Visual analytics for soundness verification of process models
Soundness validation of process models is a complex task for process modelers due to all the factors that must be taken into account. Although there are tools to verify this property, they do not provide users with easy information on where soundness starts breaking and under which conditions. Providing insights such as states in which problems occur, involved activities, or paths leading to those states, is crucial for process modelers to better understand why the model is not sound. In this paper we address the problem of validating the soundness property of a process model by using a novel visual approach and a new tool called PSVis (Petri net Soundness Visualization) supporting this approach. The PSVis tool aims to guide expert users through the process models in order to get insights into the problems that cause the process to be unsoun
Hydrogen Susceptibility of Nanostructured Bainitic Steels
Abstract
Nanostructured steels with an ultimate tensile strength of 1.6 GPa were produced with austenite content varying from 0 to 35 vol pct. The effect on the mechanical properties was assessed after saturating the steel with hydrogen. Elongation was reduced to 2 to 5 pct and UTS to 65 to 70 pct of prior value. Thermal desorption measurements confirmed the higher solubility of hydrogen in the steel with higher austenite content. The level of hydrogen saturation was found to correlate to the total area of grain boundaries rather than to the volume fraction of retained austenite. This is the final version of the article. Comparison of the Neutrophil Proteome in Trauma Patients and Normal Controls
Background: Neutrophils have an impressive array of microbicidal weapons, and in the presence of a pathogen, progress from a quiescent state in the bloodstream to a completely activated state. Failure to regulate this activation, for example, when the blood is flooded with cytokines after severe trauma, causes inappropriate neutrophil activation that paradoxically, is associated with tissue and organ damage. Acidic proteomic maps of quiescent human neutrophils were analyzed and compared to those of activated neutrophils from severe trauma patients. The analysis revealed 114 spots whose measured volumes differed between activated and quiescent neutrophils, with 27 upregulated and 87 downregulated in trauma conditions. Among the identified proteins, grancalcin, S100-A9 and CACNB2 reinforce observed correlations between motility and ion flux, ANXA3, SNAP, FGD1 and Zfyve19 are involved in vesicular transport and exocytosis, and GSTP1, HSPA1 HSPA1L, MAOB, UCH-L5, and PPA1 presented evidence that activated neutrophils may have diminished protection against oxidative damage and are prone to apoptosis. These are discussed, along with proteins involved in cytoskeleton reorganization, reactive oxygen species production, and ion flux. Proteins such as Zfyve19, MAOB and albumin- like protein were described for the first time in the neutrophil. In this work we achieved the identification of several proteins potentially involved in inflammatory signaling after trauma, as well as proteins described for the first time in neutrophils
MeV Tau Neutrino in Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking Model
A supersymmetric model which naturally accommodates MeV tau neutrino within
the framework of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking is described. The lepton
number violation is originally introduced in the messenger sector of the
theory. A large slepton-Higgs mixing mass and a small lepton-higgsino mixing
mass are generated at one-loop. Scalar tau neutrino has non-vanishing vacuum
expectation value. These result in a non-zero \nu_{\tau} mass which is in the
range of (1-10) MeV.Comment: 18 pages, latex, two figure

Constraints on Large Extra Dimensions with Bulk Neutrinos
We consider right-handed neutrinos propagating in (large) extra
dimensions, whose only coupling to Standard Model fields is the Yukawa coupling
to the left-handed neutrino and the Higgs boson. These theories are attractive
as they can explain the smallness of the neutrino mass, as has already been
shown. We show that if is bigger than two, there are strong
constraints on the radius of the extra dimensions, resulting from the
experimental limit on the probability of an active state to mix into the large
number of sterile Kaluza-Klein states of the bulk neutrino. We also calculate
the bounds on the radius resulting from requiring that perturbative unitarity
be valid in the theory, in an imagined Higgs-Higgs scattering channel.Comment: 24 pages, 4 figures, revtex4. v2: Minor typos corrected, references

Phenotypic Diversity for Seed Mineral Concentration in North American Dry Bean Germplasm of Middle American Ancestry
Dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seeds are a major protein, carbohydrate, and mineral source in the human diet of peoples in multiple regions of the world. Seed mineral biofortification is an ongoing objective to improve this important food source. The objective of this research was to assess the seed mineral concentration of five macroelements and eight microelements in a large panel (n = 277) of modern race Durango and race Mesoamerica genotypes to determine if variability existed that could be exploited for targeted seed biofortification. Varieties that derive from these races are found in many diets throughout the world. The panel was grown in replicated trials under typical production conditions in the major bean growing regions of the United States, and a subset of the panel was also grown in replicated trials at three locations under control and terminal drought conditions. Except for K, seed mineral concentrations were higher for race Mesoamerica genotypes. Significantly higher seed concentrations for the majority of the minerals were observed for white-seeded genotypes and race Durango genotypes with the now preferred indeterminate, upright growth habit. Modern genotypes (since 1997) had equal or increased mineral concentrations compared with older genotypes. Drought affected mineral content differentially, having no effect on the microelement content but increased Co, Fe, and Ni concentrations. The correlation of Ca and Mn concentrations suggests that these elements may share seed deposition mechanisms. The high heritability for seed mineral concentration implies that breeding progress can be achieved by parental selection from this panel
Minimal SUSY SO(10) model and predictions for neutrino mixings and leptonic CP violation
We discuss a minimal Supersymmetric SO(10) model where B-L symmetry is broken
by a {\bf 126} dimensional Higgs multiplet which also contributes to fermion
masses in conjunction with a {\bf 10} dimensional superfield. This minimal
Higgs choice provides a partial unification of neutrino flavor structure with
that of quarks and has been shown to predict all three neutrino mixing angles
and the solar mass splitting in agreement with observations, provided one uses
the type II seesaw formula for neutrino masses. In this paper we generalize
this analysis to include arbitrary CP phases in couplings and vevs. We find
that (i) the predictions for neutrino mixings are similar with as before and other parameters in a somewhat bigger range and (ii) that
to first order in the quark mixing parameter (the Cabibbo angle), the
leptonic mixing matrix is CP conserving. We also find that in the absence of
any higher dimensional contributions to fermion masses, the CKM phase is
different from that of the standard model implying that there must be new
contributions to quark CP violation from the supersymmetry breaking sector.
Inclusion of higher dimensional terms however allows the standard model CKM
phase to be maintained.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figure
Helicity Analysis of Semileptonic Hyperon Decays Including Lepton Mass Effects
Using the helicity method we derive complete formulas for the joint angular
decay distributions occurring in semileptonic hyperon decays including lepton
mass and polarization effects. Compared to the traditional covariant
calculation the helicity method allows one to organize the calculation of the
angular decay distributions in a very compact and efficient way. In the
helicity method the angular analysis is of cascade type, i.e. each decay in the
decay chain is analyzed in the respective rest system of that particle. Such an
approach is ideally suited as input for a Monte Carlo event generation program.
As a specific example we take the decay () followed by the nonleptonic decay for which we show a few examples of decay distributions which are
generated from a Monte Carlo program based on the formulas presented in this
paper. All the results of this paper are also applicable to the semileptonic
and nonleptonic decays of ground state charm and bottom baryons, and to the
decays of the top quark.Comment: Published version. 40 pages, 11 figures included in the text. Typos
