Negative modulation of the GABAAρ1 receptor function by l-cysteine

l-Cysteine is an endogenous sulfur-containing amino acid with multiple and varied roles in the central nervous system, including neuroprotection and the maintenance of the redox balance. However, it was also suggested as an excitotoxic agent implicated in the pathogenesis of neurological disorders such as Parkinson′s and Alzheimer′s disease. l-Cysteine can modulate the activity of ionic channels, including voltage-gated calcium channels and glutamatergic NMDA receptors, whereas its effects on GABAergic neurotransmission had not been studied before. In the present work, we analyzed the effects of l-cysteine on responses mediated by homomeric GABAAρ1 receptors, which are known for mediating tonic γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) responses in retinal neurons. GABAAρ1 receptors were expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes and GABA-evoked chloride currents recorded by two-electrode voltage-clamp in the presence or absence of l-cysteine. l-Cysteine antagonized GABAAρ1 receptor-mediated responses; inhibition was dose-dependent, reversible, voltage independent, and susceptible to GABA concentration. Concentration-response curves for GABA were shifted to the right in the presence of l-cysteine without a substantial change in the maximal response. l-Cysteine inhibition was insensitive to chemical protection of the sulfhydryl groups of the ρ1 subunits by the irreversible alkylating agent N-ethyl maleimide. Our results suggest that redox modulation is not involved during l-cysteine actions and that l-cysteine might be acting as a competitive antagonist of the GABAAρ1 receptors. Ordering the direction of the family. Testamentary disposition of D. Antonio de Ulloa and the fate of the children: between tradition and innovation at the end of the 18th century

Esta investigación pretende un acercamiento a las estrategias familiares planteadas en el último tercio del siglo XVIII. Utilizando una metodología cualitativa y centrada en el estudio de casos, a través del micro análisis de lo expuesto por D. Antonio de Ulloa en su disposición testamentaria (1785), se intentaran captar las modificaciones de las prácticas y conductas familiares y su incidencia sobre el futuro de los hijos. Los aspectos que se consideran serán los relacionados con los sentimientos, el honor, los matrimonios, la educación y las salidas profesionales.This research aims at an approach to the family strategies in the last third of the 18th century. Using a qualitative methodology centred on the study of cases, through the microanalysis of the above by D. Antonio de Ulloa in his testamentary disposition (1785), try to capture the modifications of practices, family behaviour, and its impact on the future of children. Responsabilidad del estado en casos de contagio de infecciones intrahospitalarias

Artículo de investigaciónEl presente artículo presenta un análisis del escenario de contagio de pacientes en clínicas u hospitales públicos y la estructuracion de la responsabilidad del Estado en estos casos, basado en una metodología de análisis jurisprudencial y doctrinal que permita determinar el título de imputación y los casos que se han presentando en Colombia. El riesgo de contagio de infecciones en el ámbito intrahospitalario no se puede eliminar; cumplir los protocolos, si bien es cierto, disminuye tangiblemente la posibilidad de la ocurrencia de este hecho, no garantiza que no se pueda presentar esta situación, en ese sentido se hace nacesario realizar una análisis de la responsabilidad que puede surgir cuando dicho riesgo se llegue a materializar. Así entonces surge en interrogante ¿Cómo se estructura la responsabilidad del estado en los casos de contagio de infecciones intrahospitalarias? Local governement in Chiclana de la Frontera (1750-1814): articulation of interests and public expenditure

La corrupción, la gestión interesada de la administración pública, es una constante en la historia del hombre. Sin embargo, no es fácil sacarla a la luz y menos probarla. Con datos referidos a la villa de Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz) se pretende una aproximación a esta cuestión para el periodo 1750-1812. Tras conocer a los individuos que tienen intereses en la localidad, se verá las relaciones que mantienen con la administración municipal. Y, especialmente, la utilización de la misma para fines particulares. Ello es palpable en todo lo relacionado con la hacienda municipal, algo que se intentará detectar a través del análisis de las cuentas y otra documentación de carácter fiscal.Corruption, the interested management of public administration, is a constant in the history of man. However, it is not easy to bring it to light and even less to prove it. This paper addresses the question with information referred to Chiclana de la Frontera (Cadiz) for the period 1750-1812. After knowing the individuals with interests in the locality, it studies their relations with the municipal administration and, specially, its use for particular purposes. Aquest article està centrat en l’estudi de l’original programa iconogràfic del frontal d’altar de Sant Vicenç d’Espinelves (Osona), així com en la més que possible relació d’aquest amb la litúrgia i paralitúrgia que es duia a terme a la catedral romànica de Vic a la segona meitat del segle xii. Per poder remarcar el transfons litúrgic existent en la concepció d’aquest programa iconogràfic, la nostra anàlisi se centrarà en l’estudi tant de la litúrgia com de l’espai en el qual aquestes cerimònies es duien a terme
