Resource Price Turbulence and Macroeconomic Adjustment for a Resource Exporter: a conceptual framework for policy analysis
Increased global demand for energy and other resources, particularly from the rapidly developing economies of China and India and the opening up of global resource markets to global investors and speculative activity, has resulted in considerable recent turbulence in resource prices. The recent magnitude of change in resource prices, both positive and negative, and their macroeconomic implications is of considerable contemporary importance to both resource importing and exporting economies. For a resource exporting economy, such as that of Australia, the recent resource price boom has resulted in: increased government taxation revenue, increased employment and wages in the resource and resource related sectors, increased spending in the domestic economy that contributed to buoyant economic growth, increased resource exports to the booming economies of China and India and contributed to a stronger domestic currency with beneficial effects upon inflation. On the other hand these developments have had adverse effects on the non resource sector by: subjecting it to more intense competition for limited resources, contributing to a loss of international competitiveness and reduced exports arising from a stronger exchange rate, reducing employment in the relatively more labour intensive non resource sector, and contributing to an eventual slow down in the overall economy. These positive and negative effects, and the overall impact of a resource price boom, require a fundamentally closer analysis of the structure of the economy under scrutiny. In this context the policy response by government is likely to be pivotal in determining the overall macroeconomic outcomes from a resource price boom. The aim of this paper is to develop a generic analytical framework to appraise economic outcomes in the wake of a resource price boom for a resource producing and exporting economy. To this end a dynamic long run macroeconomic model is developed, emphasising the important role and contribution of government fiscal policy in influencing subsequent macroeconomic outcomes. The adjustment process in the model arising from a resource price shock emphasises a spending (or wealth) effect, an income effect, a revenue effect, a current account effect and an exchange rate effect, which facilitate a robust analysis of subsequent macroeconomic outcomes from such a shock as well as related policy responses.Resource price shock, dynamic macroeconomic model, simulation analysis, macroeconomic adjustment, policy analysis

Toward a creative-critical approach to narratives of student-to-student abuse in Canadaâs Indian Residential School System
There is a dearth of research on student-to-student abuse in Canadaâs Indian Residential School System despite the fact that the legacy of this violence continues to negatively impact Indigenous communities. This paper proposes an approach to dealing with this difficult subject matter by using creative practice as a means of working collectively with community leaders, scholars, artists and students to develop shared understandings of the abuse and its continued legacy. This paper outlines the rationale for work in this area and the beginnings of the development of hybrid Indigenous and non-Indigenous methodology that brings survivorsâ stories to audiences through a series of collectively authored theatrical performances that promote understanding and dialog. This paper is of interest to scholars, artists, playwrights, community leaders, and front line social workers who are working to bridge academic research and community engagement, particularly as it relates to artistic practice

THYMUS-DERIVED LYMPHOCYTES PRODUCE AN IMMUNOLOGICALLY SPECIFIC MACROPHAGEARMING FACTOR
Spleen cells from mice immunized with an allogeneic tumor when cultured with the specific tumor cells release into the supernatant a specific macrophage-arming factor(s) (SMAF) which binds nonspecifically to macrophages from both mice and rats and renders these cytotoxic to the specific tumor cells. SMAF also binds in an immunologically specific way to the target cells. SMAF-treated target cells grow normally in the absence of macrophages but are killed in the presence of normal macrophages. Thymus-derived cells are necessary for the production of SMAF since (a) after treatment with anti-θ serum immune spleen cells fail to release SMAF; (b) spleen cells from immunized T cell-deprived mice (thymectomized as adults followed by whole body irradiation and restored with bone marrow) fail to produce SMAF on stimulation with the specific target cells. While SMAF has the properties of a cytophilic antibody, it does not belong to one of the established classes of immunoglobulin since high activity is found after column separation in a fraction having a molecular weight between 50,000â60,000 daltons
Poly(n-butyl Methacrylate) with Primary Amine End Groups for Supporting Cell Adhesion and Proliferation of Renal Epithelial Cells
Polymer coatings that support epithelial cell culture have been developed. Ozonolysis and subsequent work up of poly(butyl methacrylate-co-butadiene) copolymers is used to form oligomers with carboxylic acid end groups, which are then further reacted with diamines to provide poly(butyl methacrylate)s with primary amine end groups. The polymers are cast as films and used as cell culture substrates for human dermal fibroblasts and human renal epithelial cells. Fibroblast and epithelial cells adhere and proliferate on acid functional materials but on amine functional films epithelial cells show greater viability than fibroblasts
