    Simulations for Event-Clock Automata

    Event-clock automata are a well-known subclass of timed automata which enjoy admirable theoretical properties, e.g., determinizability, and are practically useful to capture timed specifications. However, unlike for timed automata, there exist no implementations for event-clock automata. A main reason for this is the difficulty in adapting zone-based algorithms, critical in the timed automata setting, to the event-clock automata setting. This difficulty was studied in [Gilles Geeraerts et al., 2011; Gilles Geeraerts et al., 2014], where the authors also proposed a solution using zone extrapolations. In this paper, we propose an alternative zone-based algorithm, using simulations for finiteness, to solve the reachability problem for event-clock automata. Our algorithm exploits the ?-simulation framework, which is the coarsest known simulation relation for reachability, and has been recently used for advances in other extensions of timed automata

    A Unified Model for Real-Time Systems: Symbolic Techniques and Implementation

    In this paper, we consider a model of generalized timed automata (GTA) with two kinds of clocks, history and future, that can express many timed features succinctly, including timed automata, event-clock automata with and without diagonal constraints, and automata with timers. Our main contribution is a new simulation-based zone algorithm for checking reachability in this unified model. While such algorithms are known to exist for timed automata, and have recently been shown for event-clock automata without diagonal constraints, this is the first result that can handle event-clock automata with diagonal constraints and automata with timers. We also provide a prototype implementation for our model and show experimental results on several benchmarks. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first effective implementation not just for our unified model, but even just for automata with timers or for event-clock automata (with predicting clocks) without going through a costly translation via timed automata. Last but not least, beyond being interesting in their own right, generalized timed automata can be used for model-checking event-clock specifications over timed automata models

    QTL Landscape for Oil Content in Brassica juncea: Analysis in Multiple Bi-Parental Populations in High and “0” Erucic Background

    Increasing oil content in oilseed mustard (Brassica juncea) is a major breeding objective—more so, in the lines that have “0” erucic acid content (< 2% of the seed oil) as earlier studies have shown negative pleiotropic effect of erucic acid loci on the oil content, both in oilseed mustard and rapeseed. We report here QTL analysis of oil content in eight different mapping populations involving seven different parents—including a high oil content line J8 (~49%). The parental lines of the mapping populations contained wide variation in oil content and erucic acid content. The eight mapping populations were categorized into two sets—five populations with individuals segregating for erucic acid (SE populations) and the remaining three with zero erucic acid segregants (ZE populations). Meta-analysis of QTL mapped in individual SE populations identified nine significant C-QTL, with two of these merging most of the major oil QTL that colocalized with the erucic acid loci on the linkage groups A08 and B07. QTL analysis of oil content in ZE populations revealed a change in the landscape of the oil QTL compared to the SE populations, in terms of altered allelic effects and phenotypic variance explained by ZE QTL at the “common” QTL and observation of “novel” QTL in the ZE background. The important loci contributing to oil content variation, identified in the present study could be used in the breeding programmes for increasing the oil content in high erucic and “0” erucic backgrounds

    Fractures of the orbital floor have traditionally been treated through transorbital approaches. Transconjunctival approaches risk entropion, whereas transcutaneous approaches risk ectropion or hypertrophic scarring. The intraoral transantral approach to the orbital floor has the advantage of minimizing the risk of any eyelid changes while providing appropriate access to reduce the herniated orbital contents and restore orbital volume. This article describes 4 plating methods for reconstructing a fractured orbital floor using a transantral approach. Many prior descriptions of transantral treatment of the orbital floor have relied heavily on the use of an endoscope. This article describes an osteotomy technique that does not require an endoscope but requires only a high-quality headlight for visualization
