Exploring Inclusive Design and Digital Humanities: Enabling Bilingual Digital Narratives for Deaf Children

The collaboration between designers and digital humanists has indeed gained increasing significance in crafting effective projects, with design serving as a centralizing force in the realm of digital humanities by establishing interfaces for individuals to engage with technological resources. Therefore, design's methodological practices, encompassing various research and experiential facets, play a pivotal role in enhancing the usability and accessibility of digital resources within the social sphere. This study aims to expand the discourse on the characteristics and potential of the interplay between inclusive design and digital humanities practices, with a specific focus on the development of bilingual digital narratives (utilizing Brazilian Sign Language and Portuguese). The research adopts a collaborative, qualitative approach, encompassing processes of evaluation, validation, and enhancement. Digital visual narratives are presented as a facilitating tool for integrating LIBRAS and Portuguese, thereby aiding in language acquisition for deaf children. The article contributes to the discussion of the humanistic approach to design, emphasizing the values of empathy, ethics, and social responsibility in the creation of inclusive and accessible projects

A primeira estuda a tecnologia existente sobre orientação a objetos e linguagens de programação. São analisados os mecanismos presentes nas linguagens orientadas a objeto e os objetivos destes mecanismos. Alguns problemas com o paradigma são considerados, apresentando as possíveis soluções, quando existirem. The physics of the violin

Neste artigo apresentamos uma descrição geral da física do violino, analisando os conceitos que lhes dão sustentação física e que revelam toda a riqueza e o potencial pedagógico do assunto. Destacamos as contribuições de físicos como Helmholtz, Savart, Raman e Saunders no esforço para descrever a vibração produzida pelo arco nas cordas, e por compreender as propriedades acústicas do instrumento. Descrevemos a função de cada uma das componentes do instrumento e discutimos a importância dos modos normais de vibração dos tampos e do cavalete na resposta acústica do violino. A ressonância acústica da caixa do violino (ressonância de Helmholtz) será discutida fazendo-se um paralelo entre osciladores mecânico, elétrico e acústico. Discutiremos a resposta acústica do violino e descreveremos a produção de seu som caraterístico, que resulta da forma de onda originada pela excitação das cordas pelo arco, influenciada pelas vibrações e ressonâncias do corpo do violino, seus tampos e o cavalete.In this work we present a general description of the physics of the violin. We examine the concepts which provide the physical support and reveal the richness and the pedagogical potential of the subject. We remark the contributions of physicists such as Helmholtz, Savart, Raman and Saunders to the undesrtanding of the way in which a bowed string vibrates, and the comprehension of the acoustical properties of the instrument. The role of each component of the violin is described in details. We also discuss the importance of the bridge, the plates and the body normal modes of vibration for the acoustical response of the instrument. The air-resonance of the enclosed air in the violin body (Helmholtz resonance) is disscussed using the equivalent fomalism between mechanical, electrical and acoustic oscillating systems. The production of the characteristic sound of the violin, which results from the vibrational waveform of a bowed string, is also described

Measuring valley polarization in two-dimensional materials with second-harmonic spectroscopy

A population imbalance at different valleys of an electronic system lowers its effective rotational symmetry. We introduce a technique to measure such imbalance - a valley polarization - that exploits the unique fingerprints of this symmetry reduction in the polarization-dependent second-harmonic generation (SHG). We present the principle and detection scheme in the context of hexagonal two-dimensional crystals, which include graphene-based systems and the family of transition metal dichalcogenides, and provide a direct experimental demonstration using a 2H-MoSe$_{2}$ monolayer at room temperature. We deliberately use the simplest possible setup, where a single pulsed laser beam simultaneously controls the valley imbalance and tracks the SHG process. We further developed a model of the transient population dynamics which analytically describes the valley-induced SHG rotation in very good agreement with the experiment. In addition to providing the first experimental demonstration of the effect, this work establishes a conceptually simple, com-pact and transferable way of measuring instantaneous valley polarization, with direct applicability in the nascent field of valleytronics

A Tutela Inibitória Como Instrumento de Proteção dos Direitos da Personalidade

This article aims to analyze the use of inhibitory tutelage as of personal rights protection instrument, identifying the main points of this procedural institute. Will be to list, in focus, the principles embodied in the Constitution, the Civil Code, the Civil Procedure Code of 1973 and the corresponding provisions in the NCPC (Law No. 13,105/2015), covering the topic at hand. So from the case studies, legislation, Homeland jurisprudence, the specialist doctrine and publications in journals, the collision between fundamental rights will be observed, namely, the rights to the image, honor, private life and intimacy, freedom of expression and the rights of access to culture and information in order to be seen, based on the principle of human dignity, legality and effectiveness of tutelage under discussion for assurance and prevention of personal rights in the contemporary world.Este artigo visa à análise da utilização da tutela inibitória como instrumento de proteção dos direitos da personalidade, identificando as nuances deste instituto processual. Elencar-se-ão, em foco, os preceitos consubstanciados na Constituição Federal, no Código Civil, no Código de Processo Civil de 1973 e os preceitos correspondentes no NCPC (Lei nº 13.105/2015), que abarcam o tema em pauta. Assim, a partir do estudo de casos concretos, da legislação, da jurisprudência pátria, da doutrina especializada, e de publicações em periódicos, será verificada a colisão entre direitos fundamentais, quais sejam, os direitos à imagem, à honra, à privacidade e à intimidade, a liberdade de expressão e os direitos de acesso à cultura e à informação, a fim de se constatar, com base no princípio da dignidade da pessoa humana, a legalidade e efetividade da tutela em comento para garantia e prevenção de direitos personalíssimos na contemporaneidade

Integrative taxonomy reveals disjunct distribution and first record of Hoplias misionera (Characiformes: Erythrinidae) in the Amazon River basin: morphological, DNA barcoding and cytogenetic considerations

The Hoplias malabaricus group encompasses six valid species and still is believed toharbors cryptic diversity. In this work, an integrative approach including morphological,DNA barcoding, and cytogenetic considerations was conducted to characterize a populationof H. malabaricus from the Amazon basin that was recently allocated in the samemitochondrial lineage with H. misionera, a species originally described to La Plata basin.The DNA barcoding analysis revealed that the Amazon population nested together with H.misionera specimens from the La Plata basin (BIN AAB1732) in the same cluster. Theintragroup distance (0.5%) was 12 times lower than the nearest neighbor (6.0%) distance.The morphometric analysis demonstrated slightly variation between Amazon and La Platapopulations, being the former composed by larger specimens. Further morphological datasupported the molecular evidence of H. misionera inhabiting Amazon basin. The karyotypecharacterization of H. misionera in the Amazon population showed 2n=40 and karyotypicformulae 20m+20sm, that added to C-banding, Ag-NOR and 18S results are suggestive ofthe similarity to karyomorph C of H. malabaricus. This work reveals the first record of H.misionera outside of La Plata basin and expands the species distribution for 2500 Kmnorthward until the Marajó Island, estuary of Amazonas River.Keywords: Amazon basin, COI, Cryptic diversity, Karyotype, TrahiraO grupo Hoplias malabaricus compreende seis espécies válidas e ainda acreditase que abriga diversidade críptica. Neste trabalho, uma abordagem integrativa incluindo considerações morfológicas, de DNA barcoding e de citogenética foi conduzida para caracterizar uma população de H. malabaricus da bacia amazônica que foi recentemente alocada na mesma linhagem mitocondrial de H. misionera, uma espécie originalmente descrita para a bacia La Plata. A análise molecular por DNA barcoding revelou que essa população amazônica forma um clado monofilético com espécimes de H. misionera provenientes da bacia La Plata (BIN AAB1732). A distância genética intragrupo (0,5%) é 12 vezes menor do que para o vizinho mais próximo (6%). A comparação morfométrica demonstrou pequena variação entre as populações amazônica e La Plata, sendo os primeiros ligeiramente maiores. Entretanto, os dados morfológicos corroboram com evidência molecular e confirmam a ocorrência de H. misionera na bacia amazônica. A caracterização cariotípica de H. misionera na população amazônica apresentou 2n=40 e fórmula cariotípica 20m+20sm, que aliada aos resultados de banda C, Ag-NOR e 18S sugerem que seja similar ao cariomorfo C de H. malabaricus. Esse trabalho revela o primeiro registro de H. misionera fora da bacia La Plata e estende a distribuição da espécie por mais de 2500 km ao Norte, até a Ilha do Marajó, estuário do rio Amazonas.Fil: Guimarães, Karen. Mechanical characterization of the green coconut fiber for application in the footwear industry

In the tropical countries, the green coconut water consumption generates a great problem with the fruit \ud final destination. To minimize this problem, it is necessary to find applicability to the residues. In this \ud sense, this study had as its objective to investigate the characteristics of the green coconut fiber, from the \ud fruit disposed in the city of Francisco Morato – Sao Paulo, and to compare them to the characteristics from \ud other natural fibers, to check the viability of application of these fibers in the manufacturing of shoe parts. \ud It was made a biological maceration on the fibers and traction and microscopy tests were run. The results \ud showed that the green coconut fibers have potential related to other natural fibers studied in literature, to \ud be used as reinforcement in the manufacturing of shoe parts and other design product

Atorvastatin and sildenafil decrease vascular TGF-β levels and MMP-2 activity and ameliorate arterial remodeling in a model of renovascular hypertension

AbstractImbalanced matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 activity and transforming growth factor expression (TGF-β) are involved in vascular remodeling of hypertension. Atorvastatin and sildenafil exert antioxidant and pleiotropic effects that may result in cardiovascular protection. We hypothesized that atorvastatin and sildenafil alone or in association exert antiproliferative effects by down-regulating MMP-2 and TGF-β, thus reducing the vascular hypertrophy induced by two kidney, one clip (2K1C) hypertension.Sham and 2K1C rats were treated with oral atorvastatin 50mg/kg, sildenafil 45mg/kg, or both, daily for 8 weeks. Blood pressure was monitored weekly. Morphologic changes in the aortas were studied. TGF-β levels were determined by immunofluorescence. MMP-2 activity and expression were determined by in situ zymography, gel zymography, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence. The effects of both drugs on proliferative responses of aortic smooth muscle cells to PDGF and on on MMP-2 activity in vitro were determined. Atorvastatin, sildenafil, or both drugs exerted antiproliferative effects in vitro. All treatments attenuated 2K1C-induced hypertension and prevented the increases in the aortic cross-sectional area and media/lumen ratio in 2K1C rats. Aortas from 2K1C rats showed higher collagen deposition, TGF-β levels and MMP-2 activity and expression when compared with Sham-operated animals. Treatment with atorvastatin and/or sildenafil was associated with attenuation of 2K1C hypertension-induced increases in these pro-fibrotic factors. However, these drugs had no in vitro effects on hr-MMP-2 activity.Atorvastatin and sildenafil was associated with decreased vascular TGF-β levels and MMP-2 activity in renovascular hypertensive rats, thus ameliorating the vascular remodeling. These novel pleiotropic effects of both drugs may translate into protective effects in patients

Its support is to analyze and apply new methodological practices that facilitate the learning of teachers, applied in education, which favor the development of skills and skills of understanding and logical reasoning as a social object. It is justified by the need for technologies to be shown to be an important ally of socialization and education in the new generations. This article aims to develop the learning teaching process through elements that were reflected and discussed about the importance of the curriculum for the formation of new technological methodologies, creating favorable conditions for the learning teaching process, analyzing the various profiles of the student in his/her individuality, their need, observing the connection of the educational approaches followed by technologies and curricula.
