    Electrical and infrared properties of thin niobium microbolometers near T(sub c)

    Get PDF
    Niobium microbolometers approximately 1 micron wide x 2 micron long x 10 nm thick have been integrated at the feeds of equiangular spiral antennas made of 200 nm thick Nb. The device's current-voltage characteristics and infrared responsivity as a function of DC bias voltage were measured over a range of temperature spanning approximately plus or minus 2 percent around T(sub c). The greatest voltage responsivity occurs well below T(sub c), in a regime where the I-V curve is significantly hysteretic due to self-heating and resembles the I-V curve of a superconducting microbridge

    Sneutrino-Antisneutrino Mixing and Neutrino Mass in Anomaly--mediated Supersymmetry Breaking Scenario

    In supersymmetric models with nonzero Majorana neutrino mass, the sneutrino and antisneutrino mix, which may lead to same sign dilepton signals in future collider experiments. We point out that the anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario has a good potential to provide an observable rate of such signals for the neutrino masses suggested by the atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillations. The sneutrino mixing rate is naturally enhanced by m_{3/2}/m_{\tilde{\nu}}={\cal O}(4\pi/\alpha) while the sneutrino decay rate is small enough on a sizable portion of the parameter space. We point out also that the sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing can provide much stronger information on some combinations of the neutrino masses and mixing angles than neutrino experiments.Comment: Revtex, 13 pages, 2 figure

    Constraining New Physics with the CDF Measurement of CP Violation in BψKSB \to \psi K_S

    Full text link
    Recently, the CDF collaboration has reported a measurement of the CP asymmetry in the BψKSB\to\psi K_S decay: aψKS=0.790.44+0.41a_{\psi K_S}=0.79^{+0.41}_{-0.44}. We analyze the constraints that follow from this measurement on the size and the phase of contributions from new physics to B-\barB mixing. Defining the relative phase between the full M12M_{12} amplitude and the Standard Model contribution to be 2θd2\theta_d, we find a new bound: \sin2\theta_d\gsim-0.6 (-0.87) at one sigma (95% CL). Further implications for the CP asymmetry in semileptonic B decays are discussed.Comment: 13 pages, harvmac, 3 figures; v2: a discussion of new physics effects on tree level decays added; references added; accepted for publication in Physical Review Letter

    Organization of Multinational Activities and Ownership Structure

    We develop a model in which multinational investors decide about the modes of organization, the locations of production, and the markets to be served. Foreign investments are driven by market-seeking and cost-reducing motives. We further assume that investors face costs of control that vary among sectors and increase in distance. The results show that (i) production intensive sectors are more likely to operate a foreign business independent of the investment motive, (ii) that distance may have a non-monotonous effect on the likelihood of horizontal investments, and (iii) that globalization, if understood as reducing distance, leads to more integration

    Waiting for Clear Signals of New Physics in B and K Decays

    Full text link
    We classify the extensions of the Standard Model (SM) according to the structure of local operators in the weak effective Hamiltonian and the presence or absence of new flavour and CP-violating interactions beyond those represented by the CKM matrix. In particular we review characteristic properties of models with minimal flavour violation (MFV), models with significant contributions from Higgs penguins and models with enhanced Z^0 penguins carrying a large new CP-violating phase. Within the latter models, the anomalous behaviour of certain B\to\pi K observables implies large departures from the SM predictions for rare and CP-violating K and B decays. Most spectacular is the enhancement of Br(K_L->pi^0 nu nubar) by one order of magnitude and a strong violation of the MFV relation (\sin2\beta)_{\pi\nu\bar\nu}=(\sin2\beta)_{\psi K_S}. On the other hand our prediction for (\sin2\beta)_{\phi K_S}\approx 0.9 differs from the Belle result by the sign but is consistent with the BaBar value. We give a personal shopping list for the coming years.Comment: Main latex-file, 4 figures, 22 page

    Constraining Models of New Physics in Light of Recent Experimental Results on aψKSa_{\psi K_S}

    Get PDF
    We study extensions of the Standard Model where the charged current weak interactions are governed by the CKM matrix and where all tree-level decays are dominated by their Standard Model contribution. We constrain both analytically and numerically the ratio and the phase difference between the New Physics and the Standard Model contributions to the mixing amplitude of the neutral BB system using the experimental results on RuR_u, Δmd,s\Delta m_{d,s}, ϵK\epsilon_K and aψKSa_{\psi K_S}. We present new results concerning models with minimal flavor violation and update the relevant parameter space. We also study the left-right symmetric model with spontaneously broken CP, probing the viability of this model in view of the recent results for aψKSa_{\psi K_S} and other observables.Comment: 32 pages, including 9 figures, typos and error in fig. 1 corrected, minor modificiation in the text, conclusions unchanged, to appear in PR
