Study on antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles synthesized by gamma irradiation method using different stabilizers
In order to observe the microbiological status of CMT positive samples, 734 apparently health mammary quarters from buffalo cows were submitted to physical evaluation, strip cup test and CMT. After milk samples inoculation in 10% ovine blood agar base media and in MacConkey agar and incubation under aerobic condition for 72 hours at 37 degrees C, identification was proceeded. According to CMT, 227 quarters (30,93%) were positive, among them 73 (32,16%) presented 1+ reaction, 53 (23,35%) were 2+ and 101 (44,49%) were 3+. Microbiological exams of such samples were positive in 147 (64,76%) out of 227 CMT positive samples and among the remaining 72 (31,72%) were negative and 8 (3,52) were contaminated. In the 147 microbiological positive samples 204 bacteria were found in pure or associated growth and the most frequent agents were: Corynebacterium sp (59,25%); Staphylococcus sp (17,65%) among which 86,11% were coagulase negative and 13,89% were coagulase positive; and Micrococcus sp (6,37%). The results revealed that, excluding the eight contaminated samples, 147 (67,12%) quarters out of 219 CMT positive could be considered as bacteria-carrier and that even in a smaller percentage false-positive results can cause problems in a sanitary program for mastitis control in dairy buffalo cows
Mucosal leishmaniasis treatment with aminosidine sulfate: results of two year follow-up
Em 1996 foram avaliados clinicamente 20 dos 21 pacientes com leishmaniose mucosa, tratados em 1994 com sulfato de aminosidine 16mg do sal/kg/dia, intramuscular, por 20 dias. Um paciente foi a óbito por causas não relacionadas com a leishmaniose mucosa. Dos 14 pacientes (66,7% N = 21) que inicialmente alcançaram a remissão completa dos sinais e sintomas durante os três primeiros meses de seguimento, sete (50% N = 14) permaneceram livres de doença por 24 meses e sete pacientes apresentaram recidiva neste perÃodo. O acompanhamento sorológico mostrou pobre correlação com a avaliação clÃnica.In 1996, 20 of 21 patients with mucosal leishmaniasis, treated in 1994 with aminosidine sulfate, 16mg/kg/day salt, by intramuscular injection for 20 days, were clinically evaluated. One patient died due to disease not related to mucosal leishmaniasis. Seven of 14 patients (66,7% N = 21) who achieved complete remission three months after treatment remained clinically cured 24 months later and seven relapsed in the same period (50% N = 14). Sorological follow-up showed poor correlation with the results of clinical examination
Chemodynamical Properties and Ages of Metal-Poor Stars in S-PLUS
Metal-poor stars are key to our understanding of the early stages of chemical
evolution in the Universe. New multi-filter surveys, such as the Southern
Photometric Local Universe Survey (S-PLUS), are greatly advancing our ability
to select low-metallicity stars. In this work, we analyse the chemodynamical
properties and ages of 522 metal-poor candidates selected from the S-PLUS data
release 3. About 92% of these stars were confirmed to be metal-poor ([Fe/H]
) based on previous medium-resolution spectroscopy. We calculated the
dynamical properties of a subsample containing 241 stars, using the astrometry
from Gaia Data Release 3. Stellar ages are estimated by a Bayesian isochronal
method formalized in this work. We analyse the metallicity distribution of
these metal-poor candidates separated into different subgroups of total
velocity, dynamical properties, and ages. Our results are used to propose
further restrictions to optimize the selection of metal-poor candidates in
S-PLUS. The proposed astrometric selection ( mas) is
the one that returns the highest fraction of extremely metal-poor stars (16.3%
have [Fe/H] ); the combined selection provides the highest fraction of
very metal-poor stars (91.0% have [Fe/H] ), whereas the dynamical
selection (eccentricity > 0.35 and diskness < 0.75) is better for targetting
metal-poor (99.5% have [Fe/H] ). Using only S-PLUS photometric
selections, it is possible to achieve selection fractions of 15.6%, 88.5% and
98.3% for metallicities below 3, 2 and 1, respectively. We also show
that it is possible to use S-PLUS to target metal-poor stars in halo
substructures such as Gaia-Sausage/Enceladus, Sequoia, Thamnos and the Helmi

Non-periodized and Daily Undulating Periodized Resistance Training on Blood Pressure of Older Women
The present study aimed at investigating the effects of a daily undulating periodization (DUP) and non-periodized (NP) resistance training programs on hemodynamic parameters of older women. Forty-two older women were randomized into one of the three experimental groups: NP, DUP, and control group (CG). Evaluations of the hemodynamic parameters occurred before, during and after the intervention. The exercise programs were performed twice a week over 22 weeks. NP and DUP groups were based on 3 sets of 8–10 repetitions in 9 exercises. In NP, the two exercise sessions were based on traditional strength training, which was performed at a Difficult intensity according to the rating of perceived exertion (RPE) method. In DUP, the first session was based on power resistance exercise, in which the concentric muscle contraction was performed as fast as possible at a moderate intensity based on RPE, while the second session was the same that was performed by NP. The findings demonstrated that diastolic blood pressure (90.4 vs. 76.2 mmHg) and mean arterial pressure (108.6 vs. 92.7 mmHg) were significantly reduced after NP, while no significant alterations were observed in DUP. Nevertheless, both training groups seem to have a cardio protective effect, since both training modes prevented the increase in HR reported in the experimental period in CG. In conclusion, our findings indicate that a 22-week NP resistance training program causes beneficial effects on hemodynamic parameters of older women.Trial Registration: NCT03443375
Ages and metallicities of stellar clusters using S-PLUS narrow-band integrated photometry: the Small Magellanic Cloud
The Magellanic Clouds are the most massive and closest satellite galaxies of
the Milky Way, with stars covering ages from a few Myr up to 13 Gyr. This makes
them important for validating integrated light methods to study stellar
populations and star-formation processes, which can be applied to more distant
galaxies. We characterized a set of stellar clusters in the Small Magellanic
Cloud (SMC), using the .
This is the first age (metallicity) determination for 11 (65) clusters of this
sample. Through its 7 narrow bands, centered on important spectral features,
and 5 broad bands, we can retrieve detailed information about stellar
populations. We obtained ages and metallicities for all stellar clusters using
the Bayesian spectral energy distribution fitting code .
With a sample of clusters in the color range , for which
our determined parameters are most reliable, we modeled the age-metallicity
relation of SMC. At any given age, the metallicities of SMC clusters are lower
than those of both the Gaia Sausage-Enceladus disrupted dwarf galaxy and the
Milky Way. In comparison with literature values, differences are
log(age) and [Fe/H], which is
comparable to low-resolution spectroscopy of individual stars. Finally, we
confirm a previously known gradient, with younger clusters in the center and
older ones preferentially located in the outermost regions. On the other hand,

The contrast-enhanced Doppler ultrasound with perfluorocarbon exposed sonicated albumin does not improve the diagnosis of renal artery stenosis compared with angiography
There are no studies investigating the effect of the contrast infusion on the sensitivity and specificity of the main Doppler criteria of renal artery stenosis (RAS). Our aim was to evaluate the accuracy of these Doppler criteria prior to and following the intravenous administration of perfluorocarbon exposed sonicated albumin (PESDA) in patients suspected of having RAS. Thirty consecutive hypertensive patients (13 males, mean age of 57 ± 10 years) suspected of having RAS by clinical clues, were submitted to ultrasonography (US) of renal arteries before and after enhancement using continuous infusion of PESDA. All patients underwent angiography, and haemodynamically significant RAS was considered when ≥50%. At angiography, it was detected RAS ≥50% in 18 patients, 5 with bilateral stenosis. After contrast, the examination time was slightly reduced by approximately 20%. In non-enhanced US the sensitivity was better when based on resistance index (82.9%) while the specificity was better when based on renal aortic ratio (89.2%). The predictive positive value was stable for all indexes (74.0%–88.0%) while negative predictive value was low (44%–51%). The specificity and positive predictive value based on renal aortic ratio increased after PESDA injection respectively, from 89 to 97.3% and from 88 to 95%. In hypertensives suspected to have RAS the sensitivity and specificity of Duplex US is dependent of the criterion evaluated. Enhancement with continuous infusion of PESDA improves only the specificity based on renal aortic ratio but do not modify the sensitivity of any index
