The Weather Project: Displacements, Scaffolding and Meteorological Models for a Critical Evaluation of the Public Display

En el año 2003 el artista danés Olafur Eliasson inauguraría en la Sala de las Turbinas de la Tate Modern de Londres su ambiciosa propuesta The Weather Project, proyecto por el que se haría mundialmente famoso y que hoy día sigue siendo una de sus obras más conocidas. Durante los cinco meses que duró la exposición un brumoso atardecer permanecería congelado en el tiempo en el interior de esta importante plaza cubierta de la ciudad inglesa. El escenario orquestado por el artista conseguiría invertir el significado mismo del edificio de Herzog y de Meuron. Por un lado una parte de Londres penetraría al edificio, su atmósfera, y, a través de la experiencia y el recuerdo de la obra, el espectador se llevaría su personal sol al exterior. Edificio y ciudad, intervención y preexistencia quedarían así alterados en esta suerte de “accidente” meteorológico provocado por Eliasson. Con el Sol de la Tate como ejemplo de fondo, el texto que aquí se presenta pretende ahondar en los argumentos, conceptos y estrategias desarrolladas por Olafur Eliasson en sus intervenciones en la esfera pública haciendo hincapié en las relaciones y transformaciones que se producen en escenario y espectador como consecuencia de los desplazamientos conceptuales y materiales propuestos por el artista.In 2003, Danish artist Olafur Eliasson would unveil his ambitious proposal, The Weather Project, in the Turbine Hall at the London Tate Modern. This project then went on to become internationally renowned and today, it remains one of his best–known pieces. During the five months on display, a misty sunset would remain frozen in time within this important indoor space located in the English capital. This scene, put together by the artist, would manage to invert the very meaning of the building by Herzog and de Meuron. On the one hand, a part of London would penetrate the building, its atmosphere and through the experience and memory of the piece, the spectator would take their own personal sun outside. Building and city, intervention and pre–existence would thus be altered in this sort of meteorological “accident” provoked by Eliasson. With the Tate Sun as an example of the background, the text here presented seeks to delve into the arguments, concepts and strategies developed by Olafur Eliasson in his interventions in the public sphere, emphasising the relationships and transformations that take place on stage and in the spectator himself as a result of the conceptual and material displacements proposed by the artist

Los tiempos de San Jerónimo 17: inserciones, continuidades y desplazamientos en un paisaje interior

Su nueva transformación obedeció a la necesidad de convertir un antiguo local comercial en un estudio-taller situado en el centro histórico de la ciudad. Desde el principio, el objetivo fue superar las normas que priorizan una cierta idea constructiva sobre la arquitectura real, "contaminada", olvidando que estas alteraciones indican su verdadera historia con más precisión que una pretendida materialidad ideal. Ya sea una funeraria a mediados del siglo XX o un locutorio con conexión a internet, las diferentes actividades que ocuparon su interior dejaron impresas en sus paredes una serie de vestigios que sugieren nuevas posibilidades. A través de la estrategia de inserción, introduciendo "infraestructuras" dentro de un "paisaje interior" fue posible hacer visible esta dinámica, así como revelar sus diferentes estratos, modelando cada ladrillo y sus heridas, dignificando su presencia como parte de una historia de continua superposición de elementos. San Jerónimo 17 es un proyecto nacido de la oportunidad, de lo que encontramos en el lugar, con el movimiento de materiales de trabajos anteriores o incluso con el descubrimiento de contigüidades inesperadas. // Close to the church from which it received its name, number 17 of San Jerónimo Street in Granada shows a space reveiling its multiple alterations for centuries. Its new transformation obeyed the need to turn an old commercial premises into an atelier situated in the historic center of the city. From the beginning, the aim was to overcome the regulations that prioritize a certain constructive idea over the real, "contaminated" architecture, forgetting that these alterations indicate its true history more accurately than an ideal materiality. Whether it was a funeral home in the mid-twentieth century or a telephone booth center, the different activities that occupied its interior left imprinted on its walls a series of traces that suggest new possibilities. Through the strategy of insertion, introducing “infrastructures” within an “interior landscape” it was possible to make visible this dynamic, as well as reveal their different strata, mapping and modeling each brick, its wounds, dignifying its presence as part of a continuous history of overlapping elements. San Jeronimo 17 is a project born of opportunity, made of what we find in the place, with the movement of materials from previous works or even with the discovery of unexpected artistic contiguities.Universidad de Málaga. Working in the recicled inner city: insertions and extractions

The idea of recicled inner city is conceived from its own account as a living heritage in constant transformation that does not depend on a deliberate formal strategy but on the intertwining time, materials and activities. In the last fifteen years we have studied its many forms and scales through our own work of constructing sites and projects. These projects assume that the activity builds different cities at all times: superimposed cities, running in parallel, continuously enriched. In this sense we can highlight two of our proposals that can clearly reflect this way of understanding the act of recycling the European city, both of them located in Granada (Spain): The first one, Atelier in San Jerónimo street, is a cheap intervention, our own architectural atelier. On a small scale, we propose a course of action based on recycling material and symbolic of a collection of fragments of the city that are physically and conceptually displaced within an old premises (a mortuary and a parlour afterwords). The second one, Babydog Office, is an advertising office inserted in an old building in which the existing brick loading walls are cut, forming, through the reflections, an infinite interior landscape of discharge arcs.Universidad de Málaga. Arquitecturas de anticipación en el litoral andaluz

Póster presentado en la sesión dedicada a Ámbitos, Innovación y Calidad, en las IV Jornadas Internacionales sobre Investigación en Arquitectura y Urbanismo.Esta investigación queda definida geográficamente a partir de dos realidades consideradas como zonas decisivas del paisaje del litoral andaluz: la zona marítimo-terrestre y la ribera del mar, espacio que se hallan bajo la constante influencia de las actividades que se llevan a cabo en sus proximidades y de forma decisiva, por el ciclo del agua. El comportamiento de la costa frente a los agentes anteriores y los análisis recientes sobre la dinámica ascendente del nivel del mar desvelan la necesidad de establecer propuestas que atiendan a las predicciones sobre su evolución, tomando como referencia diferentes escenarios. Inter-Rater Variability in the Evaluation of Lung Ultrasound in Videos Acquired from COVID-19 Patients

12 páginas, 7 figuras, 1 tablaLung ultrasound (LUS) allows for the detection of a series of manifestations of COVID-19, such as B-lines and consolidations. The objective of this work was to study the inter-rater reliability (IRR) when detecting signs associated with COVID-19 in the LUS, as well as the performance of the test in a longitudinal or transverse orientation. Thirty-three physicians with advanced experience in LUS independently evaluated ultrasound videos previously acquired using the ULTRACOV system on 20 patients with confirmed COVID-19. For each patient, 24 videos of 3 s were acquired (using 12 positions with the probe in longitudinal and transverse orientations). The physicians had no information about the patients or other previous evaluations. The score assigned to each acquisition followed the convention applied in previous studies. A substantial IRR was found in the cases of normal LUS (κ = 0.74), with only a fair IRR for the presence of individual B-lines (κ = 0.36) and for confluent B-lines occupying 50% (κ = 0.50). No statistically significant differences between the longitudinal and transverse scans were found. A learning path between the Aljafería and the Alhambra

Se planificó una secuencia de acciones pedagógicas sobre la vincualción existente entre La Alhambra y la Aljafería, como excusa para entrelazar la labor de dos grupos de profesores, de Granada y de Zaragoza, que habrían de trabajar sobre los mismos estudiantes, a lo largo de un curso acadamémico y desde distintas materias. Se planteó una estrategia docente basada en el intercambio de experiencias como sustrato fundamental para procurar el aprendizaje de nuestros estudiantes, toda vez que apostamos por un modelo pedagógico basado en el acompañamiento, en donde la interacción con profesionales ajenos posibilitó una mayor profundización sobre las problemáticas trabajadas. Como aderezo necesario, se organizó un viaje de estudios que permitió, además de hacer algo de turismo y visitar el emplazamiento del ejercicio de proyectos propuesto, relacionarnos con distintos investigadores que abrieron vías de ensayo y de exploración proyectual ciertamente valiosas, cuyos efectos quedaron patentes en los resultados obtenidos.We planned a sequence of pedagogical actions on the link between the Alhambra and the Aljafería, as an excuse to relate the work of two groups of teachers, from Granada and Zaragoza, who would work with the same students, along an academic course and from different subjects. We proposed a teaching strategy based on the exchange of experiences as a basis for our students' learning, while we develop a pedagogical model structured on the accompaniment, where the interaction with outside professionals allowed a deeper understanding of the problems worked in the workshop. As a complement, we organized a study trip that allowed us, in addition to doing some tourism and visiting the site of the proposed project exercise, to interact with different researchers who opened valuable trial routes, whose effects were evident in the final achievements.Peer Reviewe

How to exhibit the edition: active methodologies in the editorial practice of architecture

A lo largo del año 2017 se desarrollaron una serie de actividades en el marco del proyecto de investigación "Laboratorios Editoriales. Nuevos modos, medios y espacios para la edición en arquitectura". El objetivo principal de dicho proyecto fue la identificación y análisis de los nuevos modelos de edición vinculados a la producción arquitectónica. El proyecto se abrió al alumnado de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Granada, haciéndolo partícipe de procesos que fueron desde la selección de contenidos, la creación del discurso expositivo, la fabricación de mobiliario hasta la edición de publicaciones. La comunicación recoge las reflexiones previas e influencias del proyecto, para centrarse en las metodologías desarrolladas en las diferentes actividades realizadas con los alumnos. Finalizando con una reflexión sobre los resultados del proyecto obtenidos de manera conjunta con el alumnado participante, reconociendo la importancia de la incorporación de las prácticas editoriales a la docencia en Arquitectura.Throughout the year 2017, a series of activities were developed within the framework of the research project "Editorial Laboratories, new modes, media and spaces for architecture publishing". The main objective of this project was the identification and analysis of new editorial models linked to architectural production. The project was shared with the students of the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Granada, including them into processes like the selection of contents, the creation of an exhibition discourse, the manufacture of furniture and the edition of some publications. This paper gathers previous reflections and influences of the project, in order to focus on the methodologies developed within the activities carried out with the students. The results of the project, obtained together with them, are discussed to show the importance of including the editorial practices into Architectural teaching.Peer Reviewe

Educational exhibitions: didacticism, transfer and innovation into the academic field

Más allá del carácter divulgativo, las exposiciones de resultados académicos en las escuelas de arquitectura son una metodología activa para la organización docente del taller de proyectos arquitectónicos. Vistas desde una pedagogía más experimental y abierta, las exposiciones docentes se convierten en herramientas de innovación docente y de transferencia del conocimiento para el alumnado y la sociedad en general. Este texto se centra en las experiencias desarrolladas por un grupo de profesores de proyectos arquitectónicos en la E.T.S.A orientadas a convertir las exposiciones docentes en un instrumento didáctico y de investigación, una metodología activa abierta a los procesos de trabajo que se generan en torno a ellas y a los lugares en los que se exhiben.Beyond their divulgative character, the exhibitions of academic results in the schools of architecture are an active methodology for the academic organization into the architectural design studios. Viewed from a more experimental and open pedagogy, the teaching exhibitions become tools for teaching innovation and knowledge transfer for students and society in general. This text focuses on the experiences developed by a group of professors of architectural design at the E.T.S.A. in Granada aimed at turning the academic exhibitions into a teaching and research tool, an active methodology open to the work processes generated around them and the places where they are exhibited.Peer Reviewe
