Practitioner views on safeguarding supervision
This study explores the views of community nurses and their perceptions of safeguarding supervision. Thirty-seven front-line nurses from a community Foundation Trust completed an online survey tool âQualtricsâ. Ethics approval was granted from both the Trust, Health Research Authority and the University. Results showed that the model of safeguarding supervision was not important in the process, the preferred mode was a combination of one to one and group. The factors perceived as most important were feeling safe/safe environment, experienced practitioner and critical reflection. The âqualitiesâ of the supervisor deemed most important was prior training in supervision skills, leadership skills were not deemed as important. Most felt that the supervisor should be from the same professional background.

BACK TO KINSHIP III: A GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Back to Kinship III is the third Special Issue of the e-journal, Structure and Dynamics sponsored by the group, Kinship Circle. Each issue is dedicated to current kinship research. There are 5 articles in this Special Issue, covering a wide range of kinship research questions and topics The first two articles, by William Young and Warren Shapiro, respectively, employ ethnographic evidence as the reason for revising previous kinship ideas. The next two articles, by Robert Parkin and Dwight Read, respectively, focus on kinship terminology and revisit theoretical issues. The last article, by Alain Matthey de lâEtang, discusses theorizing by Dwight Read challenging the âreceived viewâ of kin terms being derived through a genealogical framework and proposing, in its place, that kin terms are structurally organized through a generative logic for the terminolog
The impact of liberal arts education on Egyptian student identity and worldview: a study of the core curriculum of the American University in Cairo
Liberal Arts Education advocates an enquiry about life at its very fundamental level. In contrast to other forms of higher education, it decidedly delves into the complicated task of engaging with student ontological, epistemological, and axiological foundations. Its mandate - and its promise - is to educate the formation of student identities and worldviews. For Egypt and the Middle East, where the study of humanities is in deep crisis, Liberal Arts Education programs present valuable initiatives to challenge the stagnant status quo and offer to students zones of freedom of thought and expression. It thus becomes imperative to ask: to what extent and in which forms do these programs really impact student identities and worldviews? As such, this thesis investigates the impact of the core curriculum of the American University in Cairo, as a Liberal Arts Education model, on two essential constructs: student identity and student worldview. The central research question is: how does the core curriculum of AUC impact student identity and worldview? In its attempt to answer this question, the research treats the core curriculum, not as rigid content, but as a dynamic platform across which administrators, faculty and students interact. The research employs four data collection techniques: document analysis, faculty interviews, student survey and student focus groups. While the documents and the faculty interviews shed lights on the historical, structural, and implementation aspects of the core curriculum, the student survey and focus groups reveal student perceptions of the program and of its impact on their identities and worldviews. Whereas the research affirmed overall institutional commitment to the values of liberal arts education as well as student belief in its potential, it exposed a gap between the theoretical potential of the program and its actual impact on students. According to the students, faculty readiness is an essential factor to account for this gap. The research opens the door for further questions about what is needed for the program to fulfill its full potential. Also, an identity and worldview instrument is worth producing
Supervision on the frontline
This review is an update on Bothamâs (2013) review of clinical supervision in child protection but with two clear differences: the focus of this paper is primarily on safeguarding supervision and explores the views of frontline nurses only. The aim was to explore what factors contribute to effective safeguarding supervision. A systemised approach was used, collating the findings from eleven papers from January 2000 to January 2019 brought together in a thematic synthesis. This paper analysis suggests that there are factors deemed helpful and unhelpful in the safeguarding supervision process which can also be applied to the supervisory relationship. However, given some of the methodological limitations of the research reviewed one needs to be cautious in drawing conclusions from the current research. This review concludes that there is a need for more evidence in this area to see what makes safeguarding supervision effective. Furthermore, it is also important that research begins to establish whether safeguarding supervision does help in achieving better outcomes for children in keeping them safe
