On the macroion virial contribution to the osmotic pressure in charge-stabilized colloidal suspensions
Our interest goes to the different virial contributions to the equation of
state of charged colloidal suspensions. Neglect of surface effects in the
computation of the colloidal virial term leads to spurious and paradoxical
results. This pitfall is one of the several facets of the danger of a naive
implementation of the so called One Component Model, where the micro-ionic
degrees of freedom are integrated out to only keep in the description the
mesoscopic (colloidal) degrees of freedom. On the other hand, due incorporation
of wall induced forces dissolves the paradox brought forth in the naive
approach, provides a consistent description, and confirms that for salt-free
systems, the colloidal contribution to the pressure is dominated by the
micro-ionic one. Much emphasis is put on the no salt case but the situation
with added electrolyte is also discussed
Nonperturbative Contributions in an Analytic Running Coupling of QCD
In the framework of analytic approach to QCD the nonperturbative
contributions in running coupling of strong interaction up to 4-loop order are
obtained in an explicit form. For all they are shown to be
represented in the form of an expansion in inverse powers of Euclidean momentum
squared. The expansion coefficients are calculated for different numbers of
active quark flavors and for different number of loops taken into
account. On basis of the stated expansion the effective method for precise
calculation of the analytic running coupling can be developed.Comment: 9 pages, LaTeX, 1 table, 1 eps figur
Infrared renormalons and analyticity structure in pQCD
Relation between the infrared renormalons, the Borel resummation
prescriptions, and the analyticity structure of Green functions in perturbative
QCD (pQCD) is investigated. A specific recently suggested Borel resummation
prescription resulted in the Principal Value and an additional power-suppressed
correction that is consistent with the Operator Product Expansion. Arguments
requiring the finiteness of the result for any power coefficient of the leading
infrared renormalon, and the consistency in the case of the absence of that
renormalon, require that this prescription be modified. The apparently most
natural modification leads to the result represented by the Principal Value.
The analytic structure of the amplitude in the complex coupling plane, obtained
in this way, is consistent with that obtained in the literature by other
methods.Comment: 6 pages, revtex4, 1 eps-figure; improved version - the paragraph

Dynamical mass generation by source inversion: Calculating the mass gap of the Gross-Neveu model
We probe the U(N) Gross-Neveu model with a source-term . We
find an expression for the renormalization scheme and scale invariant source
, as a function of the generated mass gap. The expansion of this
function is organized in such a way that all scheme and scale dependence is
reduced to one single parameter d. We get a non-perturbative mass gap as the
solution of . In one loop we find that any physical choice for d
gives good results for high values of N. In two loops we can determine d
self-consistently by the principle of minimal sensitivity and find remarkably
accurate results for N>2.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, added referenc
The mass gap and vacuum energy of the Gross-Neveu model via the 2PPI expansion
We introduce the 2PPI (2-point-particle-irreducible) expansion, which sums
bubble graphs to all orders. We prove the renormalizibility of this summation.
We use it on the Gross-Neveu model to calculate the mass gap and vacuum energy.
After an optimization of the expansion, the final results are qualitatively
good.Comment: 14 pages,19 eps figures, revtex
Scale-independent mixing angles
A radiatively-corrected mixing angle has to be independent of the choice of
renormalization scale to be a physical observable. At one-loop in MS-bar, this
only occurs for a particular value, p*, of the external momentum in the
two-point functions used to define the mixing angle: p*^2=(M1^2+M2^2)/2, where
M1, M2 are the physical masses of the two mixed particles. We examine two
important applications of this to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model:
the mixing angle for a) neutral Higgs bosons and b) stops. We find that this
choice of external momentum improves the scale independence (and therefore
provides a more reliable determination) of these mixing angles.Comment: 14 pages, 11 ps figures Version to appear in PR
Commensurate Scale Relations in Quantum Chromodynamics
We use the BLM method to show that perturbatively-calculable observables in
QCD can be related to each other without renormalization scale or scheme
ambiguity. We define and study the commensurate scale relations. We show that
the commensurate scales satisfy the renormalization group transitivity rule
which ensures that predictions in PQCD are independent of the choice of an
intermediate renormalization scheme. We generalize the BLM procedure to higher
order. The application of this procedure to relate known physical observables
in QCD gives surprisingly simple results. In particular, the annihilation ratio
and the Bjorken sum rule for polarized electroproduction are
related through simple coefficients, which reinforces the idea of a hidden
symmetry between these two observables.Comment: 35 pages (RevTeX), one PostScript figure included at the end.

Infrared Features of the Landau Gauge QCD
The infrared features of Landau gauge QCD are studied by the lattice
simulation of and . We
adopt two definitions of the gauge field; 1) linear 2) and
measured the gluon propagator and ghost propagator. Infrared singularity of the
gluon propagator is less than that of tree level result but the gluon
propagator at 0 momentum remains finite. The infrared singularity of ghost
propagator is stronger than the tree level. The QCD running coupling measured
by using the gluon propagator and the ghost propagator has a maximum
at around and decreases as approaches 0.
The data are analyzed in use of formula of the principle of minimal
sensitivity(PMS), the effective charge method and the contour-improved
perturbation method, which suggest necessity of the resummation of perturbation
series in the infrared region together with existence of the infrared fixed
point. Kugo-Ojima parameter saturates at about -0.8 in contrast to the
theoretically expected value -1.Comment: RevTex4, 9 pages, 10 eps figures, Typos corrected. To be published in

Resummation of Nonalternating Divergent Perturbative Expansions
A method for the resummation of nonalternating divergent perturbation series
is described. The procedure constitutes a generalization of the Borel-Pad\'{e}
method. Of crucial importance is a special integration contour in the complex
plane. Nonperturbative imaginary contributions can be inferred from the purely
real perturbative coefficients. A connection is drawn from the quantum field
theoretic problem of resummation to divergent perturbative expansions in other
areas of physics.Comment: 5 pages, LaTeX, 2 tables, 1 figure; discussion of the Carleman

Resummations of free energy at high temperature
We discuss resummation strategies for free energy in quantum field theories
at nonzero temperatures T. We point out that resummations should be performed
for the short- and long-distance parts separately in order to avoid spurious
interference effects and double-counting. We then discuss and perform Pade
resummations of these two parts for QCD at high T. The resummed results are
almost invariant under variation of the renormalization and factorization
scales. We perform the analysis also in the case of the massless scalar
theory.Comment: 16 pages, revtex4, 15 eps-figures; minor typographic errors
