Lesbian, anorexic, disabled, and big: Other ways of being a female physical education teacher

Research has shown that Physical Education (PE) is a white, male, and able body-dominated profession, particularly in Spain. When some female pre-service PE teachers, who had a difficult relationship with their bodies and sports abilities, enrol in such a degree, some of these problematic relations come to light. Participants for this study were four female pre-service teachers who self-identified as lesbian, anorexic, visually impaired, and big respectively. Data were collected through participant-produced texts, graphical representations, and interviews. The authors then reconstructed the participants’ stories which are presented in the form of narratives. The conceptual tool of embodying norm-criticality helped us to highlight the importance of critical reflection about own beliefs, past experiences and understandings, and their influence on pedagogical practices in PE. This study contributes to the push towards a change of the stereotypical beliefs of what a PE teacher should be or look like, and in this way, emphasises the vast benefits of diversifying PE teachers’ beliefs and understandings

Aplicación de herramientas estadísticas y la georreferenciación en el proceso a la cámara de representantes en Risaralda 2018

La estadística es una ciencia que cada día cobra mayor relevancia, es aplicada cada vez más en diferentes campos del saber ya que permite la obtención de datos, cuantificar la información, realizar análisis e inferencias para finalmente llegar a conclusiones que permitirán la toma de decisiones basada en datos confiables. En cada periodo electoral, los diferentes partidos políticos o candidatos desarrollan estrategias para alcanzar sus objetivos y utilizan las herramientas de la estadística para medir su nivel de aceptación en una población, de esta forma ellos pueden tomar decisiones y planificar una campaña política teniendo en cuenta los resultados. Professional intervention of social workers in relation to the integration of persons suffering from disabilities in sheltered workshops in the province of Mendoza

La temática de las personas en situación de discapacidad ha motivado en los últimos años gran interés en distintos ámbitos tantos académicos como de ejecución de políticas sociales, pero el cambio en la mirada ha comenzado a correr el velo sobre la inserción laboral de las personas que durante años fueron asociadas al concepto de enfermedad. Ello se encuentra relacionado también con diversos modelos conceptuales sobre la discapacidad que conviven en la actualidad. Se hace el aporte desde el Modelo Social de la Discapacidad, que apunta a reconocer la diversidad como un elemento inherente a la condición humana. "Socio-educational factors influencing cultural exchange in teaching English as a second language”

Cultural knowledge is fundamental in foreign language acquisition, allowing students to properly manage and develop the four language skills during the English teaching-learning process as a second language. According to diverse authors, several factors influence the foreign language learning process, which affects students during its acquisition. The present research objective was to determine the socio-educational factors that influence cultural exchange in the teaching-learning of English as a second language as a mechanism for interaction and familiarization in the students of the 2nd semester "A" of the Pedagogy of National and Foreign Languages career at the Technical University of Cotopaxi. The type of research was theoretical-exploratory because a bibliographic review of several authors was carried out to support the research; it was exploratory because the study was limited in this knowledge area, which made it an innovative project in the educational environment. The data collection resource was the survey applied to the selected sample of 36 students of the 2nd semester "A". The analysis of the data determined that learning culture was substantial in language learning. However, the students established that the family and the university environment were the socio-educational factors that most influence cultural knowledge acquisition. The study concluded that culture teaching was not prevalent in English language learning. Therefore, it will be essential that teachers use digital tools and implement activities that facilitate cultural teaching in the educational environment.El conocimiento de la cultura es fundamental para la adquisición de una lengua extranjera, lo cual le permite al estudiante el manejo correcto y el desarrollo de las cuatro habilidades del lenguaje durante el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje del idioma inglés como segunda lengua. Según diversos autores, existen varios factores que influyen en el proceso aprendizaje de una lengua extranjera, mismos que afectan a los estudiantes durante su adquisición. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar los factores socioeducativos que influyen en el intercambio cultural en la enseñanza-aprendizaje del idioma inglés como segunda lengua cómo mecanismo de interacción y familiarización en los estudiantes del 2do semestre “A” de la Carrera de Pedagogía de los idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros en la Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi. El tipo de investigación es teórica-exploratoria debido a que se utilizó investigaciones previas donde se manifiestan que aprender cultura es importante para el desarrollo del idioma inglés; es exploratorio porque el estudio es limitado en esta área de conocimiento lo cual lo convierte en un proyecto novedoso en el entorno educativo. El recurso de recolección de datos fue la encuesta aplicada a la muestra seleccionada conformada por 36 estudiantes del 2do semestre “A”. El análisis de los datos obtenidos determinó que aprender cultura es sustancial en el aprendizaje de un idioma. No obstante, los estudiantes establecieron que los factores socio-educativos que más influyen en la adquisición del conocimiento cultural son el entorno familiar y el entorno universitario. El estudio concluye que la enseñanza de la cultura no prevalece en el aprendizaje del idioma inglés. Por ello, es fundamental que los docentes utilicen herramientas digitales y apliquen actividades que faciliten la enseñanza cultural en el entorno educativo

The influence of consumerism on Spanish physical education teachers

Consumer culture and neoliberalism have significantly influenced contemporary globalised, Western(ised) and highly visual societies. These influences have also infiltrated physical education settings, contributing to market-driven surveillance of physical education teachers’ physical appearance. This paper examines the reflections of a group of physical education teachers working at the primary and secondary levels in Spain concerning subjectivities of bodies and professional practices. It draws on semi-structured interview data and the Foucauldian concepts of Panopticon and surveillance to explore the ways in which the participants were influenced by the market and neoliberalism. The results of the study invite us to reflect on how images and messages from media may promote certain expectations for physical education teachers concerning physical appearance, dress and sports supplements consumption. The findings have implications for teacher education and the preparation of physical education teachers to resist dominant discourses promoted by the media

Reproductive anatomy of staminate and pistillate flowers of Allophylus edulis (Sapindaceae)

Reproductive anatomy of staminate and pistillate flowers of Allophylus edulis (Sapindaceae). Sporogenesis and gametogenesis of staminate and pistillate flowers of Allophylus edulis (Sapindaceae) were studied. Young anthers are similar in both types of flowers, they share the basic type of antheral development; they consist of epidermis, endothecium, two middle layers and a secretory tapetum with binucleate cells. Microsporogenesis is normal, the division of pollen mother cells is simultaneous, and microspore tetrads are tetrahedral and decussate. The mature anther in staminate flowers presents epidermal cells thinned at stomio level, and endothecium cells with fibrillar thickenings. A single locule is formed in the theca by dissolution of the septum and pollen grains are two-celled when shed, these are triporate or tetraporate. The gynoecium is reduced to a tricarpelar, trilocular pistillode, with an ovule per locule. Ovule degeneration occurs before meiosis. The mature anthers of pistillate flowers differ anatomically from those of staminate flowers. The endothecium does not develop fibrillar thickenings, middle layers and tapetum generally are persisting, and the stomium is nonfunctional; anthers are indehiscent. The gynoecium in pistillate flowers, has a tricarpellary and trilocular ovary. Each locule contains an ovule hemianatropous, bitegmic and crassinucellate, with an obturator well developed, and the megagametophyte is of Polygonum type. Results are discussed in relation to the known to the familySe estudió la esporogénesis y gametogénesis de flores estaminadas y pistiladas de Allophylus edulis (Sapindaceae). La anteras jóvenes son similares en ambos tipos de flores, comparten el tipo básico de desarrollo anteral; presentan epidermis, endotecio con células binucleadas, dos capas medias, y tapete de tipo secretor, con células binucleadas. La microsporogénesis es normal, la división de las células madres de las micrósporas es simultánea y las tétrades son tetraédricas y decusadas. La antera madura en flores estaminadas presenta células epidérmicas adelgazadas a nivel del estomio y el endotecio con engrosamientos fibrosos. Se aprecia un único lóculo por teca por disolución del septo y los granos de polen son liberados al estado 2-celular, éstos son triporados o tetraporados. El gineceo está reducido a un pistilodio tricarpelar, trilocular, con un óvulo por lóculo. El óvulo degenera antes de que ocurra la meiosis. La antera madura de las flores pistiladas difiere anatómicamente de la de las flores estaminadas. El endotecio no desarrolla engrosamientos fibrosos, las capas medias y el tapete persisten, y el estomio no es funcional; las anteras son indehiscentes. El gineceo de las flores pistiladas, presentan ovario tricarpelar y trilocular. Cada lóculo contiene un óvulo hemianátropo, bitegumentado y crasinucelado, con obturador desarrollado; el megagametófito es de tipo Polygonum. Some constructions for the fractional Laplacian on noncompact manifolds

We give a de nition of the fractional Laplacian on some noncompact manifolds, through an extension problem introduced by Ca arelli-Silvestre. While this de nition in the compact case is straightforward, in the noncompact setting one needs to have a precise control of the behavior of the metric at in nity and geometry plays a crucial role. First we give explicit calculations in the hyperbolic space, including a formula for the kernel and a trace Sobolev inequality.
