    Generating Distributed Programs from Event-B Models

    Distributed algorithms offer challenges in checking that they meet their specifications. Verification techniques can be extended to deal with the verification of safety properties of distributed algorithms. In this paper, we present an approach for combining correct-by-construction approaches and transformations of formal models (Event-B) into programs (DistAlgo) to address the design of verified distributed programs. We define a subset LB (Local Event-B) of the Event-B modelling language restricted to events modelling the classical actions of distributed programs as internal or local computations, sending messages and receiving messages. We define then transformations of the various elements of the LB language into DistAlgo programs. The general methodology consists in starting from a statement of the problem to program and then progressively producing an LB model obtained after several refinement steps of the initial LB model. The derivation of the LB model is not described in the current paper and has already been addressed in other works. The transformation of LB models into DistAlgo programs is illustrated through a simple example.     Alveolar echinococcosis in solid organ transplant recipients: a case series from two national cohorts

    Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a severe parasitic infection caused by the ingestion of Echinococcus multilocularis eggs. While higher incidence and faster evolution have been reported in immunosuppressed patients, no studies have been performed specifically on AE in transplant patients. We searched for all de novo AE cases diagnosed between January 2008 and August 2018 in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients included in the Swiss Transplant Cohort Study and the FrancEchino Registry. Eight cases were identified (kidney = 5, lung = 2, heart = 1, liver = 0), half of which were asymptomatic at diagnosis. AE diagnosis was difficult due to the low sensitivity (60%) of the standard screening serology (Em2+) and the frequently atypical radiological presentations. Conversely, Echinococcus Western blot retained good diagnostic performances and was positive in all eight cases. Five patients underwent surgery, but complete resection could only be achieved in one case. Moreover, two patients died of peri-operative complications. Albendazole was initiated in seven patients and was well tolerated. Overall, AE regressed in one, stabilized in three, and progressed in one case, and had an overall mortality of 37.5% (3/8 patients). Our data suggest that AE has a higher mortality and a faster clinical course in SOT recipients; they also suggest that the parasitic disease might be due to the reactivation of latent microscopic liver lesions through immune suppression. Western blot serology should be preferred in this population. Finally, surgery should be considered with caution, because of its low success rate and high mortality, and conservative treatment with albendazole is well tolerated

    Fibronectin Extra Domains tune cellular responses and confer topographically distinct features to fibril networks

    International audienceCellular fibronectin (FN; also known as FN1) variants harboring one or two alternatively spliced so-called extra domains (EDB and EDA) play a central bioregulatory role during development, repair processes and fibrosis. Yet, how the extra domains impact fibrillar assembly and function of the molecule remains unclear. Leveraging a unique biological toolset and image analysis pipeline for direct comparison of the variants, we demonstrate that the presence of one or both extra domains impacts FN assembly, function and physical properties of the matrix. When presented to FN-null fibroblasts, extra domain-containing variants differentially regulate pH homeostasis, survival, and TGF- β by tuning the magnitude of cellular responses, rather than triggering independent molecular switches. Numerical analyses of fiber topologies highlight significant differences in variant-specific structural features and provide a first step for the development of a generative model of FN networks to unravel assembly mechanisms and investigate the physical and functional versatility of extracellular matrix landscapes

    Multidisciplinary investigation on cold seeps with vigorous gas emissions in the Sea of Marmara (MarsiteCruise): Strategy for site detection and sampling and first scientific outcome

    MarsiteCruise was undertaken in October/November 2014 in the Sea of Marmara to gain detailed insight into the fate of fluids migrating within the sedimentary column and partially released into the water column. The overall objective of the project was to achieve a more global understanding of cold-seep dynamics in the context of a major active strike-slip fault. Five remotely operated vehicle (ROV) dives were performed at selected areas along the North Anatolian Fault and inherited faults. To efficiently detect, select and sample the gas seeps, we applied an original procedure. It combines sequentially (1) the acquisition of ship-borne multibeam acoustic data from the water column prior to each dive to detect gas emission sites and to design the tracks of the ROV dives, (2) in situ and real-time Raman spectroscopy analysis of the gas stream, and (3) onboard determination of molecular and isotopic compositions of the collected gas bubbles. The in situ Raman spectroscopy was used as a decision-making tool to evaluate the need for continuing with the sampling of gases from the discovered seep, or to move to another one. Push cores were gathered to study buried carbonates and pore waters at the surficial sediment, while CTD-Rosette allowed collecting samples to measure dissolved-methane concentration within the water column followed by a comparison with measurements from samples collected with the submersible Nautile during the Marnaut cruise in 2007. Overall, the visited sites were characterized by a wide diversity of seeps. CO2- and oil-rich seeps were found at the westernmost part of the sea in the Tekirdag Basin, while amphipods, anemones and coral populated the sites visited at the easternmost part in the Cinarcik Basin. Methane-derived authigenic carbonates and bacterial mats were widespread on the seafloor at all sites with variable size and distributions. The measured methane concentrations in the water column were up to 377 μmol, and the dissolved pore-water profiles indicated the occurrence of sulfate depleting processes accompanied with carbonate precipitation. The pore-water profiles display evidence of biogeochemical transformations leading to the fast depletion of seawater sulfate within the first 25-cm depth of the sediment. These results show that the North Anatolian Fault and inherited faults are important migration paths for fluids for which a significant part is discharged into the water column, contributing to the increase of methane concentration at the bottom seawater and favoring the development of specific ecosystems

    Le facteur de transcription de la famille ETS, ESE-1, était connu jusqu'á présent comme un facteur spécifique des épithéliums avec une concentration plus importante dans l'épiderme et le tractus gastro-intetinal .Nous montrons à présent que ESE-1 peut etre induit dans des cellules non-épithéliales en réponse à l'actions des stimuli pro-inflammatoires tels que IL-1, TNF-a et les lipopolysaccharides bacteriens. Cette expression est notamment retrouvées dans les chondrocytres, les monocytes et les cellules musculaires lisses. Nous montrons une expression particulière de ESE-1 lors de la polyarthrite rhumatoide et de l'endotoxémie. Cette expression met en jeu l'acticvation de NF-kB comme nous le montrons par des experience de retatrd sur gel, de transctivation et de chromatin immunoprécipitation. En retour, ESE-1 peut activer l'expression de plusieurs gènes importants de l'inflammation tels que COX-2 et iNOS. Cette induction est renforcée par une coopération avec NF-kB et NFATThe ETS transcription factor ESE-1 was so far know as a factor specific of the epithelial. We now report that it can be induced in non-epithelials cells in response to pro-inflammatory stimuli such as IL-1, TNF-a and the lipopolysaccharides. This induction is noted in several cell types such as chondrocytes, monocytes ans smooth muscle cells.. We were able to show an expression of ESE-1 dring the rhumatoid arthritis and endotoxxemia. This induction of ESE-1 is mediated by NF-kB as it is shown by transctivation, EMSA and chromtin immunoprecipitation. ESE-1 is then capable of activating the expression of several genes important in inflammation such as COX-2 et iNOS. This activation happens in collaboration with other transcriptions factors such as NF-kB and NFAT. We pressent evidences that a neutralisation of ESE-1 via dominant negative constructs of ESE-1 could inhibit the expression levels of COX-2CHATENAY M.-PARIS 11-BU Pharma.     Estimation of common cause failure parameters with periodic tests

    International audienceIn the specific case of safety systems, CCF parameters estimators for standby components depend on the periodic test schemes. Classically, the testing schemes are either staggered (alternation of tests on redundant components) or non-staggered (all components are tested at the same time). In reality, periodic tests schemes performed on safety components are more complex and combine staggered tests, when the plant is in operation, to non-staggered tests during maintenance and refueling outage periods of the installation. Moreover, the CCF parameters estimators described in the US literature are derived in a consistent way with US Technical Specifications constraints that do not apply on the French Nuclear Power Plants for staggered tests on standby components. Given these issues, the evaluation of CCF parameters from the operating feedback data available within EDF implies the development of methodologies that integrate the testing schemes specificities. This paper aims to formally propose a solution for the estimation of CCF parameters given two distinct difficulties respectively related to a mixed testing scheme and to the consistency with EDF’s specific practices inducing systematic non-simultaneity of the observed failures in a staggered testing scheme
