    Gender and Far Right Extremism

    Get PDF
In the media and within the literature, far right extremism has been noted as being hypermasculine in character. Yet, the framing of these movements as being male dominated, though accurate, obscures the roles that women play within these spaces. This study furthers the academic understanding of the phenomenon by presenting a comprehensive examination of the role of gender within far right extremism as a political ideology and within far right extremist groups. Gendered differences are found in the actual support for these movements and in the motivating psychological factors behind such support. Gendered differences are also present in the roles that men and women perform within these groups, with women functioning as violent actors, thinkers, facilitators, promoters, activists, and exemplars, but being unable to access leadership positions within far right extremist groups

Optimal Fuzzy Controller Design for Autonomous Robot Path Tracking Using Population-Based Metaheuristics

This researchwas funded by projects TecNM-5654.19-P and DemocratAI PID2020-115570GB-C22.In this work, we propose, through the use of population-based metaheuristics, an optimization method that solves the problem of autonomous path tracking using a rear-wheel fuzzy logic controller. This approach enables the design of controllers using rules that are linguistically familiar to human users. Moreover, a new technique that uses three different paths to validate the performance of each candidate configuration is presented. We extend on our previous work by adding two more membership functions to the previous fuzzy model, intending to have a finer-grained adjustment. We tuned the controller using several well-known metaheuristic methods, Genetic Algorithms (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), GreyWolf Optimizer (GWO), Harmony Search (HS), and the recent Aquila Optimizer (AO) and Arithmetic Optimization Algorithms. Experiments validate that, compared to published results, the proposed fuzzy controllers have better RMSE-measured performance. Nevertheless, experiments also highlight problems with the common practice of evaluating the performance of fuzzy controllers with a single problem case and performance metric, resulting in controllers that tend to be overtrained.TecNM-5654.19-PDemocratAI PID2020-115570GB-C2

Intra-family links in the analysis of marital networks

Marriage networks, which represent the matrimonial connections between different families in a given historical and geographical milieu, rarely take into account one aspect of internal family dynamics, namely the existence of intra-family marriages. The inclusion of such marriages, represented in the graph by self-loops, is essential in order to compute more accurate measures of centrality. In this paper, we discuss various procedures for incorporating these links into the analysis, with the requirement that they be compatible with the use of already available social network analysis software. We then apply them to two historical marriage networks, one from the Republic of Venice and the other from Taiwan. By comparing centrality measures for the baseline and modified networks, we found that the most satisfactory of the proposed methods is the one that duplicates nodes of families with intra-family marriages and adds new edges that link these duplicated nodes to all the families to which the original node was connected. This procedure is computationally simple and conceptually sound, making it a useful tool for analysing marital networks.PID2020-115570GB-C22 (DemocratAI::UGR) Acceso abierto financiado por Universidad de Granada/CBU

Impact of Evictions and Tourist Apartments on the Residential Rental Market in Spain

    Get PDF
In recent decades, the analysis of residential rental prices in Spain has gained increasing attention. From a socio-economic viewpoint, the increase in long-term rentals compared to new home purchases by the new generations has led researchers to examine phenomena such as the growth of the tourism sector or foreclosures. This paper uses a panel data model to analyze the influence of the rate of foreclosure evictions and number of tourist apartments on residential rental prices in 50 provinces of Spain for the period 2015-2018. The results show that an increase in the number of tourist apartment vacancies increases residential rental prices, while an increase in the rate of foreclosure evictions causes residential rental prices to fall. This work was conducted within the framework of a research project FQM-150 and financed by Andalusia Government

The Impact of Employment Quality and Housing Quality on Human Development in the European Union

    Get PDF
This study aims to contribute new information on how and through which factors employment quality and housing quality can be improved from a human development approach so that people can live the life they want. Using the human capabilities approach as a theoretical reference framework, the article analyses the effect of involuntary part-time employment and overcrowded housing on the Human Development Index (HDI). The empirical analysis is based on the panel data technique, which is applied to data from the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the 28 member countries of the European Union. The results shed new evidence on how involuntary part-time work and overcrowded housing limit or hinder people from living the lives they want, at least in the dimensions measured by the HDI.Junta de Andalucí

Juegos de rol para design thinking en enseñanza basada en proyecto

    Get PDF
