Business intelligence in the electrical power industry

Nowadays, the electrical power industry has gained tremendous interest from both entrepreneurs and researchers due to its essential roles in everyday life. However, the current sources for generating electricity are astonishing decreasing, which leads to more challenges for the power industry. Based on the viewpoint of sustainable development, the solution should maintain three layers of economically, ecologically, and society; simultaneously, support business decision-making, increases organizational productivity and operational energy efficiency. In the smart and innovative technology context, business intelligence solution is considered as a potential option in the data-rich environment, which is still witnessed disjointed theoretical progress. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a systematic literature review and build a body of knowledge related to business intelligence in the electrical power sector. The author also built an integrative framework displaying linkages between antecedents and outcomes of business intelligence in the electrical power industry. Finally, the paper depicted the underexplored areas of the literature and shed light on the research objectives in terms of theoretical and practical implications

Selective shunting with eversion carotid endarterectomy

AbstractPurposeThe consensus is that eversion carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is a safe, effective, and durable surgical technique. Concern remains, however, regarding insertion of a shunt during the procedure. We studied the advisability of shunting with eversion CEA by comparing patients who underwent eversion CEA with and without shunting.MethodsOver 9 years, 624 primary eversion CEAs were performed in 580 selected patients to treat symptomatic (n = 398, 63.8%) and asymptomatic (n = 226, 36.2%) carotid lesions. All eversion CEAs were performed by the same surgeon (E.B.), with the patient under deep general anesthesia, with continuous electroencephalographic (EEG) monitoring for selective shunting, based exclusively on EEG changes consistent with cerebral ischemia. A Pruitt-Inahara shunt was used in 43 eversion CEAs (6.9%). All patients underwent postoperative duplex ultrasound scanning and clinical follow-up at 1, 6, and 12 months and once a year thereafter. Mean follow-up was 52 months (range, 3-91 months). The main end points were perioperative (30-day) stroke and death, and recurrent stenosis.ResultsNo perioperative death occurred in this series. Overall, ischemic perioperative stroke occurred in 4 of 624 patients (0.6%). Two strokes were minor and two were major. Only one (major) stroke occurred in the group with shunt insertion (1 of 43, 2.3%; P = not significant); the everted internal carotid artery was patent. Long-term follow-up was performed in all living patients. There was no late recurrent stenosis (>50%), and one late asymptomatic occlusive event occurred in the group without shunt insertion.ConclusionsShunt insertion can be safely performed during eversion CEA. Perioperative mortality and morbidity after eversion CEA are not statistically modified with shunting

Indagine floristica e vegetazionale sullo stagno di Platamona (Sardegna Nord-occidentale)

Platamona pond is the object of the present study. Platamona pond is a coastal fresh water pond situated in N.W. Sardinia. Concerning the flore the presence of Utricularia vulgaris L. was revealed; it is the first pointing out of this species in Sardinia. Vegetation analisis, carried out by the fitosociological method, put in evidence the presence of three association: Phragmitetum communis Pignatti, 1935; Scirpo-Phragmitetum mediterraneum Tx. et Preising, 1942, Cladietum marisci Zobrist, 1935; Spatial distribution of the above association is showed in a vegetation chart. Comparing with the present one a 1962 flore and vegetation study of the same pond it was noted that no sostanzial modification of the vegetation disposition took place during the late twenty three years. This is noteworthy because this area is subject to a strong antropic pressure

The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. Una peculiar visión del derecho. ¿y si por unos minutos nos apartamos de Kant y nos aproximamos a Nietzsche?

This work presents reflections on the connection between law and sociology, ethics, morality, religion, literature and philosophy; and links legal concepts— assumed a priori—in their non-philosophical meaning. Raising questions de rived from other branches of human knowledge will allow us to assume and understand the multidisciplinary nature of law, starting from legal situations contrasted with the eminently sociological field. Likewise, we will reflect on religious, moral and ethical issues, in the light of philosophy that questions everything —especially a Nietzschean vision— and from the perspective of literature, which addresses everything.El presente trabajo expone reflexiones sobre la vinculación entre el derecho con la sociología, la ética, la moral, la religión, la literatura y la filosofía; y en laza los conceptos jurídicos —asumidos a priori— en su acepción no filosófica. Plantear cuestionamientos derivados de otras ramas del saber humano nos permitirá asumir y entender el carácter multidisciplinario del derecho, par tiendo de situaciones jurídicas que se contrastan con el campo eminentemente sociológico.
