Clean Label Disentangling for Medical Image Segmentation with Noisy Labels

Current methods focusing on medical image segmentation suffer from incorrect annotations, which is known as the noisy label issue. Most medical image segmentation with noisy labels methods utilize either noise transition matrix, noise-robust loss functions or pseudo-labeling methods, while none of the current research focuses on clean label disentanglement. We argue that the main reason is that the severe class-imbalanced issue will lead to the inaccuracy of the selected ``clean'' labels, thus influencing the robustness of the model against the noises. In this work, we come up with a simple but efficient class-balanced sampling strategy to tackle the class-imbalanced problem, which enables our newly proposed clean label disentangling framework to successfully select clean labels from the given label sets and encourages the model to learn from the correct annotations. However, such a method will filter out too many annotations which may also contain useful information. Therefore, we further extend our clean label disentangling framework to a new noisy feature-aided clean label disentangling framework, which takes the full annotations into utilization to learn more semantics. Extensive experiments have validated the effectiveness of our methods, where our methods achieve new state-of-the-art performance. AbstractAt present, most of the OCR recognizing through individual character, thus the quality of character segmentation is the key point to affect the quality of OCR recognition system. This paper introduces the formula of projective method in analysis of preliminary segmentation for images. Moreover it applied analysis for connected spatial domain, the correct results shows that writing image well matched. After two analyses and segmentation, characters can be segmented correctly. In order to provide useful solutions to these two problems that characters keying must be performed rapidly and documents digitizing can be conserved for a long time. Therefore, we must place emphasis on the research and development of the character segmentation

Cardiospecific Overexpression of ATPGD1 (Carnosine Synthase) Increases Histidine Dipeptide Levels and Prevents Myocardial Ischemia Reperfusion Injury

Background: Myocardial ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury is associated with complex pathophysiological changes characterized by pH imbalance, the accumulation of lipid peroxidation products acrolein and 4-hydroxy trans-2-nonenal, and the depletion of ATP levels. Cardioprotective interventions, designed to address individual mediators of I/R injury, have shown limited efficacy. The recently identified enzyme ATPGD1 (Carnosine Synthase), which synthesizes histidyl dipeptides such as carnosine, has the potential to counteract multiple effectors of I/R injury by buffering intracellular pH and quenching lipid peroxidation products and may protect against I/R injury. Methods and Results: We report here that β-alanine and carnosine feeding enhanced myocardial carnosine levels and protected the heart against I/R injury. Cardiospecific overexpression of ATPGD1 increased myocardial histidyl dipeptides levels and protected the heart from I/R injury. Isolated cardiac myocytes from ATPGD1-transgenic hearts were protected against hypoxia reoxygenation injury. The overexpression of ATPGD1 prevented the accumulation of acrolein and 4-hydroxy trans-2-nonenal-protein adducts in ischemic hearts and delayed acrolein or 4-hydroxy trans-2-nonenal-induced hypercontracture in isolated cardiac myocytes. Changes in the levels of ATP, high-energy phosphates, intracellular pH, and glycolysis during low-flow ischemia in the wild-type mice hearts were attenuated in the ATPGD1-transgenic hearts. Two natural dipeptide analogs (anserine and balenine) that can either quench aldehydes or buffer intracellular pH, but not both, failed to protect against I/R injury. Conclusions: Either exogenous administration or enhanced endogenous formation of histidyl dipeptides prevents I/R injury by attenuating changes in intracellular pH and preventing the accumulation of lipid peroxidation derived aldehydes

Competitive analysis of online inventory problem with interrelated prices

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the online inventory problem with interrelated prices in which a decision of when and how much to replenish must be made in an online fashion even without concrete knowledge of future prices. Four new online models with different price correlations are proposed in this paper, which are the linear-decrease model, the log-decrease model, the logarithmic model and the exponential model. For the first two models, the online algorithms are developed, and as the performance measure of online algorithm, the upper and lower bounds of competitive ratios of the algorithms are derived respectively. For the exponential and logarithmic models, the online algorithms are proposed by the solution of linear programming and the corresponding competitive ratios are analyzed, respectively. Additionally, the algorithm designed for the exponential model is optimal, and the algorithm for the logarithmic model is optimal only under some certain conditions. Moreover, some numerical examples illustrate that the algorithms based on the dprice-conservative strategy are more suitable when the purchase price fluctuates relatively flat

Photoplethysmography-Based Machine Learning Approaches for Atrial Fibrillation Prediction:A Report From the Huawei Heart Study

BACKGROUND: Current wearable devices enable the detection of atrial fibrillation (AF), but a machine learning (ML)–based approach may facilitate accurate prediction of AF onset. OBJECTIVES: The present study aimed to develop, optimize, and validate an ML-based model for real-time prediction of AF onset in a population at high risk of incident AF. METHODS: A primary ML-based prediction model of AF onset (M1) was developed on the basis of the Huawei Heart Study, a general-population AF screening study using photoplethysmography (PPG)–based smart devices. After optimization in 554 individuals with 469,267 PPG data sets, the optimized ML-based model (M2) was further prospectively validated in 50 individuals with paroxysmal AF at high risk of AF onset, and compared with 72-hour Holter electrocardiographic (ECG) monitoring, a criterion standard, from September 1, 2019, to November 5, 2019. RESULTS: Among 50 patients with paroxysmal AF (mean age 67 ± 12 years, 40% women), there were 2,808 AF events from a total of 14,847,356 ECGs over 72 hours and 6,860 PPGs (45.83 ± 13.9 per subject per day). The best performance of M1 for AF onset prediction was achieved 4 hours before AF onset (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve: 0.94; 95% confidence interval: 0.93-0.94). M2 sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy (at 0 to 4 hours before AF onset) were 81.9%, 96.6%, 96.4%, 83.1%, and 88.9%, respectively, compared with 72-hour Holter ECG. CONCLUSIONS: The PPG- based ML model demonstrated good ability for AF prediction in advance. Critical role of plasminogen activator inhibi- tor-1 in cholestatic liver injury and fibrosis

ABSTRACT Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) is an acute phase protein known to correlate with hepatic fibrosis. However, whether or not PAI-1 plays a causal role in this disease process had not been directly tested. Therefore, wild-type or PAI-1 knockout (PAI-1 Ϫ/Ϫ ) mice underwent bile duct ligation. Mice were sacrificed either 3 or 14 days after surgery for assessment of early (i.e., inflammation) and late (i.e., fibrosis) changes caused by bile duct ligation. Liver injury was determined by histopathology and plasma enzymes. Accumulation of extracellular matrix was evaluated by Sirius red staining and by measuring hydroxyproline content. Hepatic expression of PAI-1 was increased ϳ9-fold by bile duct ligation in wild-type mice. Furthermore, early liver injury and inflammation due to bile duct ligation was significantly blunted in PAI-1 Ϫ/Ϫ mice in comparison with wild-type mice. Although PAI-1 Ϫ/Ϫ mice were significantly protected against the accumulation of extracellular matrix caused by bile duct ligation, increases in expression of indices of stellate cell activation and collagen synthesis caused by bile duct ligation were not attenuated. Protection did, however, correlate with an elevation in hepatic activities of plasminogen activator and matrix metalloprotease activities. In contrast, the increase in tissue inhibitor of metalloproteases-1 protein, a major inhibitor of matrix metalloproteases, caused by bile duct ligation was not altered in PAI-1 Ϫ/Ϫ mice compared with the wild-type strain. The increase in hepatic activity of urokinase-type plasminogen activator was also accompanied by more activation of the hepatocyte growth factor receptor c-Met. Taken together, these data suggest that PAI-1 plays a causal role in mediating fibrosis during cholestasis

Competitive algorithms for unbounded one-way trading

In the one-way trading problem, a seller has L units of product to be sold to a sequence σ of buyers u1,u2,…,uσu1,u2,…,uσ arriving online and he needs to decide, for each ui, the amount of product to be sold to ui at the then-prevailing market price pi. The objective is to maximize the seller's revenue. We note that all previous algorithms for the problem need to impose some artificial upper bound M and lower bound m on the market prices, and the seller needs to know either the values of M and m , or their ratio M/mM/m, at the outset....[cont'd

    Get PDF
Objective: The number of people infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in China has increased in recent years. HIV screening for pregnant women was performed in a remote area in Xinjiang, as an effort to promote universal HIV screening in pregnant women and to help prevention of mother-to-child transmission. Methods: Pregnant women in Burqin and Jeminay Counties in Xinjiang were offered free voluntary HIV screening. Local mid-level medical workers were trained to use Determine® HIV-1/2 kit for HIV screening. All the tested pregnant women signed a consent form, received HIV education material, and participated in an HIV knowledge survey. Results: All the 890 pregnant women receiving HIV test had negative result. Among these women, 67.6% were Kazakh and 40.9% were farmers. Survey of HIV knowledge showed that these women's awareness about mother-to-child transmission was limited. The levels of HIV knowledge were related with ethnic background, age, education and profession of the pregnant women. Conclusion: The results suggested that HIV infection had not become a significant problem among the pregnant women in this remote area of Xinjiang, but continued efforts to improve the awareness of HIV, especially the knowledge about mother-to-child transmission of HIV, in pregnant women were needed

8 páginas.- 4 figuras.- 57 referencias.- Supplementary information The online version contains supplementary material available at https://doi.org/10.1038/s43247-022-00523-5Forest soils contain a large amount of organic carbon and contribute to terrestrial carbon sequestration. However, we still have a poor understanding of what nutrients limit soil microbial metabolism that drives soil carbon release across the range of boreal to tropical forests. Here we used ecoenzymatic stoichiometry methods to investigate the patterns of microbial nutrient limitations within soil profiles (organic, eluvial and parent material horizons) across 181 forest sites throughout China. Results show that, in 80% of these forests, soil microbes were limited by phosphorus availability. Microbial phosphorus limitation increased with soil depth and from boreal to tropical forests as ecosystems become wetter, warmer, more productive, and is affected by anthropogenic nitrogen deposition. We also observed an unexpected shift in the latitudinal pattern of microbial phosphorus limitation with the lowest phosphorus limitation in the warm temperate zone (41-42 degrees N). Our study highlights the importance of soil phosphorus limitation to restoring forests and predicting their carbon sinks. Phosphorus limitation of soil microbial communities in forests is widespread, increases with soil depth, and is enhanced under wetter and warmer climates and elevated anthropogenic nitrogen deposition, according to ecoenzymatic stoichiometric analyses across 181 forests in China. This study was financially supported by the Strategic Priority Research Program of Chinese Academy of Sciences (XDB40000000), Funds for International Cooperation and Exchange of National Natural Science Foundation of China (32061123007), National Natural Science Foundation of China (41977031), Program of State Key Laboratory of Loess and Quaternary Geology CAS (SKLLQGZR1803).
