Photons from the Color Glass Condensate in p+A collisions
We report on a first NLO computation of photon production in p+A collisions
at collider energies within the Color Glass Condensate framework, significantly
extending previous LO results. At central rapidites, our result is the dominant
contribution and probes multi-gluon correlators in nuclei. At high photon
momenta, the result is directly sensitive to the nuclear gluon distribution.
The NLO result contains two processes, the annihilation process and the process
with pair and a photon in the final state. We provide a numerical
evaluation of the photon spectrum from the annihilation process.Comment: Hard Probes 2016 proceedings contribution, Sep. 23-27, Wuhan, China.

Chapter Wealth inequality in Catalonia, 1400-1800. Sources, data and a case study
This work is part of the research carried out within the EINITE and SMITE projects for the case of Catalonia. In this chapter, firstly, a brief state of the art of research carried out in recent years on the evolution of economic inequality in the pre-industrial world is traced. Subsequently, through the previously existing literature and the study of the empirical evidence compiled for this work, the characteristics of the fiscal sources available for some Catalan localities, i.e. the books of estimes, vàlues or manifests, and the sample of localities studied in the EINITE/SMITE projects are described in detail. The second part of the work focuses on the analysis of a case study, the town of Balaguer
QCD ghost dark energy cannot (even roughly) explain the main features of the accepted cosmological paradigm
We explore the whole phase space of the so called Veneziano/QCD ghost dark
energy models where the dynamics of the inner trapping horizon is ignored and
also the more realistic models where the time-dependence of the horizon is
taken into consideration. We pay special attention to the choice of phase space
variables leading to bounded and compact phase space so that no critical point
of physical interest is missing. It is demonstrated that ghost dark energy is
not a suitable candidate to explain the presently accepted cosmological
paradigm since no critical point associated with matter dominance is found in
the physical phase space of the model. A transient stage of matter dominance --
responsible for the observed amount of cosmic structure -- is an essential
ingredient of the accepted cosmological paradigm. The above drawback is in
addition to the well known problem with classical instability against small
perturbations of the background density originated from negativity of the sound
speed squared.Comment: 12 pages, 3 eps figures. Remarks on phase space analysis

A 300 GHz "Always-in-Focus" Focusing System for Target Detection
A focusing system for a 300 GHz radar with 5 m target distance and 10 mm diameter spot size resolution is proposed. The focusing system is based on a Gaussian telescope scheme and its main parameters have been de¬signed using Gaussian beam quasi-optical propagation theory with an in-house developed MATLAB® based analysis tool. Then, this approach has been applied to a real focusing system based on two elliptical mirrors in order to reduce the distortion and cross-polar level and a plane mirror to provide scanning capabilities. The over¬all system has been simulated with a full-wave electromag¬netic simulator and its behavior is presented. With this approach, the focusing system always works "in-focus" since the only mirror that is rotated when scanning is the output plane mirror, so the beam is almost not distorted. The design process, although based in the well-known Gaussian beam quasi-optical propagation theory, provides a fast and accurate method and minimizes the overall size of the mirrors. As a consequence, the size of the focusing system is also reduced
Calorons on the lattice - a new perspective
We discuss the manifestation of instanton and monopole solutions on a
periodic lattice at finite temperature and their relation to the infinite
volume analytic caloron solutions with asymptotic non-trivial Polyakov loops.
As a tool we use improved cooling and twisted boundary conditions. Typically we
find 2Q lumps for topological charge Q. These lumps are BPS monopoles.Comment: Latex. 16 pages, 9 figure
Symmetry breaking and clustering in a vibrated granular gas with several macroscopically connected compartments
The spontaneous symmetry breaking in a vibro-fluidized low-density granular
gas in three connected compartments is investigated. When the total number of
particles in the system becomes large enough, particles distribute themselves
unequally among the three compartments. Particles tend to concentrate in one of
the compartments, the other two having the (relatively small) same average
number of particles. A hydrodynamical model that accurately predicts the
bifurcation diagram of the system is presented. The theory can be easily
extended to the case of an arbitrary number of connected compartments
