This paper analyzes the process of learning by using ICT as a platform the goal of which is to facilitate accessibility and flow of information as well as interaction among participants involved in learning, which aims at improving the learning process itself. Special stress is placed on distance learning in a web-based environment. Proposals for a faster and easier integration of such type of learning are given and both its advantages and shortcomings are discussed. The paper also presents an analysis of the approach to e-learning and distance learning at engineering faculties that might be generalized and applied to other branches and learning levels. Changes necessary for introduction of distance learning and e-learning are proposed as well. Shortcomings of the current approach to teaching are pointed out, but possible shortcomings that might occur as a result of e-learning are also emphasized. The education of children is important because it determines the future of the world. Teachers have a great responsibility for this, which applies to every subject taught. In this regard, teachers usually specialize in a specific area and greatly influence how the subject is taught and how students gain a view of the subject. The present study aimed to investigate teachersā€™ attitudes about subjects in primary school, with a particular focus on physical education. The sample of participants (N = 111) included Croatian female primary school teachers with a mean age of 47.88 (Ā±8.11 SD) years and a mean teaching experience of 21.83 (Ā±10.24 SD) years. The variable sample consisted of a three-criteria questionnaire for the assessment of classroom subjects: (i) the importance of a subject (importance); (ii) the level of qualifications obtained during study for a subject (qualification); and (iii) the teacherā€™s competence for teaching (competence). Significant differences were found in the assessment of classroom subjects. The group of core academic subjects has noticeably higher assessments than the group of practical and artistic subjects. The assessment of teachersā€™ competence in PE teaching is the lowest of all the classroom subjects. Further research of classroom teachersā€™ attitudes towards the implementation of physical education is advised, with an increased number of participants and the inclusion of new measures

Study of the Electrochemical Oxidation of Reactive Textile Dyes Using Platinum Electrode

    Get PDF
Textile industries are widespread in developing countries. Among the various processes in the textile industry, the dyeing process uses large volumes of water for dyeing, fixing and washing. Textile industry wastewater is characterized by intensive color and high chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentrations that discarding of these toxic wastewaters to the environment will cause a major problem. In this study electrochemical oxidation of reactive textile dyes: Reactive Blue 52, Reactive Black 5, Reactive Green 15, and Reactive Yellow 125, using platinum anode was examined. Electrolysis is carried out in electrochemical cell containing membrane which is standard membrane in industry. Membrane separated anodic and cathodic area. Supporting electrolyte was 0.1M sodium sulfate which is also present in real textile effluents. Applied voltage of 6, 12 and 24V, and influence of membrane on electrolysis were examined on model dye (Reactive Blue 52). Highest degradation degree for model dye was achieved at 12V, so electrolysis of other dyes was done on this voltage. COD value of all dyes dropped after 60 minutes of electrolysis below a measurable level ( LT 30mg/L O-2), except Reactive Black 5 whose COD reduction was 57.95% with membrane and 35.28% without membrane applied. Complete decolorization was achieved after 10 to 60 minutes for all dyes. Degradation products of model dye Reactive Blue 52 were monitored with HPLC, and influence of pH on decolorization was also examined on model dye

Predicting News Values from Headline Text and Emotions

We present a preliminary study on predicting news values from headline text and emotions. We perform a multivariate analysis on a dataset manually annotated with news values and emotions, discovering interesting correlations among them. We then train two competitive machine learning models ā€“ an SVM and a CNN ā€“ to predict news values from headline text and emotions as features. We find that, while both models yield a satisfactory performance, some news values are more difficult to detect than others, while some profit more from including emotion information

Objective This retrospective study was designed to assess and compare the anatomical, functional, and esthetic appearance of the umbilical area in patients after repair of gastroschisis using the inner surface of the umbilical cord (UC) and in patients with omphalocele conservatively treated. Background Our procedure transformed gastroschisis into an ā€˜artificialā€“surgical omphaloceleā€™ in which the prolapsed intestine was covered with an umbilical patch, the inner surface of which contained Whartonā€™s jelly (WJ).Methods We have summarized an experience of 17 years in repairing gastroschisis using the inner surface of the UC. From 1986 to 2003, 21 infants with gastroschisis and one with a ruptured omphalocele were treated with this technique. We used Eagleā€™s medium to prove the validity of the umbilical stump and the duration of its viability. The inner surface of the umbilical patch is a ā€˜liveā€™ structure with WJ, which contains mucoid connective tissue and fibroblast-like cells ā€“ that is, stem cells producing cutis, adipose, and connective tissue. Results Using our method, early control assessment of 18 of 21 patients with gastroschisis, at intervals of 1ā€“3 months, showed good functional and esthetic results. Clinical long-term results in terms of anatomical, clinical, and functional findings were excellent. Besides clinical testimony, we used high-frequency ultrasonography to make an appraisal of the effectiveness of WJ stem cells in the repair of gastroschisis, and compared our results with healthy volunteers and patients withĀ  omphalocele conservatively treated. Conclusion This paper describes the effect of the local application of WJ ā€“ that is, mesenchymal stromal cells derived from the inner surface of the umbilical stump ā€“ and its influence on the healing process of the birth defect and wound. Keywords: gastroschisis, high frequency ultrasound imaging, inner surface of umbilical patch, ruptured omphalocele, Whartonā€™s jell

Variability of Soil Erosion Intensity Due to Vegetation Cover Changes: Case Study of Orahovacka Rijeka, Montenegro

Vegetation cover change in all the river basins leads to the changes of hydrologic response, soil erosion and sediment dynamics characteristics. Those changes are often viewed as main cause of anthropogenic and accelerated erosion rates in short term and one of the main reasons of climate change in long term. The effects of vegetation cover changes on various parts of water balance and hydrological cycle has to be deeply studied because of its important role on mankind future. The aim of present research was therefore to simulate the responses of soil erosion processes by using a process-oriented soil erosion model IntErO, with the different settings of land use for the years 1977, 1987, 1997, 2006 (2007) and 2016 (2017) in Orahovacka Rijeka watershed; a pilot river basin of the Polimlje Region for the northeastern part of Montenegro. For the current state of land use, calculated peak discharge for the Orahovacka Rijeka was 174-175 m(3) s(-1) (the incidence of 100 years) and there is a possibility for large flood waves to appear in the studied basin. Real soil losses, Gyear, were calculated on 2614-2921 m(3) year(-1), specific 229-256 m(3) km(-2) year(-1) (1977-2017). The value of Z coefficient range from 0.444 to 0.478 and indicates that the river basin belongs to III destruction category. The strength of the erosion process is medium, and according to the erosion type, it is surface erosion. According to our analysis the land use changes in the last 40 years influenced the increase of the soil erosion intensity for 11% in the study watershed. Further studies should be focused on the detailed analysis of the land use changes trends with the other river basins at the national level, closely following responses of soil erosion to the changed land use structure. The results and approach also should be used by policymakers in all national natural resources organizations to highlight the role of management

    Get PDF
The current study examine the effects of combined sprint and resistance training on serum total testosterone (TT), sex-hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and cortisol (C), at rest, and in response to the Wingate Anaerobic-Test (WAnT) in 21 and 41years old men. Forty moderately-trained men were randomly assigned to a young trained (YT), young control (YC), middle-aged trained (MAT), and middle-aged control (MAC) group. Before (P1), and after (P2) training, blood samples were collected at rest and after exercise. At P1, higher C and lower TT was observed in middle-aged groups compared to younger ones (P0.05). Basal SHBG decreased significantly in YT at P2 (P0.05). Free-testosterone was significantly (P0.05). C post-WAnT increased significantly for MAT only (P0.05). The current study demonstrates that this training intervention may help increase steroids hormones in middle-aged men and counteract the negative effect of age on TT and free testosterone. Highlights: Total testosterone, cortisol and SHBG increase with the exercise intensity; Intensive training increase basal testosterone levels in middleĀ-aged men; Intensive training reduces age effect in testosterone levels in middleĀ-aged men; Intensive training does not alter basal SHBG and cortisol levels in middleĀ-aged men
