    Get PDF
A new methodology to reduce energy cost in irrigation networks is developed in this paper. Its goal is to optimize simultaneously both pumping station and hydrant operation by setting different discharge pressure on the pumping station and distributing adequately hydrant irrigation during different tariff periods. methodology is an extension an existing one described in Faci E., (2014) which is only capable of optimize hydrant operation. Advantages and differences between them are described and they are compared in the case study of CR Callén network (Huesca) which shows the new methodology is capable to save an additional 10% of the annual electricity costs

Peatlands in the Toledo Mountains (central Spain): characterisation and conservation status.

We have limited knowledge about the biodiversity and vulnerability of peatlands in the lower-altitude mountains of the Iberian Peninsula, largely because peatlands have not been routinely differentiated from other habitat types in Spain. Understanding is now developing about the ecology of peatlands in central Spain, but they are already under severe threat of conversion and degradation. In this article we describe the results of a field survey and literature review study to characterise and describe the current condition of peatlands in the Toledo Mountains in terms of their typology, the representation of habitat types protected by European (EU) designations, threats, endangered plant species, and conservation status. Our results suggest that the principal threats are overgrazing by domestic animals and ungulates (red deer and wild boar), fire, expansion of cereal crops, drying-out and erosion. Disturbance is most severe in areas that are not protected by nature conservation designations, where peatlands are especially vulnerable to damage arising from human activities

Influence of Interface Traps on MOSFET thermal coefficients and its effects on the ZTC current

    Get PDF
Interface degradation-induced shifts of MOSFET thermal coefficients and zero temperature coefficient current (IZTC) were studied by monitoring the interface traps (Nit) growth in a thick oxide n-channel MOSFET due to exposure to ionizing radiation, and to further annealing at room temperature. A new physics-based compact model was proposed to account for the observed results, and to predict the evolution of these parameters as interface traps are generated during stress. Within a range (0–40∘C) around room temperature, both the inverse of the mobility and the threshold voltage thermal coefficient varied roughly linear with Nit, with relative variations of 5.2×10−13eVcm2 and −9.33×10−13eVcm2, respectively. Furthermore, the dependence for IZTC with Nit can also be approximated to a linear expression, with a relative increment of 1.94×10−12eVcm2. The implications for temperature error mitigation in MOS sensors were discussed.Fil: García Cozzi, R.. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. In this work, we will discuss the design of a team of robots to play soccer at RoboCup E-League. This task is being carried out in the Cognitive Robotics group of the Laboratory of Research and Development in Artificial Intellgence (LIDIA), Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Universidad Nacional del Sur. The RoboCup competition provides a great opportunity to develop a multi-agent system in which we can test and apply new ideas and results. In the following sections, we will briefly describe the league in which we will participate, and our proposal for the implementation of a team.Eje: Inteligencia artificial distribuida, aspectos teóricos de la inteligencia artificial y teoría de computaciónRed de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI

Humic-like substances from urban waste as auxiliaries for photo-Fenton treatment: a fluorescence EEM-PARAFAC study

    Get PDF
In this work, analysis of excitation-emission-matrices (EEM) has been employed to gain further insight into the characterization of humic like substances (HLS) obtained from urban wastes (soluble bio-organic substances, SBOs). In particular, complexation of these substances with iron and changes along a photo-Fenton process have been studied. Recorded EEMs were decomposed by using parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC). Three fluorescent components were identified by PARAFAC modeling of the entire set of SBO solutions studied. The EEM peak locations (λex/λem) of these components were 310?330 nm/400?420 nm (C1), 340?360 nm/450?500 nm (C2), and 285 nm/335?380 nm (C3). Slight variations of the maximum position of each component with the solution pH were observed. The interaction of SBO with Fe(III) was characterized by determining the stability constants of the components with Fe(III) at different pH values, which were in the order of magnitude of the ones reported for humic substances and reached their highest values at pH = 5. Photochemical experiments employing SBO and Fe(III), with and without H2O2, showed pH-dependent trends for the evolution of the modeled components, which exhibited a strong correlation with the efficiency reported for the photo-Fenton processes in the presence of SBO at different pH values.Instituto de Investigaciones Fisicoquímicas Teóricas y Aplicada

Evaluation of the combined glucose-insulin and intravenous glucose tolerance tests for insulin dysregulation diagnosis in donkeys

    Get PDF
Background. Insulin dysregulation (ID) and donkey metabolic syndrome (DMS) are common in this species. Contrary to horses, diagnostic guidelines compiling insulin cut-offs values and dynamic testing interpretations have not been reported for this species. Objectives. To evaluate resting serum insulin concentrations, the combined glucose-insulin test (CGIT) and the glucose intravenous tolerance test (IVGTT) for the diagnosis of DMS with ID suspicion. Study design. Diagnostic test comparison.Methods. Six of 80 mix-breed adult donkeys fulfilled the inclusion criteria for DMS based on history or clinical evidence of recurrent laminitis, body condition >6 and neck score >2 or baseline insulin and leptin concentrations >20 µIU/mL and >12 ng/mL respectively. CGIT and IVGTT were performed in all donkeys within a week and interpreted following guidelines reported for equine metabolic syndrome (EMS). Insulin and glucose curves were analysed, proxies calculated and correlations and multivariate analysis assessed. Results. Following EMS guidelines, CGIT classified 2 (using glucose-positive phase duration) or 3 (using insulin concentration) and IVGTT classified 5 donkeys as ID. ID donkeys showed a lower glucose/insulin ratio, QUICKI and RISQI, and a higher insulin/glucose ratio, MIRG and HOMA-B%. Main limitations. Comparison of these tests with additional dynamic testing including a larger number of ID donkeys is necessary. Conclusions. This is the first study evaluating dynamic tests to assess ID/DMS in DMS-suspected donkeys. IVGTT detected more ID donkeys than CGIT. EMS recommendations could also be used for DMS diagnosis, although a baseline insulin cut-off value is needed

Uso de ontologías para representar sistemas de información

    Get PDF
