    Get PDF
Purpose – The paper aims to introduce social marketing (SM) as a tool to overcome the low cultural participation, a problem of the arts and culture sector that has worsened in the post-pandemic scenario. Design/methodology/approach – The study uses a multidisciplinary literature review (SM, museum marketing, museology and cultural policy) to address the problem of museums and other cultural heritage institutions, at both the macro-level (prevailing cultural policies and antecedents, barriers and consequences to cultural participation) and micro-level (challenges faced by museums in the 21st century and marketing as a management instrument). Findings – The downstream, midstream and upstream approaches can be used to design and implement SM interventions intended to address the problem of low cultural participation in museums. The three approaches should be considered holistically, with their synergetic andrecursive effects. Research limitations/implications – Due to its introductory and conceptual nature, the study provides a comprehensive intervention framework to be used as a platform for future theoretical and empirical research. Further investigations may expand on the specificities of each approach (down, mid and upstream) and extend the framework to other nonprofit cultural institutions beyond museums, such as libraries and archives, cultural heritage sites and theater, music and dance companies.Practical implications – The paper proposes a comprehensive SM intervention framework thatintegrates three interdependent approaches (downstream, midstream and upstream). Originality/value – The paper provides a starting point for the holistic application of SM in the arts and culture sector. It also encourages researchers, cultural policymakers and cultural heritage professionals to investigate, design and implement SM programs that better understand, expand and diversify the audience and strengthen the legitimacy and relevance of cultural actors and activities to transform them into inclusive, accessible and sustainable institution

Islam constantly calls for peace and togetherness, even condemning violence and terror. However, the charge against Islam as a terrorism ideology is a very heartbreaking thing for the (Muslim) community. However, it can not be denied that there is a tendency in understanding the Qur’an and hadith textually and literally an sich that can lead to behavior that seems anarchist, intolerant, and tend to destructive. Jihad teachings, for example, are often misunderstood as justification for actions and propaganda, radical acts, bombings and terrorism. Seeing the reality that happens, is a necessity to provide a correct understanding of Islam. As a first step, it is necessary to comprehend a comprehensive methodology in understanding nash.

The CIAM has been established as a forum for the discussion and dissemination of new ideas on urbanism since the end of the 1920s. Modernists believed that the city design would promote a more equal world and that the urban structure could be shaped rationally and functionally so as to reach social well-being. However, the schematism and excessive rationalization that conceived standard housing as having no relation to the identity of the dwellers caused a lot of critique by the younger generations within the CIAM itself. Team 10 sought to retrieve concepts of the traditional city and create a greater sense of community and identity, a construction of more immediate relationships between the family nucleus and the social group, between the residence and the collective spaces. This article is a reflection on the circulation of these “universal” ideas and their local applications focusing on a housing community in the city of Pelotas. That urbanization project shaped in the 1980s is a rich example for study because in it one can identify the presence of the different views of the city in the 20th century. The CIAM principles were present at the moment of its conception, but they were already “contaminated” by the critique of the functionalist city after World War II. This legacy, viz. the Team 10 legacy, has enabled the transformation of the housing community into a “neighborhood” full of intense urban animation, and this can be noticed in the “spontaneous city” that began to be built soon after the urbanization process started.

In 1938, Fernando Corona, working for the construction company Azevedo Moura & Gertum, designs the Palace of Commerce in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, the new headquarters of the Commercial Association. The building, the highest in the city, is undoubtedly a modern, innovative one and is acclaimed as such. In this project Corona consolidates the architectural principles which were dear to him. As a renewing architect, he uses a language of pure forms and surfaces denuded of ornament. As a conservative architect, he does not give up the timeless principles, the perfect balance of symmetry, the propriety of the urban decorum. The idea of rationalism, a common base of all modern architecture, is used in this study as an indicator for the understanding of the architect’s work and of the “pragmatic modernity” of architecture in general, which is indicated in historiography as a manifestation of non-radical renewal, different from avant-garde modernity. Being pragmatic, without the need for discourse, this architecture renews but always keeps something familiar, something which does not need to be explained, which is already part of an understanding shared by a culture. Keywords: architect Fernando Corona, modern architecture, Palace of Commerce in Pelotas.

Although it has a wide distribution in the country, the Azure Gallinule (Porphyrio flavirostris) has become rare in the southern region, due to the drainage of wetlands, implementation of hydroelectric reservoirs and the reduction of surrounding forests. Through the inventory carried out in the municipality of Capanema, field trips in Francisco Alves and Foz do Iguaçu in humid areas with a predominance of seasonal semideciduous forest, individuals of P. flavirostris were registered in October 2019, December 2020 and January 2021 on the floating vegetation. This work communicates new records of the species in the state of Paraná and makes a brief contribution about its conservation status.
