Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPM) as novel photodetectors for PET

Next generation PET scanners should fulfill very high requirements in terms of spatial, energy and timing resolution. Modern scanner performances are inherently limited by the use of standard photomultiplier tubes. The use of Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) is proposed for the construction of a 4D-PET module of 4.8×4.8 cm2 aimed to replace the standard PMT based PET block detector. The module will be based on a LYSO continuous crystal read on two faces by Silicon Photomultipliers. A high granularity detection surface made by SiPM matrices of 1.5 mm pitch will be used for the x–y photon hit position determination with submillimetric accuracy, while a low granularity surface constituted by 16 mm2 SiPM pixels will provide the fast timing information (t) that will be used to implement the Time of Flight technique (TOF). The spatial information collected by the two detector layers will be combined in order to measure the Depth of Interaction (DOI) of each event (z). The use of large area multi-pixel Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) detectors requires the development of a multichannel Data Acquisition system (DAQ) as well as of a dedicated front-end in order not to degrade the intrinsic detector capabilities and to manage many channels. Todos los interesados en cursar un Máster Oficial en la Universidad de Valladolid tendrán que realizar una preinscripción, en los plazos establecidos. Para ello es necesario de una aplicación informática habilitada al efecto que permita la recogida de la información necesaria y la gestión de dichas solicitudes. El presente Trabajo Fin de Grado tiene como objetivo el desarrollo de una aplicación Web que permita gestionar el proceso de solicitud y gestión de las Preinscripciones a Estudios Oficiales de Máster de la Universidad de Valladolid (excepto para el Máster de Secundaria). La lógica del nihilismo y la pregunta por la metafísica en Heidegger

En el presente trabajo el autor pretende adentrarse en la pregunta por la metafísica en el pensamiento de Martin Heidegger, en primera instancia a través de una indagación histórica por el surgimiento y transformación de dicho concepto a lo largo de la historia de la filosofía. Posteriormente y a gracias a ciertos textos escogidos de Heidegger, se presenta una caracterización de la metafísica como onto-teo-logía y se indaga por el origen de la configuración de dicha estructura en la historia del pensamiento occidental. Finalmente se pone de manifiesto de qué manera en el pensamiento de Heidegger existe una conexión esencial entre el desarrollo de la metafísica (y su pregunta conductora por la totalidad de lo ente) con la condición de la época presente caracterizada por expresar el desarrollo del nihilismo.Licenciado (a) en FilosofíaPregrad

Anemia drepanocítica: una enfermedad emergente

la drepanocitosis es una de las hemoglobinopatías más frecuentes, junto a la talasemia, a nivel mundial. Esta enfermedad se originó en África, pero debido a los movimientos migratorios cada día es más frecuente en nuestro medio. La clínica de la enfermedad de células falciformes puede ser muy variable, dependiendo de la forma homocigótica o heterocigótica. Las manifestaciones de la forma homocigótica son las que más morbilidad causan a los que padecen esta enfermedad, siendo características las crisis vaso oclusivas. Debido a morbilidad de estas manifestaciones ha sido objeto de atención la fisiopatología de la enfermedad para buscar un tratamiento idóneo a estos enfermos ya que hasta el momento no hay ninguno curativo, a excepción del trasplante de médula ósea. El objetivo de este trabajo fue realizar una revisión bibliográfica sobre la anemia falciforme, haciendo hincapié en los tratamientos y nuevas posibilidades terapéuticas

Prostatic cyst: An unusual cause of hemospermia

A 31-year-old man was referred to our service because of recurrent hemospermia over the last 4 years, there were no other symptoms like perineal pain, fever, dysuria, nocturia or urgency; this patient only presented hemospermia with clots. Genital examination was normal. Semen analysis showed no change in volume and pH; however, hemospermia and asthenozoospermia were observed. The semen culture was normal. Ultrasonography only revealed the presence of a cystic lesion adjoining the prostate gland, next to the bladder neck. The retrograde urethrogram was normal. The CT scan revealed only a small calcification in the right seminal vesicle. Endoscopic cistourethroscopy demonstrated 2 cystic dilatations arising on both sides of the prostate gland adjacent to the bladder neck, behind the verumontanum with vessels running over the surface prostatic cyst dilatation. The diagnosis of prostatic gland cystic dilatation was reached and confirmed by pathology that reported fibroconnective tissue with fibrosis and hyalinization. Transurethral unroofing of the cyst was performed separately with a successful outcome

Data for the modelling of the future power system with a high share of variable renewable energy

Energy and power system models have become necessary tools that provide challenges and technical and economic solutions for integrating high shares of Variable Renewable Energy. Models are focused on analysing strategies of power systems to achieve their decarbonisation targets. The data presented in this paper includes the model algorithm, inputs, equations, modelling assumptions, supplementary materials, and results of the simulations supporting the research article titled “Facing the high share of variable renewable energy in the power system: flexibility and stability requirements”. The analysis is based on data from the system operator of one of the European Union member states (Spain). The developed model allows making projections and calculations to obtain the power generation of each technology, the international interconnections, inertia, emissions, system costs and flexibility requirements of new technologies. Competencia de las malas hierbas en remolacha azucarera de siembra otoñal

La competencia de las malas hierbas en remolacha puede llegar a ocasionar hasta un 40% de pérdidas de rendimiento, ¡casi la mitad de la cosecha! — Periodo de Tolerancia: se ha verificado que las emergencias más problemáticas de malas hierbas son las que coinciden con la emergencia de la remolacha y que a partir de un cultivo en 4 hojas verdaderas pueden ocasionar pérdidas de rendimiento. Por tanto, ¡no espere a que nazcan todas las hierbas para controlarlas! — Periodo Libre: las emergencias de malas hierbas posteriores también pueden afectar al rendimiento. En casos de infestaciones severas, pueden llegar hasta las 16 hojas de la remolacha. Por tanto, debe controlar las nuevas emergencias tras la primera otoñada y mantener limpio el cultivo hasta el cierre de calles
