The mechanism for the poly-condensation event of conjugated polymers with ending 4-hydroxycoumarin has been proposed. It happened under H2SO4 acidic conditions only using enolic-coumarins without any substituent at third position. It was studied using Matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-Tof) mass spectrometry. Besides, some physicochemical properties were analyzed using Thermo-gravimetric (TGA), X-ray and UV-Vis analysis.Fil: Garro, Hugo Alejandro

    Get PDF
Background: The discovery of new chemotherapeutic agents still remains a continuous goal to achieve. DNA polymerases and topoisomerases act in nucleic acids metabolism modulating different processes like replication, mitosis, damage repair, DNA topology and transcription. It has been widely documented that Polymerases serve as molecular targets for antiviral and antitumoral chemotherapy. Furthermore, telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein with exacerbated activity in most of the tumor cell lines, becoming as an emergent target in Cancer treatment. Methods: We undertook an exhaustive search of bibliographic databases for peer-reviewed research literature related to the last decade. The characteristics of screened bibliography describe structure activity relationships and show the principal moieties involved. This work tries to summarize the investigation about natural and semi-synthetic products with natural origin with the faculty to inhibit key enzymes that play a crucial role in DNA metabolism. Results: Eighty-five data references were included in this review, showing natural products widely distributed throughout the plant kingdom and their bioactive properties such as tumor growing inhibitory effects, and anti-AIDS activity. Conclusion: The findings of this review confirm the importance to find new drugs and biologically active natural products, and their potential medicinally useful benefits.Fil: Garro, Hugo Alejandro. Increasing the Resilience of Cyber Physical Systems in Smart Grid Environments using Dynamic Cells

    Get PDF
Resilience is an important system property that relies on the ability of a system to automatically recover from a degraded state so as to continue providing its services. Resilient systems have the means of detecting faults and failures with the added capability of automatically restoring their normal operations. Mastering resilience in the domain of Cyber-Physical Systems is challenging due to the interdependence of hybrid hardware and software components, along with physical limitations, laws, regulations and standards, among others. In order to overcome these challenges, this paper presents a modeling approach, based on the concept of Dynamic Cells, tailored to the management of Smart Grids. Additionally, a heuristic algorithm that works on top of the proposed modeling approach, to find resilient configurations, has been defined and implemented. More specifically, the model supports a flexible representation of Smart Grids and the algorithm is able to manage, at different abstraction levels, the resource consumption of individual grid elements on the presence of failures and faults. Finally, the proposal is evaluated in a test scenario where the effectiveness of such approach, when dealing with complex scenarios where adequate solutions are difficult to find, is shown

Enzymatic unhairing: Permeability assay of bovine skin epidermis with fungal enzyme extracts

    Get PDF
The aim of enzymatic unhairing is to allow the separation of the outer sheath of hair root from the dermal connective tissue. This is considered an ecofriendly process. It?s not expensive since if the enzymes are applied on the epidermis thereby surface extracts could be saved. The purpose of this work was to analyze the changes in pilosebaceus unit and basal lamina by unhairing enzyme action. Various keratinolytic fungi, previously isolated and selected from different soil samples were used: Neurospora crassa, Verticillum albo-atrum, Trichophyton ajelloi, Chrysosporium sp, Aspergillus sydowii, Paecilomyces lilacinus and Acremonium murorum. Fungal isolates were cultivated in solid state conditions using hair waste obtained from the hair-saving unhairing process as substrate. Enzyme extracts were characterized according to their keratinolytic-proteolytic activity and protein content. Bovine skins were placed in plastic plates where the epidermis contacted with different solutions: fungal enzyme extracts with commercial tensioactives (0.1%, 0.5%), biocide 0.2% w/w (wet skin) for 4 h (soaking) and 24 h (unhairing) at 25°C and 40 rpm. Samples of skin with and without enzymatic treatment were fixed in 4% formaldehyde, dried on increasing concentration of ethanol and analyzed with scanning electron microscopy. It was observed that the enzymes altered the epidermis, caused detachment of corneocytes and the emptying of hair follicles. Characteristic patterns of hair cuticle and collagen fibres were preserved in skin control with buffer. Trichophyton ajelloi caused the strongest depilatory effect . It was concluded that the enzyme penetration through epidermis could be employed for the application of reagents during the handcrafted tanning of leather.Fil: Galarza, Betina Claudia. Get PDF
This study aims to assess the condition factor (K) of five fish species (Serrasalmus rhombeus, Psectrogaster amazonica, Loricaria cataphracta, Panaque nigrolineatus and Squaliforma emarginata). Samplings were conducted during the low-water period of 2007 and 2008 using gillnets and minnow traps. All equipments were placed along a stretch of 1000 m at 5 pm and retrieved at 7 am. Collected fish were taxonomically identified, weighed (g) and measured (standard length; mm). The fish fitness was assessed by the condition factor (K=W/L³) and compared among groups of tributaries by a Kruskal-Wallis test. From the five species considered, two (S. emarginata and P. amazonica) displayed significant differences of the condition factor among the groups of tributaries. The highest values of K correspond to fish located in the headwaters, while lowest values are observed in tributaries located in the floodplain.

The trypanocidal activity of the alkaloid oliverine involves inhibition of DNA synthesis

    Get PDF
The Trypanosoma cruzi parasite is an etiologic agent of the American trypanosomiasis called Chagas disease. This pathology affects more than 24 million persons and represents one of the most important public health problems in Latin America. Taking into account this, it is necessary the search of new antitrypanosomal agents that show a major level of efficacy and minor indexes of toxicity in affected patients. Vast source of them are the natural products from plants with enormous structural diversity. A particular type of these compounds is represented by aporphinoid alkaloids. In our experiments, anonaine (2), oliverine (3) and guatterine (5) displayed antitrypanosomal activity. The compound 3 showed the most important activity with an IC50 = 12.00 ± 0.36 μM. Its mechanism of action may include inhibition of DNA synthesis.Fil: Garro, Hugo Alejandro. Universidad Nacional de San Luis. Facultad de Química, Bioquímica y Farmacia. Departamento de Química.
