    Get PDF

    Get PDF

The aim of this study is to study serum and urinary markers changes induced by a paddle tennis game. Twenty-seven highlevel players (12 men and 15 women), were selected to participate in this research. Blood and urine samples were taken before and immediately after a competition match. Serum biochemical parameters creatin kinase (CK) and urea (SU), and urinary red blood cells (RBCs) were determined. The results showed a significant increase (p <0.05) in serum levels of CK (20.62%) and SU (12.70%) respectively, as well as RBCs (2633.11%) in urine. These results place the paddle tennis as a sport with similar characteristics to other racket sports such as tennis and badminton, implying certain muscle damage, protein catabolism and hemolysis

Over the last years padel has experienced an exponential growth in all areas, as can be seen in the significant number of licences, the incorporation of new professional circuits and a significant increase in the number of scientific publications. However, there are still scarce research that analyse in depth the conditional characteristics of padel players according to the side of the court which they play on. Several studies have evaluated the explosive strength of the lower body in racket sports, but in padel the existing evidence is scarce, limited and heterogeneous, especially regarding the side of play, and particularly in women's competition. In this sense, the aim of this study is focused on evaluating and analysing the manifestations of active and reactive strength of the lower body in women's padel according to the side of play. The squat jump test (SJ) and the countermovement test (CMJ) were used to assess the active and reactive manifestations of lower limb strength, in addition to the power performed. The results obtained showed no significant differences in the height of the SJ and CMJ jumps, neither in the power performed. However, it can be seen that all the physical variables analysed are slightly higher in those players located on the left side of the court. Depending on the side of play, the differences found could be the result of specific chronic muscular adaptations derived from highly specialized training and competition. The results obtained suggested the need to design and carry out differentiated trainings taking according to the side of the game in which the players compete in padel tennis. Further research is needed to contrast the results found in this investigation

Strain selection for improvement of Bradyrhizobium japonicum competitiveness for nodulation of soybean

A Bradyrhizobium japonicum USDA 110-derived strain able to produce wider halos in soft-agar medium than its parental strain was obtained by recurrent selection. It was more chemotactic than the wild type towards mannitol and three amino acids. When cultured in minimal medium with mannitol as a single carbon-source, it had one thick subpolar flagellum as the wild type, plus several other flagella that were thinner and sinusoidal. Root adsorption and infectivity in liquid media were 50-100% higher for the selected strain, but root colonization in water-unsaturated vermiculite was similar to the wild type. A field experiment was then carried out in a soil with a naturalized population of 1.8 × 105 soybean-nodulating rhizobia g of soil -1. Bradyrhizobium japonicum strains were inoculated either on the soybean seeds or in the sowing furrows. Nodule occupation was doubled when the strains were inoculated in the sowing furrows with respect to seed inoculation (significant with P<0.05). On comparing strains, nodule occupation with seed inoculation was 6% or 10% for the wild type or selected strains, respectively, without a statistically significant difference, while when inoculated in the sowing furrows, nodule occupation increased to 12% and 22%, respectively (differences significant with P<0.05).Instituto de Biotecnologia y Biologia Molecula

Artículo Científico "Merged phytosociological and geographical approach for multiple scale vegetation mapping as a baseline for public environmental policy in Mexico" https://doi.org/10.1111/avsc.12595Questions: What is the potential use of maps derived from a merged geographical and phytosociological approach to support the design of public environmental policies? Do these approaches and data sources deliver complementary land-cover/vegetation maps? Objective: The present article documents a joint phytosociological and geographical approach to improve vegetation cartography in temperate-tropical transitional ecosystems. Location: The research was conducted at national (Mexico) and state (Michoacán) scales. Mexico and Michoacán have been recognized as regions of high ecogeographical complexity, where temperate-tropical conditions intermingle, creating large eco-socio-cultural mosaics. Conclusions: We discuss the scientific challenge of transitioning from land cover into vegetation maps and (dis)similarities of approaches reviewing concepts and analytical (quanti)qualitative instruments. The paper contrasts the present output with the experiences of other countries such as Canada, the United States, Bolivia, and Colombia. Finally, the results are discussed in light of their relevance for constructing public environmental policies, such as land use planning, establishment of protected areas, allocation of incentives for sustainable environmental services, and long-term conservation practices
