity evolution of QCD scattering amplitudes at high energy, exhibit strong convergence problems due to radiative corrections enhanced by large single and double transverse logs. We identify explicitly the physical origin of double transverse logs and resum them directly in coordinate space as appropriate for BK equation, in terms of an improved local-in-rapidity evolution kernel.     A review of therapeutic effects of mesenchymal stem cell secretions and induction of secretory modification by different culture methods

    The mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) is being broadly studied in clinical trials. Contrary to the early paradigm of cell replacement and differentiation as a therapeutic mechanism of action, evidence is mounting that the secretions of the cells are responsible for their therapeutic effects. These secretions include molecules and extracellular vesicles that have both local and distant effects. This review summarizes the up- and down-regulation of MSC anti-inflammatory, immune modulating, anti-tumor, and regenerative secretions resulting from different stimuli including: a) hypoxia, which increases the production of growth factors and anti-inflammatory molecules; b) pro-inflammatory stimuli that induce the secretion of immune modulating and anti-inflammatory factors; and c) 3 dimensional growth which up regulates the production of anti-cancer factors and anti-inflammatory molecules compared to monolayer culture. Finally we review in detail the most important factors present in conditioned medium of MSC that can be considered protagonists of MSC physiological effects including HGF, TGF-b, VEGF, TSG-6, PGE2 and galectins 1, and 9. We conclude that there is potential for the development of acellular therapeutic interventions for autoimmune, inflammatory, and malignant diseases and tissue regeneration from cellular secretions derived from MSCs cultured under the appropriate conditions.The mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) is being broadly studied in clinical trials.     Fast Incoherent OFDR Interrogation of FBG Arrays Using Sparse Radio Frequency Responses

    [EN] We present two implementations of fast, discrete incoherent optical frequency-domain reflectometers (I-OFDR) for the interrogation of equally spaced fiber Bragg grating (FBG) arrays, based on the determination of the array's radio frequency (RF) response at a sparse number of frequencies. FBG reflectivities are determined by use of the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the sparse RF response, in a dynamic range limited by crosstalk induced by FBG positioning errors. The first implementation employs the complete, vector RF response at a number of frequencies equal to the number N of FBGs in the array. In the second, the introduction of a reference reflector allows for an interrogation using the power (phaseless) RF response in 4N - 1 frequencies. Demodulation based on IDFT leads to total interrogation times determined by the network analyzer scan time, which can be as low as 10 mu s per FBG. Depending on the interrogation technique, electrical bandwidth requirements are 12 GHz in our array with 10-cm separation. We implemented both techniques in a N = 10 array, inducing decays in reflectivity by 10 dB in one or several FBGs. Unambiguous detection of FBG decays was obtained in both interrogation methods. Additional tests performed on the measured reflectivities also show that measurement linearity is preserved in the 10-dB decay range. As discrete I-OFDR systems, the proposed techniques show the possibility to reach compromises between interrogation time and dynamic range or accuracy in reflectivity measurements, using the number of interrogation frequencies and the sensor topology.This work was supported in part by Infraestructura GVA-FEDER operative program 2007-2013 and in part by the Spanish MINECO through Project TEC2017-88029-R.     Dynamic Companion Harmonic Circuit Models for Analysis of Power Systems with Embedded Power Electronics Devices

    In this paper a methodology that extends the dynamic harmonic domain (DHD) analysis of large networks is presented. The method combines DHD analysis and discrete companion circuit modeling resulting in a powerful analytic technique called dynamic companion harmonic circuit modeling. It provides for a complete dynamic harmonic analysis of the system while preserving the advantages of discrete companion circuit models. The methodology is illustrated by its application to a three-node power system, where reactive power compensation is achieved using a fixed-capacitor, thyristor-controlled reactor (FC-TCR) and its control system

    Estructura de la comunidad de peces en cuatro estuarios del Pacífico mexicano central

    ResumenSe analizó la estructura de la comunidad de peces y se determinaron algunos parámetros fisicoquímicos durante 4 colectas nocturnas en la desembocadura de los estuarios de barra de Nexpa, Teolán, Mexcalhuacán y barra de Pichi, Michoacán, México. Se capturaron un total de 2 014 individuos con un peso de 10 393.42g, pertenecientes a 31 especies y 20 familias. Barra de Nexpa registró la mayor riqueza con S=21 y el mayor porcentaje de especies raras con 22.6%. La especies con mayor abundancia fueron Agonostomus montícola y Mugil curema, mientras que Dormitator latifrons y Lutjanus novemfasciatus registraron la mayor biomasa. La salinidad, temperatura, oxígeno disuelto y transparencia mostraron diferencias significativas por temporadas, influidas por la variación estacional de la precipitación. La composición y especies dominantes fueron distintas en cada sitio y en cada temporada, mientras que la abundancia, biomasa y riqueza no mostraron variación significativa. La comunidad de peces estuvo compuesta por especies marinas y dulceacuícolas que utilizan los estuarios como zonas de crianza, especies marinas que se integran al estuario de manera ocasional y especies estuarinas que forman parte de estos ecosistemas durante la mayor parte de su ciclo de vida.AbstractCommunity structure of estuarine fish fauna were analyzed in estuaries of Barra de Nexpa, Teolán, Mexcalhuacán and Barra de Pichi, Michoacán, Mexico for four night collections at the mouth of every estuary. Also, some physicochemical parameters were determined. Were captured a total of 2 014 individuals with a weight of 10 393.42g, belonging to 31 species and 20 families. Barra de Nexpa recorded the highest richness (S=21) and the highest percentage of rare species (22.6%). The most abundant species were Agonostomus montícola and Mugil curema while Lutjanus novemfasciatus and Dormitator latifrons recorded the highest biomass. Salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen and transparency, showed significant seasonal differences influenced by seasonal variation in precipitation. The composition and dominant species were different at each site and in each season while the abundance, biomass and richness showed no significant variation. The fish community was composed of marine and freshwater species that use estuaries as nursery areas, marine species that are incorporated into the estuaries occasionally and estuarine species that are part of these ecosystems for most of its life cycle

    A comparison of viral microneutralization and haemagglutination inhibition assays as measures of seasonal inactivated influenza vaccine immunogenicity in the first year after reduced intensity conditioning, lymphocyte depleted allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplant

    Traditionally, immune response to influenza vaccines has been measured using the haemagglutination inhibition (HAI) assay. A broader repertoire of techniques including the sensitive viral microneutralization (VMN) assay is now recommended by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Comparing HAI and VMN, we determined immune response to a trivalent 2015–2016 seasonal inactivated influenza vaccine (SIIV) administered to 28 recipients of allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). Vaccination was within the first-year post-transplant at a median of 78.5 (24–363) days. The proportion of patients with baseline and post-vaccination HAI titres ≥ 1:40 were 28.6% and 25% for A(H1N1)pdm09, 14.3% at both timepoints for A(H3N2), and 32.1% and 25% for B(Phuket). Pre and Post-vaccination geometric mean titres(GMT) were higher by VMN than HAI for A(H1N1)pdm09 and A(H3N2), but lower for B(Phuket)(p= 0.05) for all components. A single seroconversion to A(H1N1) was detected by ELISA-VMN. None of patient age, lymphocyte count, days from transplant to vaccination, donor type, or graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) or immunosuppressive therapy (IST) at vaccination correlated with baseline or post-vaccination titres by either assay. This absence of seroresponse to SIIV in the first-year post HSCT highlights the need for novel immunogenic vaccination formulations and schedules in this high-risk population
