Newsgames as a storytelling strategy in transmedia journalism: an analysis model proposal

El creciente uso y popularidad de las narrativas transmedia ha propiciado la aparición de nuevos géneros y formatos periodísticos. Es el caso de los newsgames, un formato interactivo que bebe del videojuego y el periodismo para mostrar las noticias de una forma lúdica, inmersiva y participativa. La presente comunicación tiene como objetivo proponer una herramienta de análisis que permita medir de forma cuantitativa el componente periodístico y lúdico de cualquier newsgame o videojuego periodístico. De este modo, se pretende determinar si predomina la información periodística o la jugabilidad del contenido. La propuesta metodológica aúna en una única ficha de análisis los criterios de calidad del relato periodístico, así como los elementos propios del diseño de videojuegos. Finalmente, se pondrá a prueba su eficacia mediante el estudio de caso de El bueno, el malo y el tesorero, un videojuego periodístico elaborado por El Confidencial Lab y Journalism++ que forma parte de un proyecto transmedia sobre la corrupción a nivel europeo.The increasing use and popularity of transmedia storytelling has led to the emerge of new journalistic genres and formats. This is the case with Newsgames. Newsgames is an interactive format feeding off videogames and journalism to show news in a playful, immersive and participative way. This paper aims to propose an analysis tool to measure quantitatively the journalistic and playful component of Newsgames and journalistic video games, in order to determine whether news reporting or gameplay content prevails. The methodological proposal joins, in one only analysis sheet, quality criteria and fundamentals of journalistic storytelling, as well as the aesthetic, the mechanics and the dynamics of video games design. Finally, efficacy will be tested through the case study “El Bueno, el malo y el tesorero”: a videogame produced by El Confidencial Lab and Journalism++ that belongs to a transmedia project on corruption in a European level

Usando um design divertido para combater a desinformação:

The rise of social media, together with a particularly convulsive political situation, has fostered the spread of fake news and other information disorders. In this context, several media outlets and non-profit institutions have launched different verification initiatives with the objective of empowering individuals to critically evaluate fake news. The objective of this research is to explore the potential of five newsgames designed to educate users against misinformation. The methodological proposal is based on an exploratory content analysis of the newsgames, to identify the mechanics, dynamics, and narrative formulas used in its design. Our findings reveal that the correct choice of mechanics and dynamics allows complex arguments to be created in a way that is consistent with news standards. Thus, the intersection of journalism, education, and gaming facilitates “information-driven media” in which news content is constructed through interaction with the game system and is not included just as an accessory element.El auge de las redes sociales, junto a una situación política particularmente convulsa, fomentan la proliferación de bulos y otros trastornos de la información. En este contexto, algunos medios e instituciones sin ánimo de lucro han desarrollado iniciativas de verificación para mostrar cómo detectar y evaluar críticamente las noticias falsas. La presente investigación tiene como objetivo analizar el potencial de cinco newsgames diseñados para educar a los usuarios contra la desinformación. La propuesta metodológica se basa en un análisis exploratorio del contenido y la estructura de cada newsgame con el objetivo de identificar las mecánicas, dinámicas y fórmulas persuasivas empleadas en su diseño. Los resultados muestran cómo la correcta elección de los recursos lúdicos permite crear argumentos complejos de forma consistente con los estándares informativos. En este sentido, la intersección del periodismo, la educación y el juego potencia un nuevo modelo informativo en el que el contenido se construye a través de la interacción con el sistema de juego y no como un simple elemento accesorio.O surgimento de redes sociais, juntamente com uma situação política convulsiva, levaram à proliferação de trotes e outros distúrbios da informação. Nesse contexto, algumas mídias e instituições sem fins lucrativos desenvolveram iniciativas de verificação para mostrar à sociedade como detectar e avaliar criticamente notícias falsas. Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar o potencial de cinco newsgames criados para educar contra a desinformação. A proposta metodológica é baseada em uma análise exploratória do conteúdo, a fim de identificar as mecânicas, dinâmicas e fórmulas persuasivas utilizadas em seu projeto. Os resultados mostram como a escolha correta dos recursos recreativos permite que argumentos complexos sejam criados de maneira consistente com os padrões de qualidade jornalísticos. Soluciones de alojamiento para refugiados en la ciudad de Valencia

El trabajo trata de analizar las posibles soluciones de alojamiento para albergar personas refugiadas en la ciudad de Valencia. Dicho análisis valorará opciones reales para alojar refugiados durante la fase de transición, una vez el periodo de recepción ha sido superado. Autonomía local y principios de estabilidad presupuestaria y sostenibilidad financiera

Desde la integración de los principios de estabilidad presupuestaria y sostenibilidad financiera a nuestra legislación, dos normas fundamentales se encargaron de contener la información más trascendental y regular las situaciones más conflictivas en lo que a esta materia atañe en relación con el principio constitucional de autonomía local. Así pues, en estas disposiciones nos encontramos con contenidos tan esenciales como son los principios rectores de la política presupuestaria o la base de las actuales regulaciones sobre el equilibrio presupuestario a nivel estatal, a nivel autonómico y a nivel local. Del mismo modo, estas disposiciones sentaron la base y comenzaron la andadura en nuestro país con dirección a la integración europea en materia presupuestaria. Todos estos contenidos serán objeto de estudio concreto a lo largo del presente trabajo dada su trascendencia pasada, actual y futura. Sin embargo, con la reforma del artículo 135 de la CE y la entrada en vigor de la LO 2/2012 estas normas legislativas que años atrás fueron imprescindibles para mantener en pie el sistema de autonomía local en materia presupuestaria y financiera actuando como columna vertebral del mismo, pasaron a ser meros antecedentes históricos sin aplicación práctica en nuestros días. Es decir, conviene recordarlas ya que sentaron las bases de la actual regulación en esta materia y por eso debería ser impensable que cayesen en el olvido, pero su aplicación práctica en la actualidad es inexistente. No así, la LO 2/2012 se ha consolidado como uno de los principales ejes de apoyo de la política presupuestaria actual en todos los niveles: comunitario, estatal, autonómico y local, erigiéndose como la piedra angular de nuestra regulación más moderna, pero, evidentemente, no tratándose de la única norma en esta materia, sino que se ve complementada en infinidad de contenidos por otras disposiciones de gran importancia a las que nos iremos refiriendo a lo largo de este análisis. Así pues, abordaremos cuestiones trascendentales en nuestros días como el equilibrio presupuestario a diferentes niveles al que ya nos hemos referido, la implantación de limitaciones a la autonomía local y financiera sobre la base de la disciplina presupuestaria o el estudio de las reglas fiscales desde el año 2020 con motivo de las catástrofes vividas durante estos últimos años.Since the integration of the principles of budgetary stability and financial sustainability into our legislation, two fundamental regulations have been in charge of containing the most transcendental information and regulating the most conflictive situations regarding this matter in relation to the constitutional principle of local autonomy. Thus, in these provisions we find essential content such as the guiding principles of budget policy or the basis of the current regulations on budget balance at the national, regional and local levels. Similarly, these provisions laid the foundation and began the journey in our country towards European integration in budgetary matters. All these contents will be the object of specific study throughout this work given its past, present and future significance. However, with the reform of article 135 of the EC and the implantation of LO 2/2012, these legislative norms that years ago were essential to keep the local autonomy system in place in budgetary and financial matters, acting as the backbone of the same, they became mere historical antecedents without practical application in our days. In other words, it is convenient to remember them since they laid the foundations of the current regulation in this matter and for this reason it should be unthinkable that they fall into oblivion, but their practical application is currently non-existent. Not so, LO 2/2012 has established itself as one of the main axes of support for the current budget policy at all levels: community, state, regional and local, establishing itself as the cornerstone of our most modern regulation, but, obviously, this is not the only rule in this matter, but is complemented in countless contents by other provisions of great importance to which we will refer throughout this analysis. NDT-Suite: A Model-Based Suite for the Application of NDT

In general, a methodology needs to be empowered by appropriate tool support. Despite MDE paradigm does not result friendly enough in enterprise environments, particularly, the application of transformations among models may become complex, monotonous and very expensive if there are no software tools automating the process. In this context, this research paper presents NDT-Suite. Nowadays, NDT-Suite is composed by a wide set of free Java tools which gives support to enterprises that are using NDT (Navigational Development Techniques) methodology in their projects. All of them support different aspects in NDT usage: quality assurance, exit generation or code checking, among others. TCO-free low-temperature p+ emitters for back-junction c-Si solar cells

In this work, we report on the fabrication and characterization of n-type c-Si solar cells whose p+ emitters are based on laser processed aluminum oxide/silicon carbide (Al2O3/SiCx) films. The p+ emitter is defined at the rear side of the cell and it consists of point-like laser-diffused p+ regions with a surface charge induced emitter in between based on the high negative charge located at the Al2O3/c-Si interface. These emitters are fabricated at low temperature (1000 nm) that reach the rear surface of the cell resulting in an excellent back reflector. We fabricated solar cells with distance between p+ regions or pitch ranging from 200 to 350 µm with a front surface based on silicon heterojunction technology. Best efficiency (18.1%) is obtained for a pitch of 250 µm as a consequence of the trade-off between Voc and FF values.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Applying MILP/Heuristic algorithms to automated job-shop scheduling problems in aircraft-part manufacturing

This work presents efficient algorithms based on Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) and heuristic strategies for complex job-shop scheduling problems raised in Automated Manufacturing Systems. The aim of this work is to find alternative a solution approach of production and transportation operations in a multi-product multi-stage production system that can be used to solve industrial-scale problems with a reasonable computational effort. The MILP model developed must take into account; heterogeneous recipes, single unit per stage, possible recycle flows, sequence-dependent free transferring times and load transfer movements in a single automated material-handling device. In addition, heuristic-based strategies are proposed to iteratively find and improve the solutions generated over time. An updated checklist of necrophagous flies (Diptera, Calyptratae) occurring in the urban area of Medellín- Colombia is presented. 27 species belonging to 4 families are reported. Numerical simulations of rear point-contacted solar cells pn 2.2 Wcm p-type c-Si substrates

Rear surface of high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells is based on a combination of dielectric passivation and point-like contacts. In this work, we develop a 3D model for these devices based on 2.2 Ωcm p-type crystalline silicon substrates. We validate the model by comparison with experimental results allowing us to determine an optimum design for the rear pattern. Additionally, the 3D model results are compared with the ones deduced from a simpler and widely used 1D model. Although the maximum efficiency predicted by both models is approximately the same, large deviations are observed in open-circuit voltage and fill factor. 1D simulations overestimate open-circuit voltage because Dember and electrochemical potential drops are not taken into account. On the contrary, fill factor is underestimated because of higher ohmic losses along the base when 1D analytical model is used. These deviations are larger for relatively low-doped substrates, as the ones used in the experimental samples reported hereby, and poor passivated contacts. As a result, 1D models could mislead to too short optimum rear contact spacing.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
