Sexting among University Students: Links to Internet Addiction and Psychological Variables
This paper has been funded by the Vice-rectorate for
Research and Transfer of the University of Granada
(Spain), programme of pre-competitive research projects
for young researchers (Reference: PPJIB2019-06).Sexting is increasingly common among university students, while levels of Internet addiction are rising in this population. This has caused students to present certain risk behaviors that are linked to the development of psychological variables that affect health such as low self-control, depression, anxiety and stress. In this paper it was proposed as objective of the study to analyze the links that are established between the practice of sexting, Internet addiction, self- control, depression, anxiety and stress. For this purpose, an online survey was applied to a sample of 1013 university students from a Spanish university, which collected four standardized instruments to measure the constructs of the study. The results showed that students
who practiced sexting were associated with low self-control and higher levels of depression, anxiety and stress, as well as problematic Internet use. Furthermore, gender, living with parents, and daily Internet use
were predictors of sexting. Finally, the main implications derived from the study in relation to the links of sexting and Internet addiction were collected.University of Granada PPJIB2019-0

Self organizing maps as a novel tool for data analysis in education
Young people currently live and are connected to the virtual world in a natural and simple way. Nevertheless, in spite of the great advantages of the use of Information and Communication Technology, and particularly social networks, there are several drawbacks, principally security and privacy of net users.
However, human behaviour is strongly non-linear, so usual statistical analysis does not yield accurate results. Now, machine learning algorithms are very common in solving real life non-linear problems, such as economics, medicine and engineering. So it would be worthy to apply this methodology on education data sets.
In this work, a non-linear, visual algorithm named Self Organizing Map (SOM) has been applied in order to extract some conclusions about related aspects mainly, to security and privacy perception of teenagers when using Virtual Social Networks. SOMs are a particular tool based on Artificial Neural Networks, and provide both a non linear approach and a visualization tool of data.
The present work proposes a study to determine and analyze the different aspects. A methodology based on a survey consisting of 27 questions has been carried out on a 170 teenagers, aged between 12 and 16 years. SOMs have been applied on variables related to Facebook privacy and security issues. Data on every variable have been mapped into a 7x12 neurons network.
The results have revealed a lack of knowledge of privacy, protection mechanisms and even their own image, that Virtual Social Network implements.
A lack of awareness and sensibility about the problems that a thoughtless use of these social networks can cause has been detected. In other way, this work also has proved that SOM is a valuable, interesting tool to infer knowledge from non-linear data and a different proposal from the classical linear statistical methods
Creencias y actitudes de adolescentes españoles hacia el consumo de tabaco en pipa de agua
Objective: To identify beliefs and attitudes of high school students in Las Palmas regarding waterpipe smoking. This objective responds to the recent and increasing waterpipe smoking among European adolescents, the lack of data on its determinants and the absence of research on this issue among adolescents in Spain.Method: The sample, which comprised 1770 students of the province of Las Palmas (Canary Islands, Spain), was obtained by stratifying each academic block by geographic areas, grouping the students in as many clusters as existing groups in the school for each year group. An ad hoc questionnaire was used to collect data and a descriptive analysis of the data carried out. Proportions were compared using the χ2 test. Results: 70.7% of adolescents considered that waterpipe smoking is less harmful than smoking cigarettes and 71.3% believed it to be less addictive. Students asserted that it is a generally accepted practice among their friends (63.7%) and in society (78.9%). 27.8% of the interviewees perceived that their parents would allow them to smoke waterpipe at home. All of these beliefs and attitudes were more common among smokers (p<0.001).Conclusions: Most students consider waterpipe smoking to be less dangerous and less addictive than cigarette consumption. This belief, the perception of its social acceptance and family tolerance towards it have increased its popularity among adolescents.

Effect of the Flipped Classroom and Gamification Methods in the Development of a Didactic Unit on Healthy Habits and Diet in Primary Education
This paper has been funded by the I+D+I Project Research of Results Transfer Office (OTRI) of the University of Granada (Reference: CNT4315).Currently, there are several methodological models that have broken into different disciplines of knowledge with the aim of making the teaching/learning process more dynamic, active and participatory for students. This is the case of Flipped Classroom, which is based on a mixed approach between e-learning and face-to-face teaching, as well as gamification, which bases its didactic principles on the recreational components of the games. Within this context, the aim of this research is to observe what effect the application of Flipped Classroom and gamification has in the development of motivation, autonomy and self-regulation towards learning through a didactic unit on healthy habits and diet in 202 students of 6th grade of Primary School from four different schools (public and state-subsidized) in the city of Granada (Spain). For this purpose, a methodological design was used with pre-test and post-test to check the effects of the experience on the students. The findings obtained showed that the application of these methods promoted an increase in students’ motivation, as well as in their autonomy and self-regulation when facing the contents of the subject. For this reason, it is advocated that there is a need to continue promoting a quality and innovative educational practice according to the figure of the student today.I+D+I Project Research of Results Transfer Office (OTRI) of the University of Granada

Educational Innovation in Higher Education: Use of Role Playing and Educational Video in Future Teachers’ Training
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have led to the emergence of a variety of
active and innovative teaching methods. This is the case in role-playing, which consists of simulating
a real-life situation, in this case the school context, in which the student takes on a certain role and
interacts with other students in a fictitious situation. Framed in this way, the present study aims to
show if the application of the role-playing method promotes the improvement of attitude variables and
practical skills. To this end, we advocated the use of a quasi-experimental methodology, with a control
and experimental group and the application of a post-test. The sample is composed of 138 students
from the Master of Teachers of Compulsory Secondary Education in Ceuta (Spain). The results showed
that the students positively valued the application of the method, obtaining better scores in the set of
variables studied, especially in motivation, creativity and collaboration. Therefore, it continues to be
observed that the application of innovative methodologies through technology promotes the increase
of multiple skills in the student body. This study aimed to prove that the use of active methods
provides an increase in students’ skills, and that, therefore, we must bet on the use of sustainable
pedagogies in order to promote a real innovation in the classrooms. This study is financed by the Teaching Training and Information Plan of the University of Granada.

Impact of the Flipped Classroom Method in the Mathematical Area: A Systematic Review
Currently, the use of technology has become one of the most popular educational trends in
Higher Education. One of the most popular methods on the Higher Education stage is the Flipped
Classroom, characterised by the use of both face-to-face and virtual teaching through videos and
online material, promoting more autonomous, flexible and dynamic teaching for students. In this
work, we started to compile the main articles that used Flipped Classroom within the mathematical
area in Higher Education, with the aim of analysing their main characteristics, as well as the impact
caused on students. To do so, the method of systematic review was used, focusing on those empirical
experiences published in Web of Sciences and Scopus. The results indicated that, in most cases,
the implementation of Flipped Classroom led to an improvement in students’ knowledge and
attitudes towards mathematical content and discipline. In addition, aspects such as collaborative
work, autonomy, self-regulation towards learning or academic performance were benefited through
this method.Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of the Government of Spain
