    International Financial Integration through Depositary Receipts (DRs)

    The issue of liquidity and underdevelopment of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) stock markets has caused problems to companies in those countries that seek higher equity capital. One way out of this problem is to employ international markets more intensively by seeking cheaper cost of capital through Depositary Receipts (DRs). Many studies on DRs focused on emerging and developed countries, leaving many OIC countries behind. Thus, this study investigates the financial implication by examining the integration of returns of local and foreign stock markets via American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) and Global Depositary Receipts (GDRs) of OIC countries. Techniques employed in this study are cointegration and the speed of adjustments to examine the existence of integration between the local and foreign stock markets. The study covers a sample of 146 firms from 17 OIC countries that are cross-listed as ADRs or GDRs from 1992 to 2011. The findings show mixed results when some markets provide evidence of integration while others show evidence of segmentation. The study on the integration between DR and home equity markets has practical implications for both the international as well as domestic investors especially on portfolio selection, asset pricing and risk managemen

    Effect of stripe clearing on 4 grasses species and 2 broadleaves of caldenal

    En la Región del Espinal, Distrito del Caldén, en la provincia de San Luis existe un fuerte proceso de agriculturización con la consecuente pérdida de remanentes de bosque nativo, peligro de conservación de especies nativas e invasión de especies exóticas. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar el efecto del desmonte en franjas sobre 6 especies del caldenal (4 gramíneas y 2 latifoliadas). El estudio se realizó en un campo a 15 km. al norte de la ciudad de Villa Mercedes (San Luis), sometido a un desmonte en franjas para uso agrícola en el año 2003. En 5 sitios ubicados en franjas remanentes de bosque nativo y 5 en bosque nativo sin desmonte, se trazaron transectas de 39 m de longitud, dirección NS y a lo largo de la misma se registraron las especies presentes en 14 unidades de muestreo de 1 m2. Los datos se analizaron utilizando IBM SPSS Statistics 19, mediante Métodos No Paramétricos, U de Mann-Whitney. El análisis estadístico mostró diferencias significativas (p<0.05) en Digitaria californica, Pappophorum pappiferum, Salsola kali y Cestrum parqui. El estudio demostró que el cultivo entre franjas de bosque nativo produjo un cambio en la frecuencia de poáceas nativas y de latifoliadas.In the region of “Espinal”, Calden Distrct in the province of San Luis there is a strong agriculturization process with the consequent loss of native forest remnants, conserving endangered native species and invasion of exotic species. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the stripe clearing on 6 species of caldenal (4 grasses and 2 broa- dleaves). The study was conducted in a field 15 km to the north of the city of Villa Mercedes (San Luis), subjected to a strip-clearing for agricultural use, in the year 2003. On 5 sites into native forest remnants stripes and 5 into without clearing native forest, 39 m long tran- sects were laid, N-S direction, and along the same were recorded the presente species in 14 sampling units of 1 m2. Data were analyzed by IBM SPSS Statistics 19, through non- parametric methods, Mann-Whitney U. Statistical analysis showed significant differences (p <0.05) in Digitaria californica, Pappophorum pappiferum, Salsola kali and Cestrum par- qui.     This paper examines the impact of the Malaysian Syariah Advisory Council’s (SAC) decision on stock eligibility. Specifically, we address four questions related to returns and trading volume of stocks in relation to the SAC’s decision to add or delete a stock to their list of halal stocks. Overall, our findings suggest that inclusions experience a positive impact while deletions negative. Our sample of 39 inclusions showed positive MCAR and increased trading volume. The price impact however was delayed with significant positive MCARs in the 30 and 60 day window periods following announcement. The impact on trading volume appears immediate but short lived. Our Sample of 21 stocks deleted from SAC list experienced negative MCAR and reduced trading volume. These were however statistically significant only in the 60 day window post announcement

    Spatio-temporal landslide inventory and susceptibility assessment using Sentinel-2 in the Himalayan mountainous region of Pakistan

    The 2005 Kashmir earthquake has triggered widespread landslides in the Himalayan mountains in northern Pakistan and surrounding areas, some of which are active and are still posing a significant risk. Landslides triggered by the 2005 Kashmir earthquake are extensively studied; nevertheless, spatio-temporal landslide susceptibility assessment is lacking. This can be partially attributed to the limited availability of high temporal resolution remote sensing data. We present a semi-automated technique to use the Sentinel-2 MSI data for co-seismic landslide detection, landslide activities monitoring, spatio-temporal change detection, and spatio-temporal susceptibility mapping. Time series Sentinel-2 MSI images for the period of 2016–2021 and ALOS PALSAR DEM are used for semi-automated landslide inventory map development and temporal change analysis. Spectral information combined with topographical, contextual, textural, and morphological characteristics of the landslide in Sentinel-2 images is applied for landslide detection. Subsequently, spatio-temporal landslide susceptibility maps are developed utilizing the weight of evidence statistical modeling with seven causative factors, i.e., elevation, slope, geology, aspect, distance to fault, distance to roads, and distance to streams. The results reveal that landslide occurrence increased from 2016 to 2021 and that the coverage of areas of relatively high susceptibility has increased in the study area

    A longitudinal and cross-sectional study of plasma neurofilament light chain concentration in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease

    Advances in genetic technology and small molecule drug development have paved the way for clinical trials in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT); however, the current FDA-approved clinical trial outcome measures are insensitive to detect a meaningful clinical response. There is, therefore, a need to identify sensitive outcome measures or clinically relevant biomarkers. The aim of this study was to further evaluate plasma neurofilament light chain (NFL) as a disease biomarker in CMT. Plasma NFL was measured using SIMOA technology in both a cross-sectional study of a US cohort of CMT patients and longitudinally over 6 years in a UK CMT cohort. In addition, plasma NFL was measured longitudinally in two mouse models of CMT2D. Plasma concentrations of NFL were increased in a US cohort of patients with CMT1B, CMT1X and CMT2A but not CMT2E compared with controls. In a separate UK cohort, over a 6-year interval, there was no significant change in plasma NFL concentration in CMT1A or HSN1, but a small but significant reduction in patients with CMT1X. Plasma NFL was increased in wild type compared to GARSC201R mice. There was no significant difference in plasma NFL in GARSP278KY compared to wild type mice. In patients with CMT1A, the small difference in cross-sectional NFL concentration vs healthy controls and the lack of change over time suggests that plasma NFL may lack sufficient sensitivity to detect a clinically meaningful treatment response in adulthood

    Green Propellant Infusion Mission Program Development and Technology Maturation

    The NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate's (STMD) Green Propellant Infusion Mission (GPIM) Technology Demonstration Mission (TDM) is comprised of a cross-cutting team of domestic spacecraft propulsion and storable green propellant technology experts. This TDM is led by Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. (BATC), who will use their BCP- 100 spacecraft to carry a propulsion system payload consisting of one 22 N thruster for primary divert (DeltaV) maneuvers and four 1 N thrusters for attitude control, in a flight demonstration of the AF-M315E technology. The GPIM project has technology infusion team members from all three major market sectors: Industry, NASA, and the Department of Defense (DoD). The GPIM project team includes BATC, includes Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR), Air Force Research Laboratory, Aerospace Systems Directorate, Edwards AFB (AFRL), NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC), NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC), and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). STMD programmatic and technology oversight is provided by NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. The GPIM project shall fly an operational AF-M315E green propulsion subsystem on a Ball-built BCP-100 spacecraft
