Topologically massive nonabelian BF models in arbitrary space-time dimensions
This work extends to the D-dimensional space-time the topological mass
generation mechanism of the nonabelian BF model in four dimensions. In order to
construct the gauge invariant nonabelian kinetic terms for a (D-2)-form B and a
1-form A, we introduce an auxiliary (D-3)-form V. Furthermore, we obtain a
complete set of BRST and anti-BRST transformation rules of the fields using the
so called horizontality condition, and construct a BRST/anti-BRST invariant
quantum action for the model in D-dimensional space-time.Comment: 7 page
Visualization of neural activity of forager honeybee brain by IEGs
We assessed bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition in children with Noonan's syndrome (NS) before and during growth hormone (GH) treatment. Sixteen children (12 boys, 4 girls) with NS aged 5.8-14.2 (mean 10.0) years were studied for 2 years. Anthropometry, BMD measurements by radiographic absorptiometry and bioimpedance measurements (Akern-BIA 101/S) were performed at baseline and after 3, 6, 12 and 24 months. Daily GH dosage was 0.05 mg/kg. Trabecular volumetric BMD was normal; cortical BMD was in the lower normal range at baseline and slightly increased over the 2 years. Fat free mass and total body water were below normal at the start and increased significantly over the first 3 months, with a slight increment thereafter. Percentage fat mass decreased over the first 6 months and increased thereafter. These findings are comparable to the data on body composition in short normal children and girls with Turner's syndrome treated with GH
Antisymmetric Tensor Fields in Randall Sundrum Thick Branes
In this article we study the issue of localization of the three-form field in
a Randall-Sundrum-like scenario. We simulate our membrane by kinks embedded in
D=5, describing the usual case (not deformed) and new models coming from a
specific deformation procedure. The gravitational background regarded includes
the dilaton contribution. We show that we can only localize the zero-mode of
this field for a specific range of the dilaton coupling, even in the deformed
case. A study about resonances is presented. We use a numerical approach for
calculations of the transmission coefficients associated to the quantum
mechanical problem. This gives a clear description of the physics involved in
the model. We find in this way that the appearance of resonances is strongly
dependent on the coupling constant. We study the cases and 5 for
and . The first value of give us one
resonance peak for and no resonances for . The second value of
give us a very rich structure of resonances, with number deppending on
the value of .Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
Spontaneous effort causes occult Pendelluft during mechanical ventilation
In the injured lung, local negative pleural pressure generated by diaphragmatic contraction is not uniformly transmitted, but is concentrated in dependent lung. This causes Pendelluft (using EIT), with shift of air from non-dependent to dependent lung regions. Thus, during lung-protective ventilation with strictly limited tidal volume, the presence of strong inspiratory effort can result in a hidden, local over-stretch of the dependent lung
