    Consenso mexicano sobre detección y tratamiento del cáncer gástrico incipiente

    El cáncer gástrico representa una de las neoplasias más frecuentes en el aparato digestivo y en la mayoría de los casos es el resultado de la progresión de lesiones premalignas. La detección oportuna de estas lesiones es relevante ya que un tratamiento oportuno brinda la posibilidad de curación. En nuestro país no existía un consenso respecto a la detección temprana del cáncer gástrico, por lo que la Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología reunió aun grupo de expertos y realizó el Consenso sobre detección y tratamiento del cáncer gástricoincipiente (CGI) para establecer recomendaciones de utilidad para la comunidad médica. Eneste consenso se utilizó la metodología Delphi y se emitieron 38 recomendaciones al respectodel CGI. El consenso define el CGI como aquel que al momento del diagnóstico se encuentralimitado a la mucosa y a la submucosa, independientemente de metástasis en ganglios linfáticos.En México, como otras partes del mundo, los factores asociados al CGI incluyen la infección porHelicobacter pylori, los antecedentes familiares, el tabaquismo y los factores dietéticos. Para eldiagnóstico se recomienda utilizar cromoendoscopia, magnificación y equipos con luz mejorada.Un diagnóstico histopatológico preciso es invaluable para tomar de decisiones terapéuticas. Eltratamiento endoscópico del CGI, ya sea disección o resección de la mucosa, debe ser preferidoal manejo quirúrgico cuando se puedan obtener resultados semejantes en términos de curaciónoncológica.     CattleTickBase: An integrated Internet-based bioinformatics resource for Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus

    The Rhipicephalus microplus genome is large and complex in structure, making it difficult to assemble a genome sequence and costly to resource the required bioinformatics. In light of this, a consortium of international collaborators was formed to pool resources to begin sequencing this genome. We have acquired and assembled genomic DNA into contigs that represent over 1.8 Gigabase pairs of DNA from gene-enriched regions of the R. microplus genome. We also have several datasets containing transcript sequences from a number of gene expression experiments conducted by the consortium. A web-based resource was developed to enable the scientific community to access our datasets and conduct analysis through a web-based bioinformatics environment called YABI. The collective bioinformatics resource is termed CattleTickBase. Our consortium has acquired genomic and transcriptomic sequence data at approximately 0.9X coverage of the gene-coding regions of the R. microplus genome. The YABI tool will facilitate access and manipulation of cattle tick genome sequence data as the genome sequencing of R. microplus proceeds. During this process the CattleTickBase resource will continue to be updated

    The cattle fever tick, Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus is one of the most significant medical veterinary pests in the world, vectoring several serious livestock diseases negatively impacting agricultural economies of tropical and subtropical countries around the world. In our study, we assembled the complete R. microplus mitochondrial genome from Illumina and Pac Bio sequencing reads obtained from the ongoing R. microplus (Deutsch strain from Texas, USA) genome sequencing project. We compared the Deutsch strain mitogenome to the mitogenome from a Brazilian R. microplus and from an Australian cattle tick that has recently been taxonomically designated as Rhipicephalus australis after previously being considered R. microplus. The sequence divergence of the Texas and Australia ticks is much higher than the divergence between the Texas and Brazil ticks. This is consistent with the idea that the Australian ticks are distinct from the R. microplus of the Americas

    Simplified approach to the prediction and analysis of temperature inhomogeneity in rapid compression machines

    Substantial progress has been made in understanding and reducing temperature inhomogeneity in rapid compression machines (RCMs) with the help of computational modeling. To date, however, it has not been possible to investigate and map the full range of possible RCM designs, working gases, and, operating conditions. In this work,, we present a framework which simplifies the task of comprehensive and general RCM performance prediction. A set of thermophysical and geometrical parameters has been defined to characterize the design and operating conditions of a general RCM. Dimensional analysis was applied to reduce the number of variables, and a sensitivity analysis, based on computational simulations, was used to rank the dimensionless parameters and eliminate unimportant-ones. The results of this analysis show that Reynolds number,, Prandtl number, aspect ratio,: and crevice volume ratio are the most important parameters determining temperature inhomogeneity. A further set of computational simulations was conducted to predict postcompression temperature inhomogeneity over the full range of RCM design and operating parameters. These results are well-represented by a simple power-law equation that correlates a dimensionless temperature inhomogenity parameter (mass-averaged over the main chamber) as a function of postcompression time with just three parameters-Peclet number (the product of Reynolds and, Prandtl numbers), aspect ratio, and crevice volume ratio. This equation-can serve as a simple and general tool for RCM designers and users who wish to determine optimal configurations that minimize temperature inhomogeneity for combustion experiments.S.Y. is supported by an NUI Galway College of Engineering and Informatics Scholarship and the NUI Galway Millennium Fund for Research.
