    Dense matter with eXTP

In this White Paper we present the potential of the Enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for determining the nature of dense matter; neutron star cores host an extreme density regime which cannot be replicated in a terrestrial laboratory. The tightest statistical constraints on the dense matter equation of state will come from pulse profile modelling of accretion-powered pulsars, burst oscillation sources, and rotation-powered pulsars. Additional constraints will derive from spin measurements, burst spectra, and properties of the accretion flows in the vicinity of the neutron star. Under development by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Science, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s.Comment: Accepted for publication on Sci. BACKGROUND Rapid Advice Guidelines (RAG) provide decision makers with guidance to respond to public health emergencies by developing evidence-based recommendations in a short period of time with a scientific and standardized approach. However, the experience from the development process of a RAG has so far not been systematically summarized. Therefore, our working group will take the experience of the development of the RAG for children with COVID-19 as an example to systematically explore the methodology, advantages, and challenges in the development of the RAG. We shall propose suggestions and reflections for future research, in order to provide a more detailed reference for future development of RAGs. RESULT The development of the RAG by a group of 67 researchers from 11 countries took 50 days from the official commencement of the work (January 28, 2020) to submission (March 17, 2020). A total of 21 meetings were held with a total duration of 48 h (average 2.3 h per meeting) and an average of 16.5 participants attending. Only two of the ten recommendations were fully supported by direct evidence for COVID-19, three recommendations were supported by indirect evidence only, and the proportion of COVID-19 studies among the body of evidence in the remaining five recommendations ranged between 10 and 83%. Six of the ten recommendations used COVID-19 preprints as evidence support, and up to 50% of the studies with direct evidence on COVID-19 were preprints. CONCLUSIONS In order to respond to public health emergencies, the development of RAG also requires a clear and transparent formulation process, usually using a large amount of indirect and non-peer-reviewed evidence to support the formation of recommendations. Strict following of the WHO RAG handbook does not only enhance the transparency and clarity of the guideline, but also can speed up the guideline development process, thereby saving time and labor costs

Régularisation spatiale de représentations distribuées de mots

    Get PDF

Expression and Application of Visual Communication Elements in Graphic Design under the Background of Internet+

In this paper, HOG features are used to describe positive and negative sample images, and visual communication elements are extracted by distinguishable mean shift algorithm, and the visual communication elements finally obtained can represent the characteristics of this category and also have a good differentiation to other categories. On the basis of visual communication elements, the set generator, relationship-based discriminator and wireframe rendering discriminator are used to construct the layout generation model of visual communication elements, and the graphic design based on the generation model is empirically analyzed by means of experimental simulation analysis. The results show that after the number of iterations reaches 10,000, the fluctuation range of the generator loss value (0.237~0.154) is very unstable, indicating that the effect of the graphic design based on the generative model has a small real difference with the original image. The change of the discriminator loss value shows a trend of increasing and then decreasing, and its maximum and minimum values are 0.954 and 0.487, respectively, indicating that the input data is not trained in place, and the simple planar design, which is more biased, leads to the effect of the discriminator is not obvious. By reducing the manual operation in the design process, saving the designer’s drawing performance time, and promoting healthy development of graphic design, this study is significant

In this paper, Harris operator and DoG operator are used to extract visual features from images to ensure that a large number of useful feature points can be extracted in regions with little texture information. After determining the five main visual variables, virtual reality technology is used to conduct a preliminary exploration of the effect of visual variable perception in a three-dimensional model environment and to construct a mapping model of multiple visual variables. Combining the hardware and the visual variable mapping model, the design of the visual aesthetic element visualization system based on VR technology is completed, and the multiple visual variable mapping model is empirically analyzed using simulation analysis. The results show that the average accuracy of the qualitative test is as high as 65.73%, and the average time is as low as 7.02s, indicating that the visualization effect of the multiple visual variable model is obvious and alleviates the inadequacy of the ineffective color visualization scheme to a certain extent. This study analyzes the types and characteristics of visual aesthetic elements in the design industry and then proposes strategies for constructing visual aesthetic elements in graphic design to promote the sustainable development of the design industry

Hybrid Pre-Log and Post-Log Image Reconstruction for Computed Tomography

    No full text
Tomographic image reconstruction for low-dose computed tomography (CT) is increasingly challenging as dose continues to reduce in clinical applications. Pre-log domain methods and post-log domain methods have been proposed individually and each method has its own disadvantage. While having the potential to improve image quality for low-dose data by using an accurate imaging model, pre-log domain methods suffer slow convergence in practice due to the nonlinear transformation from the image to measurements. In contrast, post-log domain methods have fast convergence speed but the resulting image quality is suboptimal for low dose CT data because the log transformation is extremely unreliable for low-count measurements and undefined for negative values. This paper proposes a hybrid method that integrates the pre-log model and post-log model together to overcome the disadvantages of individual pre-log and post-log methods. We divide a set of CT data into high-count and low-count regions. The post-log weighted least squares model is used for measurements in the high-count region and the pre-log shifted Poisson model for measurements in the low-count region. The hybrid likelihood function can be optimized using an existing iterative algorithm. Computer simulations and phantom experiments show that the proposed hybrid method can achieve faster early convergence than the pre-log shifted Poisson likelihood method and better signal-to-noise performance than the post-log weighted least squares method

PMMA Sandwiched Bi2Te3 Layer as a Saturable Absorber in Mode-Locked Fiber Laser

    No full text
In this paper, we fabricated a PMMA sandwiched Bi2Te3 self-assembly layer as a saturable absorber device, which was used as a passive mode locker for ultrafast pulse generation at the telecommunication band. Nanosheets of Bi2Te3 as a bulk topological insulator were successfully synthesized through a solvothermal treatment and self-assemble method to form a thin film at a water-air interface. In order to transfer the Bi2Te3 self-assembly layer to the optical fiber end, we design a construction of two PMMA layers sandwiched self-assembly layer. By incorporating this saturable absorber into an erbium-doped fiber laser, femtosecond mode-locking operation was experimentally demonstrated. The output pulse width is about 505 fs. Our results indicate that PMMA sandwiched topological insulator layer structure could be an improvement technology in traditional PMMA transfer method and could be used as a long-term stable saturable absorber for the passively mode locking lasers
