A construção imaginativa de cuidados: a experiência de profissionais de enfermagem em um serviço de assistência remota
Indexación: Web of Science; ScieloThe direction of care delivery goes from the action to the being; a process built from
professional experience, which gains special characteristics when the service is delivered by
telephone. The goal of this research was to understand the interaction between professionals and users in a
remote care service; to do so, a research is presented, using Grounded Theory and Symbolic
Interactionism as theoretical references. Data were collected through eight interviews with professionals who
deliver care by telephone. The theoretical understanding permitted the creation of the theoretical
model of the Imaginative Construction of Care, which shows the interaction processes the professional
experiences when delivering care by telephone. In this model, individual and social facts are
added, showing the link between the concepts, with special emphasis on uncertainty, sensitivity and
professional responsibility, as essential components of this experience.http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0104-11692012000400009&nrm=isohttp://ref.scielo.org/44chq
THE INFLUENCE OF MICROFINANCE ON THE EDUCATION DECISIONS OF RURAL HOUSEHOLDS: EVIDENCE FROM BOLIVIA
There is debate about measurement of impact and achievement of expected results of rural microfinance programs in LDCs. The paper addresses these issues using survey household data from Bolivia. Regression models examine the determinants of education outcomes for microfinance clients. The results challenge usual assumptions in program design.Teaching/Communication/Extension/Profession,
Parental motivations and attitudes toward a Spanish two-way immersion program in the Midwest
The purpose of this study is to explore the attitudes, motivations, and experiences of a group of Latino Spanish-speaking and Anglo English-speaking parents whose children were participating as kindergarten and first grade students in a new Spanish two-way immersion (TWI) program in a Midwest state. This study employed a phenomenological methodology in combination with Gardner\u27s (1985) attitude theory, Dornyei\u27s (1990) attitude classification and Baker\u27s (1992) attitude toward bilingualism theory, which were used to analyze parents\u27 responses. Personal and phone interviews were conducted to explore the parents\u27 knowledge of TWI programs, reasons for enrolling their child, and the activities and experiences of having their child in the TWI program. Latino parents and Anglo parents expressed similar motivations for enrolling their children in the program: bilingualism, biliteracy, and better job opportunities in the future. Latino parents expressed preservation of cultural heritage as one of the main reasons for having their child in the program, while Anglo parents shared a desire for their child to learn a second language at an early age. Anglo parents with multicultural families shared some of the same reasons for their child\u27s enrollment in the program as Latino parents. Parents offered recommendations for better communication between the school and parents in order to stimulate greater parent collaboration and involvement to achieve an even more successful TWI program
Single-molecule Dynamics in Protein Interactions: Characterization of RarA and RecD2 of Bacillus subtilis
Maintenance of genome integrity is one of the crucial functions in life, to preserve the appropriate genetic information, being homologous recombination a key process in the DNA repair. I have used a novel technique, using slim-field microscopy to obtain single-molecule dynamics of two poorly described proteins, RarA and RecD2, in different recombination deficient mutants and conditions to characterize them. Single-molecule microscopy has been shown as a powerful method for in vivo characterization of proteins and its interactions. Together with genetics, I have added a new level of complexity in the regulation of homologous recombination as a multiway process in which many factors are involved in different avenues with partially overlapping functions depending on the kind of DNA damage generated.
I have characterized RarA and RecD2 as factors involved in recombination, but also in replication of the DNA, being part of both RecA-independent and RecA-dependent replication progression, and antagonistic regulators of RecA filamentation. RarA plays its role in replication through interactions with DnaB, and in recombination as a RecA positive regulator through its interactions with RecA, RecO, RecR, RecD2 and RecU. RarA is regulated by the RecQ-like helicases RecQ and RecS. RecD2 plays a role in chromosomal segregation that becomes essential in the absence of RecG or RuvAB, and is a negative regulator in homologous recombination that interacts with RecA, RarA, RecX, RecF and PcrA
