Synthesis of both enantiomers of akolactone B and (+)-ancepsenolide

The syntheses of (+)- and (−)-akolactone B and (+)-ancepsenolide were accomplished using a Pd-catalyzed carbonylation. As to the absolute configuration of akolactone B, making a comparison of the specific rotation of both enantiomers of synthetic akolactone B and the natural compound suggests that the absolute configuration at the 4-position of akolactone B is (R).ArticleTETRAHEDRON-ASYMMETRY. 25(20-21):1367-1371 (2014)journal articl

Estimation of Effective Permeability for Dumbbell-Shaped Magnetic Cores

    Get PDF
The objective of this paper is to provide suitable approximations of effective permeability for magnetic concentration cores. This core has a dumbbell shape so that the magnetic flux is concentrated to the coil winding part of the core. It is well known that the demagnetizing factor strongly depends on the core shape, which defines the effective permeability. Although several researchers have already proposed an approximation for a dumbbell-shaped core, they did not take into account the flange part length. In this paper, a novel approximation for a dumbbell-shaped core is proposed. It is based on the demagnetizing factor and correction terms related to the aspect ratio of both the flange and coil winding part. From experimental results, the validity of the approximation is confirmed.ArticleIEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MAGNETICS. 51(1):4000304 (2015)journal articl

Understanding User Behavior on Online Music Distribution Sites: A Discourse Approach

    Get PDF
We analyze user behavior on two music distribution websites, SoundCloud.com and Last.fm, using a computer-mediated discourse analysis approach. The broad goal is to infer patterns of use that can inform the development of system/site designs to facilitate communication among online users. The specific goal is to analyze the actions users perform through comments posted to the sites. Based on a manually-coded sample of 49,324 comments, we address two research questions: What are the most common speech acts used in comments on the music distribution sites, and how, if at all, do design differences – between the two sites and between the two commenting modes available on SoundCloud – affect speech act use? From these comparisons, we identify site purpose (SoundCloud as a music sharing site, Last.fm as a music streaming site) and commenting mode (regular vs. timed comments) as important factors that contribute to the characteristics of user comments, and suggest implications of these findings for the design of music distribution sites.ye

Modeling realistic Earth matter density for CP violation in neutrino oscillation

We examine the effect of a more realistic Earth matter density model which takes into account of the local density variations along the baseline of a possi ble 2100 km very long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. Its influence to the measurement of CP violation is investigated and a comparison with the commonly used global density models made. Significant differences are found in the comparison of the results of the different density models.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figure
