Factores asociados a una evaluación académica en la enseñanza de matemática: herramienta estratégica para incrementar la calidad de la enseñanza y el aprendizaje

La problemática del bajo rendimiento en los cursos de matemática de la Escuela de Administración y Contaduría en la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Sociales de la Universidad Central de Venezuela (4 de cada 10 estudiantes aprueban los cursos), es la razón principal para proponer una investigación que evalúe aspectos críticos para alertar a estudiantes, profesores y autoridades universitarias sobre posibles deficiencias en los conocimientos y destrezas matemáticas de los estudiantes del ciclo básico de la carrera y proponer medidas que contribuyan a subsanar dichas fallas y en consecuencia a mejorar algunas variables que inciden en la calidad del proceso enseñanza-aprendizaje. Esta investigación guarda una estrecha relación con un conjunto de características que van desde la formación del docente hasta el uso de la tecnología en el aula

Comprensión de la aplicación del álgebra de matrices en la resolución de problemas económicos

Si consideramos que el trabajo de un docente exige una preparación para cada clase, desarrollada bajo la premisa ¿entenderá el alumno si explico de esta manera...? esta experiencia significa para él, una investigación sobre la cual regresará tantas veces como oportunidades tenga para presentar nuevamente el tema. En nuestra búsqueda del día a día nos hemos planteado una preocupación muy específica al pretender enseñar Operaciones Algebraicas con Matrices, donde los estudiantes rápidamente captan la secuencia lógica para realizar operaciones, pero en la que demuestran que prefieren los procesos repetitivos y cuando se les pide analizar la información, se confunden y ofrecen opiniones equivocadas. El punto que nos ocupa en este trabajo es el título señalado anteriormente, Operaciones Algebraicas con Matrices, el cual forma parte del Tema I de la materia Matemática III en la carrera de Administración y Contaduría de la Universidad Central de Venezuela. Por la naturaleza de la formación que damos a nuestros estudiantes, la aplicación práctica de esta Unidad está dirigida a la resolución de problemas de índole económica estudiados en este nivel de la carrera, que suele ser el tercer semestre, de los diez que deben aprobar. En este trabajo se explican algunas estrategias puestas en práctica con significativo éxito, después de una revisión del material bibliográfico recomendado hasta el momento y, posteriormente a ensayar las técnicas o métodos encontrados en dicho material y revisadas —en algunos casos modificadas— por nuestra experiencia

Estudiantes de alta repitencia en matemática. Un plan de superación

Cuando hablamos de eficiencia en el trabajo educativo nos enfrentamos al estudio de múltiples variables: número de estudiantes aprobados, calificaciones promedio, proporción de retiro o abandono de un curso, uso de recursos económicos, entre otros. Al consultar la opinión de los docentes de Matemática en la Universidad, sobre el bajo rendimiento estudiantil en la asignatura, las explicaciones apuntan, en una significativa mayoría, a señalar como responsables, las fallas que el alumno arrastra desde su proceso de aprendizaje en Educación Media. Este documento registra los resultados de una investigación donde el estudio, la dedicación y sobre todo la voluntad permite acercarnos a una experiencia exitosa para recuperar a los estudiantes de bajo rendimiento o de alta repitencia en Matemática

Proposal of a dynamic performance index to analyze driving pattern effect on car emissions

The contributions of driver behaviour as well as surrounding infrastructure are decisive on pollutant emissions from vehicles in real traffic situations. This article deals with the preliminary study of the interaction between the dynamic variables recorded in a vehicle (driving pattern) and pollutant emissions produced over a given urban route. It has been established a “dynamic performance index”-DPI, which is calculated from some driving pattern parameters, which in turn depends on traffic congestion level and route characteristics, in order to determine whether the driving has been aggressive, normal or calm. Two passenger cars instrumented with a portable activity measurement system -to record dynamic variables- and on-board emission measurement equipment have been used. This study has shown that smooth driving patterns can reduce up to 80% NOX emissions and up to 20% of fuel in the same rout

Ethnography inquiry and teacher education. The use of diaries for the comprehension of educational practice

We present in this communication a work of inquiry carried our using the diaries of students participating an educational experience in a primary school. Along a semester, a group of 10 students was workomg with a community learning project. These students were engaged with a teacher training experience which is being developed in the Education College at the University of Málaga. In this experience some teacher students attended two subjects of his education as collaborators in this school. His experience was collected systematically in field diaries in which they reflected their everyday experience in the school, as well as his insights, assessments, feelings, etc. These diaries become into the working material to study the school functioning and their experience. For that reason, working meetings were held with teachers of their subjects at the university. Collaboratively, diaries were analyzed, categorized and interpreted in an attempt to understand the school practice, and thus, progress their training process.Universidad de Málaga. Experiences from the academic training. Study about the identity of the novice teacher, second part.

We present some progresses of the current research project we are developing called "The professional identity of teacher studies”. It aims to analyse the training received by students in the faculties of education in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, especially in the degrees of pre-school education and primary education. To that effect we enquiry about the influence of the experience as school student in their training and what kind of professional identity they are generating along the formation period and after five years of activity as teachers. How Do Acoustic Materials Work?

Acoustic quality of closed spaces is an increasing concern all around the world, since noise pollution is one of the main nowadays pollutants, but also one of the less considered when building designing and construction. In 2011, the World Health Organization stated that noise pollution should be treated as a public health concern: about 1 million years of human healthy life are lost yearly because of the environmental noise pollution, emphasizing on traffic noise in the cities. There are some physics phenomena that are the rule of thumb for room acoustic projects. This chapter introduces the main concepts about them: sound absorption, insulation, and diffusion. Discurso, opinión y episteme. Los inmigrantes y la COVID-19 en la prensa chilena

In the current democratic societies, the media, known as “the fourth power” and that are generally incharge of the local elites, have achieved a crucial role in the naturalization of discourses in the communityhaving the capacity to even influence the public opinion in political, social, religious and economicareas, among others. Being the problem of study the influence that the expression of a certain type ofdiscourse has over its receivers, the goal of this article is to reflect about the link between the discourse,the public opinion and the press epistemology regarding the immigration in Chile during COVID-19times. The results from the examination of eleven newspapers employing a Critical Discourse Analysisapproach inform us that, on the one side, the actors such as authorities are nominalized, whereas the foreigners are assimilated in a group or invisibilized altogether. On the other hand, the themes that emergefrom the data analysis are poverty, vulnerability and discrimination. This study aims at problematizingthe discourses that come from the press from a critical perspective in order to contribute to the dialogicalconstruction of the other from an objective point of view away from preconceived and stigmatized viewsspread by the media.  En las sociedades democráticas actuales, los medios de prensa, conocidos como “el cuarto poder” y quegeneralmente están a cargo de las elites locales, han adquirido un rol fundamental en la naturalizaciónde discursos en la comunidad ejerciendo la fuerza de incluso influenciar a la opinión pública en temaspolíticos, sociales, religiosos y económicos, entre otros. Siendo el problema de estudio la influenciaque la emisión de cierto tipo de discurso tiene sobre el receptor de este, el objetivo de este artículo esreflexionar acerca del vínculo existente entre el discurso, la opinión pública y epistemología de la prensaescrita en torno a la migración en tiempos de COVID-19 en Chile. Los resultados de la observación deonce diarios por medio del Análisis Crítico del Discurso arrojan que, por un lado, los actores tales comoautoridades son nominalizados, mientras que los extranjeros son asimilados a un grupo o invisibilizadoscompletamente. Por otro lado, los temas que emergen del análisis son la pobreza, la vulnerabilidad y ladiscriminación. Este estudio apunta a problematizar los discursos que provienen de los medios escritosdesde una perspectiva crítica y a contribuir a una construcción dialógica del otro de forma objetiva alejadade visiones preconcebidas y estigmatizadoras difundidas por los medios de comunicación

Influence of the stop/start system on CO2 emissions of a diesel vehicle in urban traffic

This paper presents measurements of CO2 emission and efficiency of stop/start technology on a diesel vehicle in urban traffic. Two four-wheel-drive diesel vehicles with on-board exhaust emission and vehicle activity measurement systems were tested in two urban driving circuits representative of downtown Madrid. The vehicles had similar turbocharged and intercooled diesel engines fulfilling the same Euro 4 emissions regulation; but one had an improved engine incorporating stop/start technology. CO2 emission reduction of more than 20% for the car equipped with the stop/start system was obtained. Regardless of the variability in driving style, the grade and type of streets, traffic congestion, and the engine operating temperature, the car equipped with the stop/start system has intrinsically a lower CO2 emission factor
