Using mobile RE tools to give end-users their own voice
Researchers highlight end-user involvement in system design as an important concept for developing useful and usable solutions. However, end-user involvement in software engineering is still an open-ended topic. Novel paradigms such as service-oriented computing strengthen the need for more active end-user involvement in order to provide systems that are tailored to individual end-user needs. Our work is based on the fact that the majority of end-users are familiar with mobile devices and use an increasing number of mobile applications. A mobile tool enabling end-user led requirements elicitation could be just one of many applications installed on end-users' mobile devices. In this paper, we present a framework of end-user involvement in requirements elicitation which motivates our research. The main contribution of our research is a tool-supported requirements elicitation approach allowing end-users to document needs in situ. Furthermore, we present first evaluation results to highlight the feasibility of on-site end-user led requirements elicitation
The heat kernel expansion for the electromagnetic field in a cavity
We derive the first six coefficients of the heat kernel expansion for the
electromagnetic field in a cavity by relating it to the expansion for the
Laplace operator acting on forms. As an application we verify that the
electromagnetic Casimir energy is finite.Comment: 12 page
Surveying the SO(10) Model Landscape: The Left-Right Symmetric Case
Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) are a very well motivated extensions of the
Standard Model (SM), but the landscape of models and possibilities is
overwhelming, and different patterns can lead to rather distinct
phenomenologies. In this work we present a way to automatise the model building
process, by considering a top to bottom approach that constructs viable and
sensible theories from a small and controllable set of inputs at the high
scale. By providing a GUT scale symmetry group and the field content, possible
symmetry breaking paths are generated and checked for consistency, ensuring
anomaly cancellation, SM embedding and gauge coupling unification. We emphasise
the usefulness of this approach for the particular case of a non-supersymmetric
SO(10) model with an intermediate left-right symmetry and we analyse how
low-energy observables such as proton decay and lepton flavour violation might
affect the generated model landscape.Comment: 36 pages, 6 figure

The Resonance Peak in SrRuO: Signature of Spin Triplet Pairing
We study the dynamical spin susceptibility, , in the
normal and superconducting state of SrRuO. In the normal state, we find
a peak in the vicinity of in agreement with
recent inelastic neutron scattering (INS) experiments. We predict that for spin
triplet pairing in the superconducting state a {\it resonance peak} appears in
the out-of-plane component of , but is absent in the in-plane component.
In contrast, no resonance peak is expected for spin singlet pairing.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, final versio
Mission analysis data for inclined geosynchronous orbits, part 1
Data needed for preliminary design of inclined geosynchronous missions are provided. The inertial and Earth fixed coordinate systems are described, as well as orbit parameters and elements. The complete family of geosynchronous orbits is discussed. It is shown that circular inclined geosynchronous orbits comprise only one set in this family. The major orbit perturbation and their separate effects on the geosynchronous orbit are discussed. Detailed information on the orbit perturbation of inclined circular geosynchronous orbits is given, with emphasis on time history data of certain orbital elements. Orbit maintenance delta velocity (V) requirements to counteract the major orbit perturbations are determined in order to provide order of magnitude estimates and to show the effects of orbit inclination on delta V. Some of the considerations in mission design for a multisatellite system, such as a halo orbit constellation, are discussed
