Workers hearing loss related with occupational and personal risk factor

    Get PDF
Introduction: Occupational hazards from exposure to noise, is a problem with psychosocial and occupational impact, which affected involvement is primordial. In workers exposed to noise it is detected hearing loss in a slow and progressive form, which makes difficult for them to be aware of hearing damage, so the query is performed in the later stages of the disease and where occupational health screening can act and specialized referral protocol. Objectives: Evaluate, jointly labor issues and outside work labor issues such as age, sex or blood glucose levels, with the potential ability to interfere with the parameters recorded in audiometry conducted in workplace and occupational physicians. Methods: We performed a descriptive study in 1636 with service workers by setting benchmarks in different audiometric frequencies (low, medium, high and very high) by calculation of SAL, ELI, monaural and binaural and relating to age, sex, characteristics of the job performed and blood glucose values. Results: Women have lower sound quality. The increase in blood glucose levels is increased risk of hearing loss. Workers with jobs out of the office have poorer audio quality that those inside and results are higher risk and poorer quality hearing for young workers. Conclusions: Audiometric controls made in occupational health have a preventive role in early detection of hearing loss that requires a coordinated and docketed work with the other specialties involved

    Get PDF
This article describes the beginning of a series of initiatives taking place in an educational community (teachers, pupils and family) so as to identifying the best practices of reception for new members who come to Francisco Arranz school. The search starts with organizing a film club, Nomads of the wind, and continues with the decision to create a comfortable climate all through welcome signs, story creation, songs and cross-sections in the school newspaper. Although Spanish is the sole language used in the school, this experience shows how to seize cultural and linguistic diversity as a source of enrichment and learning for all. It also shows how teamwork and participation of the entire school community can develop practices that generate intercultural education.

Especias, hierbas medicinales y plantas.

Various herbs, plants and spices have been important tools for traditional medicine and sometimes magic. Before the widespread use of industrially manufactured drugs, very common remedies, made out of herbs were prescribed, many of them with proven efficacy that have been rediscovered and used nowadays. Today, science offers contrasted information on the beneficial effects that spices may represent for certain pathologies and their potential medical benefits that might arise in the horizon of science. Eastern cultures, such as India or China, spent years incorporating their experiences in this line of study. This work represents a compilation of some of these publications, leaving the field opened to future researchers, western and especially Spanish, on potential treatment options offered by spices and plants, a path where our experience is still limited

Effects of deficit irrigation with saline water on yield and grape composition of Vitis vinifera L. cv. Monastrell

[EN] Warm and semi-arid climates are characterized by rainfall scarcity, resulting in the frequent use of low-quality water for irrigation. This work was undertaken to study the effects of water stress and saline irrigation on yield and grape composition of Monastrell grapevines grafted onto 1103P rootstock. The experiment was carried out during three consecutive seasons in a commercial vineyard located in Jumilla (SE Spain) with a loamy-sandy soil. Rainfed vines were compared with five watering regimes including a Control, irrigated with standard water, and four treatments that combined two different schedules for irrigation initiation (pre- and post-veraison) with saline water obtained by adding two types of salts (sulphates and chlorides). Vines from treatments with more severe water stress (i.e., rainfed) showed lower yields and vegetative growth. Moreover, the Rainfed treatment clearly modified grape composition when compared with the Control treatment by increasing berry phenolic content. The application of saline water slightly affected vine performance and grape composition regardless of the type of salts added to the irrigation water. Indeed, the watering regime had a greater effect on yield, vegetative growth and grape composition than the use of different saline waters. Our results suggest that, in the mid-term (3 years), and with a vineyard soil with good drainage, the use of saline waters is not detrimental to vine performance, but does not improve grape composition. Further research is required to assess the long-term effects of saline water application, particularly in view of the important accumulation of chlorides and sodium in leaf tissues observed in vines watered with salty water at the last season of this experiment.Open Access funding provided thanks to the CRUECSIC agreement with Springer Nature.
