Passivity-preserving splitting methods for rigid body systems

A rigid body model for the dynamics of a marine vessel, used in simulations of offshore pipe-lay operations, gives rise to a set of ordinary differential equations with controls. The system is input-output passive. We propose passivity-preserving splitting methods for the numerical solution of a class of problems which includes this system as a special case. We prove the passivity-preservation property for the splitting methods, and we investigate stability and energy behaviour in numerical experiments. Implementation is discussed in detail for a special case where the splitting gives rise to the subsequent integration of two completely integrable flows. The equations for the attitude are reformulated on SO(3)SO(3) using rotation matrices rather than local parametrizations with Euler angles.Comment: 27 pages, 4 figures. IntroductionIn this study, we aimed to understand adolescents' perspectives on oral health care and promotion. Our research was conducted in the context of Norway's oral health care system, where societal factors like income and education influence health disparities. Despite free public dental care for all residents younger than 19 years, challenges persist in promoting oral health among adolescents, a group whose oral health behavior and literacy remain largely unexplored.Materials and methodsA thematic analysis of an anonymized dataset from 80 adolescents aged 12–20 years was conducted.ResultsFive central themes were recognized: (1) Feeling fresh vs. feeling indifferent: A broad spectrum of attitudes; (2) Bridging gaps, building habits: Collaborative efforts in oral care; (3) “Create good experiences at the dentist so people come back again”; (4) Requested qualities in oral health promoting solutions; (5) Reminder tools for everyday use. Taken together, these themes highlight adolescents' oral health practices and resources, recommendations for dental clinics, and visions for future oral health promotion.DiscussionBased on the results, the discussion highlights a need for tailored oral health promotion and ideas to reach adolescents in meaningful and effective ways. Reflections on the theme of social inequalities are provided

Psychopathy in women: theoretical and clinical perspectives

    Get PDF
Prior research on psychopathy has primarily focused on the problem in men. Only a few studies have examined whether psychopathy even exists in women, and if so, how the disorder manifests itself in them. This paper presents a narrative review of the literature on gender and psychopathy. We briefly discuss why this is an important topic for women and we discuss its causes. The concept of psychopathy is defined and related to the diagnostic systems. The discussion includes a presentation of diagnostic tools, including the Hare Psychology Checklist – Revised, which are examined in relationship to the importance of biological gender. While emphasizing the similarities as well as the differences between the sexes, we discuss the matters of prevalence, behavioral expressions, comorbidity, progression, and treatment of the disorder

    Byggteknisk droneinspeksjon

Determinants of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T during acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a prospective cohort study

Abstract

Background

A high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) concentration above the 99th percentile (i.e. 14 ng/L) is common during Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (AECOPD) and associated with increased mortality. The objective of the study was to identify factors associated with hs-cTnT levels during AECOPD.

Methods

We included 99 patients with AECOPD on admission. As 41 patients had one or more repeat admissions, there were 202 observations in the final analysis. We recorded clinical and biochemical data, medication, spirometry, chest radiographs, and ECGs. The data were analysed for cross-sectional and longitudinal associations using ordinary least square as well as linear mixed models with the natural logarithm of hs-cTnT as the dependent variable.

Results

Mean age at inclusion was 71.5 years, mean FEV1/FVC was 45%, and median hs-cTnT was 27.0 ng/L. In a multivariable model there was a 24% increase in hs-cTnT per 10 years increase in age (p < 0.0001), a 6% increase per 10 μmol/L increase in creatinine (p = 0.037), and a 2% increase per month after enrollment (p = 0.046). Similarly, the ratios of hs-cTnT between patients with and without tachycardia (heart rate ≥100/min) and with and without history of arterial hypertension were 1.25 (p = 0.042) and 1.44 (p = 0.034), respectively. We found no significant association between arterial hypoxemia and elevated hs-cTnT.

Conclusion

Age, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, and serum creatinine are independently associated with the level of hs-cTnT on admission for AECOPD.</p

This research aimed at strengthening the evidence base for interventions to promote the participation and inclusion of children and youth with disabilities in their communities. Four selected municipalities in four different regions of Norway participated. Focus group discussions (FGDs) were carried out in all four municipalities with service providers, children and youth with disabilities, and parents of children and youth with disabilities. The FGDs were used to develop a questionnaire to measure participation indicators. A survey was carried out among 186 children and youth, combining (a) random sampling of children and youth without disabilities and (b) invitations to all children and youth with disabilities, as registered by the municipalities. High-level analyses of the FGDs are presented, indicating the barriers and facilitators for participation for children and youth with disabilities, as well as requests for improvement of services to stimulate participation. The categories of family, technology, and volunteering were identified primarily as facilitators of participation, while school environment was primarily identified as a barrier. The survey measured four different aspects of perception of one’s own participation. Data analyses revealed higher level of environmental barriers among children and youth with disabilities, and lower level of actual participation, satisfaction with one’s own participation and one’s own participation compared with that of peers.publishedVersio
