Quantitative detection of Porphyromonas gingivalis fimA genotypes in dental plaque
We developed quantitative fimA genotype assays and applied them in a pilot study investigating the fimbrial genotype distribution of Porphyromonas gingivalis in European subjects with or without chronic periodontitis. P. gingivalis was found in 71% and 9% of the samples from patients and healthy subjects, respectively. Enumeration of total P. gingivalis cell numbers by polymerase chain reaction and immunofluorescence showed excellent correspondence (r=0.964). 73% of positive samples contained multiple fimA genotypes, but generally one genotype predominated by one to three orders of magnitude. Genotype II predominated in 60% of the samples. Genotype IV occurred with similar prevalence (73%) as genotype II but predominated in only 20% of the samples. Genotypes I, III and V were of much lower prevalence and cell densities of the latter two remained sparse. Our results suggest marked differences among the fimA genotypes' ability to colonize host sites with high cell number
In vitro quantitative light-induced fluorescence to measure changes in enamel mineralization
A sensitive, quantitative method for investigating changes in enamel mineralization of specimens subjected to in vitro or in situ experimentation is presented. The fluorescence-detecting instrument integrates a Xenon arc light source and an object positioning stage, which makes it particularly suitable for the nondestructive assessment of demineralized or remineralized enamel. We demonstrate the ability of in vitro quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF) to quantify changes in mineralization of bovine enamel discs that had been exposed in vitro to a demineralizing gel (n=36) or biofilm-mediated demineralization challenges (n=10), or were carried in situ by three volunteers during a 10-day experiment (n=12). Further experiments show the technique's value for monitoring the extent of remineralization in 36 specimens exposed in vitro to oral multispecies biofilms and document the repeatability of in vitro QLF measurements (n=10) under standardized assay conditions. The validity of the method is illustrated by comparison with transversal microradiography (TMR), the invasive current gold standard for assessing experimental changes in enamel mineralization. Ten discs with 22 measurement areas for comparison demonstrated a positive correlation between TMR and QLF (r=0.82). Filling a technological gap, this QLF system is a promising tool to assay in vitro nondestructively localized changes in mineralization of enamel specimen
Heteronormativity in Norwegian Social Work Journals
The purpose of this review was to examine whether heteronormativity is reproduced or problematized within Norwegian social work journals. It is based on a study that explored how sexuality is addressed in social work journal articles and extends past reviews by also analysing heterosexuality. The data comprised of 572 articles published in the major Norwegian social work journals between 2002 and 2014. A keyword search and a thematic analysis was used to first determine how many articles addressed sexuality and second to develop a closer analysis of how sexuality was addressed in the identified articles. Queer theory guided the analysis. Findings revealed that heteronormativity was problematized in five of the six (1%) articles that addressed sexuality, indicating that heteronormativity is reproduced in Norwegian social work journalsandthat those in position in authority in the field of social work routinely deploy heterosexuality as a taken-for-granted resource. If power asymmetries are to be destabilized, strategies that counteract the power basis of the hegemonic norm are necessary, such as addressing the binary opposition of heterosexuality vs. non-heterosexuality, and naming heterosexuality
SIMLA module SimVis - User Guide
This report contains a guide on how to set up and use the SimVis module in context of the SIMLA program system. The guide covers how to generate a SimVis terrain database with SIM Scenery Creator and how to set up and use the SimVis module, both standalone and as a 3D visualization tool for viewing of results from SIMLA analyses.SIMLA module SimVis - User GuidepublishedVersio
'Exploring Heteronormativity': A teaching programme to develop experience-based knowledge of the reproduction of power asymmetries
Social workers have a mandate to reduce discrimination and oppression.
However, training for social workers does little to equip candidates with
knowledge of power structures, such as gender and sexuality. The
purpose of this article is to show how social work students in a
teaching programme, ‘Exploring Heteronormativity’, gain personal
experience of how power asymmetries are reproduced. Central to the
programme is a pedagogical fieldwork activity whereby the students
break the tacit norm of heterosexuality by acting as same-sex couples
in the cityscape. The students experienced various marginalising actions
during the activity. This teaching programme has been conducted nine
times with students in the bachelor’s and master’s degree social work
programmes at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, in the 2013–2019
period. The article argues for increased application of power-critical
theory, and for social work education to ensure that students gain firsthand experience of how power asymmetries are reproduced. In
conclusion, recommendations are given for the education of social
workers
Various close relationships for lesbian women in 1986 and 2005
Source at http://www.ejhs.org/volume11/giertsen.htm.This work explored various close relationships (romantic relationships and motherhood) as this relates to historical time period. Two national samples of self-identified lesbian women aged 20 to 49 years in Norway were compared, one from 1986 (n = 123) and one from 2005 (n = 236). Data were collected through mailed questionnaires. No time-period effects were identified regarding lesbians' relationships with women and steady relationships with men. The same proportion had children in 2005 as in 1986. The overall results may reflect stability in social structuring forces in lesbian life in the last two decades

Tid for endring!
