Low X-ray Luminosity Galaxy Clusters. III: Weak Lensing Mass Determination at 0.18 z 0.70
This is the third of a series of papers of low X-ray luminosity galaxy
clusters. In this work we present the weak lensing analysis of eight clusters,
based on observations obtained with the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph in the
, and passbands. For this purpose, we have developed a pipeline
for the lensing analysis of ground-based images and we have performed tests
applied to simulated data. We have determined the masses of seven galaxy
clusters, six of them measured for the first time. For the four clusters with
availably spectroscopic data, we find a general agreement between the velocity
dispersions obtained via weak lensing assuming a Singular Isothermal Sphere
profile, and those obtained from the redshift distribution of member galaxies.
The correlation between our weak lensing mass determinations and the X-ray
luminosities are suitably fitted by other observations of the
relation and models
Influence of plasma-generated negative oxygen ion impingement on magnetron sputtered amorphous SiO2 thin films during growth at low temperatures
Growth of amorphous SiO2 thin films deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering at low temperatures
has been studied under different oxygen partial pressure conditions. Film microstructures varied from
coalescent vertical column-like to homogeneous compact microstructures, possessing all similar
refractive indexes. A discussion on the process responsible for the different microstructures is carried
out focusing on the influence of (i) the surface shadowing mechanism, (ii) the positive ion
impingement on the film, and (iii) the negative ion impingement. We conclude that only the trend
followed by the latter and, in particular, the impingement of O- ions with kinetic energies between 20
and 200 eV, agrees with the resulting microstructural changes. Overall, it is also demonstrated that
there are two main microstructuring regimes in the growth of amorphous SiO2 thin films by
magnetron sputtering at low temperatures, controlled by the amount of O2 in the deposition reactor,
which stem from the competition between surface shadowing and ion-induced adatom surface

IFE Plant Technology Overview and contribution to HiPER proposal
HiPER is the European Project for Laser Fusion that has been able to join 26 institutions and signed under formal government agreement by 6 countries inside the ESFRI Program of the European Union (EU). The project is already extended by EU for two years more (until 2013) after its first preparatory phase from 2008. A large work has been developed in different areas to arrive to a design of repetitive operation of Laser Fusion Reactor, and decisions are envisioned in the next phase of Technology Development or Risk Reduction for Engineering or Power Plant facilities (or both). Chamber design has been very much completed for Engineering phase and starting of preliminary options for Reactor Power Plant have been established and review here
Functionality and Quality of Life with Parkinson’s Disease after Use of a Dynamic Upper Limb Orthosis: A Pilot Study
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic, neurodegenerative movement disorder, whose symptoms have a negative impact on quality of life and functionality. Although its main treatment is pharmacological, non-pharmacological aids such as the dynamic elastomeric fabric orthosis (DEFO) merit an evaluation. Our objective is to assess the DEFO in upper limb (UL) functional mobility and in the quality of life of PD patients. A total of 40 patients with PD participated in a randomized controlled crossover study, and were assigned to a control group (CG) and to an experimental group (EG). Both groups used the DEFO for two months, the experimental group the first two months of the study and the control group the last two. Motor variables were measured in the ON and OFF states at the baseline assessment and at two months. Differences from the baseline assessment were observed in some motor items of the Kinesia assessment, such as rest tremor, amplitude, rhythm or alternating movements in the ON and OFF states with and without orthosis. No differences were found in the unified Parkinson’s disease rating scale (UPDRS) or the PD quality-of-life questionnaire. The DEFO improves some motor aspects of the UL in PD patients but this does not translate to the amelioration of the standard of functional and quality-of-life scales
Multivariate Statistical Approach for Anomaly Detection and Lost Data Recovery in Wireless Sensor Networks
Data loss due to integrity attacks or malfunction constitutes a principal concern in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The present paper introduces a novel data loss/modification detection and recovery scheme in this context. Both elements, detection and data recovery, rely on a multivariate statistical analysis approach that exploits spatial density, a common feature in network environments such as WSNs. To evaluate the proposal, we consider WSN scenarios based on temperature sensors, both simulated and real. Furthermore, we consider three different routing algorithms, showing the strong interplay among (a) the routing strategy, (b) the negative effect of data loss on the network performance, and (c) the data recovering capability of the approach. We also introduce a novel data arrangement method to exploit the spatial correlation among the sensors in a more efficient manner. In this data arrangement, we only consider the nearest nodes to a given affected sensor, improving the data recovery performance up to 99%. According to the results, the proposed mechanisms based on multivariate techniques improve the robustness of WSNs against data loss. This work has been partially supported by Spanish MICINN (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) through Project TEC2011-22579, by Spanish MINECO (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad) through Project TIN2014-60346-R, and the FPU P6A grants program of the University of Granada
Abnormalities on 1q and 7q are associated with poor outcome in sporadic Burkitt's lymphoma. A cytogenetic and comparative genomic hybridization study
Comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) studies have demonstrated a high incidence of chromosomal imbalances in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. However, the information on the genomic imbalances in Burkitt's Lymphoma (BL) is scanty. Conventional cytogenetics was performed in 34 cases, and long-distance PCR for t(8;14) was performed in 18 cases. A total of 170 changes were present with a median of four changes per case (range 1-22). Gains of chromosomal material (143) were more frequent than amplifications (5) or losses (22). The most frequent aberrations were gains on chromosomes 12q (26%), Xq (22%), 22q (20%), 20q (17%) and 9q (15%). Losses predominantly involved chromosomes 13q (17%) and 4q (9%). High-level amplifications were present in the regions 1q23-31 (three cases), 6p12-p25 and 8p22-p23. Upon comparing BL vs Burkitt's cell leukemia (BCL), the latter had more changes (mean 4.3 +/- 2.2) than BL (mean 2.7 +/- 3.2). In addition, BCL cases showed more frequently gains on 8q, 9q, 14q, 20q, and 20q, 9q, 8q and 14q, as well as losses on 13q and 4q. Concerning outcome, the presence of abnormalities on 1q (ascertained either by cytogenetics or by CGH), and imbalances on 7q (P=0.01) were associated with a short survival
Status of global fits to neutrino oscillations
We review the present status of global analyses of neutrino oscillations,
taking into account the most recent neutrino data including the latest KamLAND
and K2K updates presented at Neutrino2004, as well as state-of-the-art solar
and atmospheric neutrino flux calculations. We give the two-neutrino solar +
KamLAND results, as well as two-neutrino atmospheric + K2K oscillation regions,
discussing in each case the robustness of the oscillation interpretation
against departures from the Standard Solar Model and the possible existence of
non-standard neutrino physics. Furthermore, we give the best fit values and
allowed ranges of the three-flavour oscillation parameters from the current
worlds' global neutrino data sample and discuss in detail the status of the
small parameters \alpha \equiv \Dms/\Dma as well as ,
which characterize the strength of CP violating effects in neutrino
oscillations. We also update the degree of rejection of four-neutrino
interpretations of the LSND anomaly in view of the most recent developments.Comment: v6: In the last Appendix we provide updated neutrino oscillation
results which take into account the relevant oscillation data released by the
MINOS and KamLAND collaboration
Single versus tandem autologous stem-cell transplantation in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma and high-risk cytogenetics. A retrospective, open-label study of the PETHEMA/Spanish Myeloma Group (GEM)
Tandem ASCT has been suggested as a valid approach to improve the prognosis of patients with MM and HR cytogenetic. In this observational, retrospective study, 213 patients with newly diagnosed MM and HR cytogenetic in 35 hospitals from the Spanish Myeloma Group underwent single or tandem ASCT between January 2015 and December 2019 after induction with VTD/VRD. HR cytogenetic was defined as having ≥1 of the following: del17p, t(4;14), t(14;16) or gain 1q21. More patients in the tandem group had R-ISS 3 and >1 cytogenetic abnormality at diagnosis. With a median follow-up of 31 months (range, 10–82), PFS after single ASCT was 41 months versus 48 months with tandem ASCT (p = 0.33). PFS in patients with del17p undergoing single ASCT was 41 months, while 52% of patients undergoing tandem ASCT were alive and disease free at 48 months. In conclusion, tandem ASCT partly overcomes the bad prognosis of HR cytogenetic
