    The Spanish Pantheon in the Campo di Verano was entrusted to three resident artists at the Academy of Spain in Rome in 1957: architects José María García de Paredes (1924-1990) and Javier Carvajal (1926-2013) and sculptor Joaquín García Donaire (1926-2003). They proposed an open space devoid of religious symbols apart from the chapels around it. This work explores a new direction that moves away from the usual funerary monument: a symbolic space composed of two planes in equilibrium laid out on a smooth platform where there is no distinction between sculpture and architecture. This place is for those who take time to pause here, a permanent abode, to spend time with the absent and the present

    Comparison of architectures for PAPR reduction in OFDM combining pilot symbols with constellation extension

    The Proceeding at: IEEE Eurocon Conference, took place at 2013, July 01-04, in Zagreb (Croacia)A main drawback of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems is that they suffer from a high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) at the transmitted signal. We propose three different architectures of a PAPR reduction technique combining pilot symbols with constellation extension. These architectures make use of a metric-based amplitude predistortion algorithm for the constellation extension embedded with orthogonal pilot symbols. Since neither the constellation extension nor the orthogonal pilots degrade the Bit Error Rate (BER), then the combined architectures also guarantee system performance. The three proposals outperform the previous algorithms (SAP and OPS) in terms of PAPR reduction, due to adequately joining pilots symbols with constellation extension.     Energy Efficient Peak Power Reduction in OFDM with Amplitude Predistortion Aided by Orthogonal Pilots

    The high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is a main drawback of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. We propose a two-step technique to reduce the PAPR consisting of a metric-based constellation extension method, such as Simple Amplitude Predistortion (SAP) algorithm, aided by Orthogonal Pilot Sequences (OPS) in a previous step, where we also provide a low-complex implementation of OPS scheme. We show that our proposal, named OP-SAP, outperforms previous approaches in terms of PAPR reduction, due to joining the benefits of Orthogonal Pilots with SAP algorithm. Moreover, it is energy efficient within two aspects: transmitted energy and implementation energy. OP-SAP saves up to 57% of transmitted energy per predistorted symbol compared to SAP. Regarding implementation energy, PAPR reduction techniques introduce some additional computational complexity, which requires extra cycles in the processor that demand energy consumption.     One pot solvothermal synthesis of organic acid coated magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles

    Indexación: ScieloABSTRACT In this work we present the synthesis and characterization of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs), which were structurally and magnetically characterized. The use of iron salts and an organic acid (l-serine or ascorbic acid) as precursors under solvothermal conditions yielded these coated IONPs. The powder X-ray diffraction pattern of FeO-1 and FeO-2 is consistent with hematite (α-Fe2O3) and hematite-maghemite ((α-Fe2O3/γ-Fe2O3) respectively. The TEM analysis permits to estimate an average size of 10 nm for the FeO-1 sample. The magnetic characterization of the samples through the M(H) plots showed a very low coercivity value for both samples, being 53 Oe for FeO-1 and 10 Oe for FeO-2, indicating the very weak ferromagnetic character of the synthesized iron oxide species. Even though both organic acids under solvothermal conditions permit to obtain coated IONPs in one pot reaction, l-serine produces a more narrow-size distribution

    Performance of OPS-SAP technique for PAPR reduction in IEEE 802.11p scenarios

    Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are wireless networks that emerged thanks to the rapid evolution of wireless technologies and the automotive industry. The IEEE 802.11p standard is part of a group of standards related to all layers of protocols for Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment (WAVE) communications, which defines Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical (PHY) levels. The PHY layer of IEEE 802.11p is essentially based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) due to its advantages. However, OFDM signal suffers from high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) at the transmitter side, which causes a significant power efficiency penalty. An efficient peak power reduction technique is Simple Amplitude Predistortion aided by Orthogonal Pilot Sequences (OPS-SAP), which consists in moving certain outer constellation points of the frequency-domain OFDM symbol.
