Emerging trends on the topic of Information Technology in the field of Educational Sciences: a bibliometric exploration
The paper presents a bibliometric analysis on the topic of Information
Technology (IT) in the field of Educational Sciences, aimed at envisioning the
research emerging trends. The ERIC data base is used as a consultation source;
the results were subjected to productivity by authors, journals, and term
co-occurrence analysis indicators for the period 2009-2013. The productivity of
Computers & Education, and Turkish Online Journal of Educational
Technology-TOJET, as well as the preceding authors from Canada, have been
emphasized. The more used terms are the following: Information technology,
foreign countries, educational technology, technology integration, and student
attitudes. Researches performed here seem to have a largely qualitative
character, highlighting computers and internet as the mostly explored
technological objects. The largest subject matter trend refers to the
integration of IT in the higher education learning context, and its incidence
over the teaching methods

PPAR gamma pro12Ala polymorphism and type 2 diabetes: a study in a spanish cohort
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a disease whose occurrence is increasing prevalent in westernized civilizations and is responsible for the proliferation in the morbidity and total mortality of patients with cardiovascular diseases, worldwide. However, the complexity in the treatment and prevention of T2D arises from the intricacy of the many physical and biological factors involved in its etiology. Impaired pathways for insulin signaling have been implicated as one the many factors in the development of T2D Individual peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) have previously exhibited associations with alterations of lipid profiles, fat tissue and T2D and displayed complications derived from high levels of glucose. However, PPARgamma has not yet been associated with the development or developmental pathways of T2D. We performed an observational study a Spanish cohort in order to better understand the association between the SNP PPARgamma polymorphism Pro12Ala in our patients and the incidence of T2D and other cardiovascular complications. We study did not find a statistically significant relationship between the Pro12Ala and T2D development in our cohort, future observations will help us to know the association with vascular disease in patients with T2D
Spider diversity (Arachnida: Araneae) in Atlantic Forest areas at Pedra Branca State Park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
BACKGROUND: There has never been any published work about the diversity of spiders in the city of Rio de Janeiro using analytical tools to measure diversity. The only available records for spider communities in nearby areas indicate 308 species in the National Park of Tijuca and 159 species in Marapendi Municipal Park. These numbers are based on a rapid survey and on an one-year survey respectively. NEW INFORMATION: This study provides a more thorough understanding of how the spider species are distributed at Pedra Branca State Park. We report a total of 14,626 spider specimens recorded from this park, representing 49 families and 373 species or morphospecies, including at least 73 undescribed species. Also, the distribution range of 45 species was expanded, and species accumulation curves estimate that there is a minimum of 388 (Bootstrap) and a maximum of 468 species (Jackknife2) for the sampled areas. Shot-noise anomalies in nondegenerate elastic diffusive conductors
We present a theoretical investigation of shot-noise properties in
nondegenerate elastic diffusive conductors. Both Monte Carlo simulations and
analytical approaches are used. Two new phenomena are found: (i) the display of
enhanced shot noise for given energy dependences of the scattering time, and
(ii) the recovery of full shot noise for asymptotic high applied bias. The
first phenomenon is associated with the onset of negative differential
conductivity in energy space that drives the system towards a dynamical
electrical instability in excellent agreement with analytical predictions. The
enhancement is found to be strongly amplified when the dimensionality in
momentum space is lowered from 3 to 2 dimensions. The second phenomenon is due
to the suppression of the effects of long range Coulomb correlations that takes
place when the transit time becomes the shortest time scale in the system, and
is common to both elastic and inelastic nondegenerate diffusive conductors.
These phenomena shed new light in the understanding of the anomalous behavior
of shot noise in mesoscopic conductors, which is a signature of correlations

Geometrical resonance in spatiotemporal systems
We generalize the concept of geometrical resonance to perturbed sine-Gordon,
Nonlinear Schrödinger and Complex Ginzburg-Landau equations. Using this
theory we can control different dynamical patterns. For instance, we can
stabilize breathers and oscillatory patterns of large amplitudes successfully
avoiding chaos. On the other hand, this method can be used to suppress
spatiotemporal chaos and turbulence in systems where these phenomena are
already present. This method can be generalized to even more general

Quantum Spin Dynamics with Pairwise-Tunable, Long-Range Interactions
We present a platform for the simulation of quantum magnetism with full
control of interactions between pairs of spins at arbitrary distances in one-
and two-dimensional lattices. In our scheme, two internal atomic states
represent a pseudo-spin for atoms trapped within a photonic crystal waveguide
(PCW). With the atomic transition frequency aligned inside a band gap of the
PCW, virtual photons mediate coherent spin-spin interactions between lattice
sites. To obtain full control of interaction coefficients at arbitrary
atom-atom separations, ground-state energy shifts are introduced as a function
of distance across the PCW. In conjunction with auxiliary pump fields,
spin-exchange versus atom-atom separation can be engineered with arbitrary
magnitude and phase, and arranged to introduce non-trivial Berry phases in the
spin lattice, thus opening new avenues for realizing novel topological spin
models. We illustrate the broad applicability of our scheme by explicit

Emergence and persistence of communities in coevolutionary networks
We investigate the emergence and persistence of communities through a
recently proposed mechanism of adaptive rewiring in coevolutionary networks. We
characterize the topological structures arising in a coevolutionary network
subject to an adaptive rewiring process and a node dynamics given by a simple
voterlike rule. We find that, for some values of the parameters describing the
adaptive rewiring process, a community structure emerges on a connected
network. We show that the emergence of communities is associated to a decrease
in the number of active links in the system, i.e. links that connect two nodes
in different states. The lifetime of the community structure state scales
exponentially with the size of the system. Additionally, we find that a small
noise in the node dynamics can sustain a diversity of states and a community
structure in time in a finite size system. Thus, large system size and/or local
noise can explain the persistence of communities and diversity in many real
