Decay properties of new D-mesons
We consider radiative and pionic decays of the new D_s-mesons in the
framework of a phenomenologically motivated approach. Present data on ratios of
the two kinds of decays can be described without explicit using a 4-quark
component. Most probably, the isospin violation in decays of different
D_s-mesons is not universal, and the binding potential should be different from
Coulombic. New precise measurements may provide further clarification for the
nature of the D_s excited states.Comment: 12 pages, Late
Compact 85 fs frequency doubled 810 nm fiber system with 60 mW of average power
We demonstrate a sub-100 fs frequency doubled fiber laser operating at 810 nm. The laser produces 60 mW of average power at a repetition rate of 50 MHz. Extremely low amplitude noise (below 0.1%) and compact size makes this source ideal replacement for low power ultrafast Ti:Spphire lasers
Entrepreneurship and small business development in small islands
This paper reviews the limited literature on successful small business and entrepreneurship in
small islands, with a focus on Pacific and European research. It argues that the notable specific contribution of
this collection is its focus on tangible examples of successful island entrepreneurship, and the specific challenges
towards entrepreneurship faced by island people. This approach is micro-oriented and very close to the actual
human entrepreneurs that lead and shine by example. This is contrary to much received wisdom, which tends to
be overshadowed by macro-structural and institutional approaches that emphasize chronic vulnerability.peer-reviewe

Determination of the hydrodynamic performance of marine propellers using fibre Bragg gratings
Downloading of the abstract is permitted for personal use only. A critical aspect in the design of marine propellers is their hydrodynamic performance which, when evaluated experimentally, requires a number of parameters to be monitored at the same time, i.e.The thrust and torque a propeller generates as well as the propeller shaft and vessel speed. In this investigation, three of those parameters are measured using Fibre Bragg Grating-based sensors, thus allowing for computationally derived performance values to be verified. For that purpose, open water tests were carried out where an instrumented propeller shaft was installed into a research vessel and measurements taken, evaluated and the results compared favorably with advanced computer-based simulations
