partida. The application of validation processes that can provide robustness and reliability to results obtained from GIS
analysis and models is still needed.
The main purpose of the work presented here was to test whether the validation methodology proposed by Gómez
Delgado and Barredo (2005), applied to a Multicriteria Evaluation (MCE) process carried out in a GIS environment,
could be extended to other GIS analysis whose results could also have an impact in decision making, for instance in
regards to the determination of the trajectory and construction of new infrastructures in the territory. Thus, a test was
undertaken in two areas of the Comunidad de Madrid (the Region of Madrid). A validation process based on the
combination of sensitivity and uncertainty analyses was applied to the results of an optimal computation analysis.
With this methodology we aim at verifying the robustness of results and the eventual impact that errors in the
ingested data could have
Comparative study of probability distribution distances to define a metric for the stability of multi-source biomedical research data
Research biobanks are often composed by data
from multiple sources. In some cases, these different subsets
of data may present dissimilarities among their probability
density functions (PDF) due to spatial shifts. This, may lead
to wrong hypothesis when treating the data as a whole.
Also, the overall quality of the data is diminished. With the
purpose of developing a generic and comparable metric to
assess the stability of multi-source datasets, we have studied the
applicability and behaviour of several PDF distances over shifts
on different conditions (such as uni- and multivariate, different
types of variable, and multi-modality) which may appear in
real biomedical data. From the studied distances, we found
information-theoretic based and Earth Mover’s Distance to be
the most practical distances for most conditions. We discuss
the properties and usefulness of each distance according to the
possible requirements of a general stability metric.Sáez Silvestre, C.; Robles Viejo, M.; García Gómez, JM. (2013). Factors influencing knowledge management in university’ s research
This research is focused on which are the enabler and inhibitor factors that influence the knowledge management practices by research groups in a Colombian university. It considers also the influence of the Colombia’s National System of Science, Technology and Innovation in the research groups to manage their knowledge. The methodology used in this study is based on the grounded theory. The data were collected through in depth-interviews addressed to research group’s coordinators, who where selected according to different criteria to obtain diversity of contexts. The results confirm the factors identified in the literature, and besides two more factors are identified as inhibitor to knowledge management in research groups: time employed in other tasks and the quantity of persons designated to investigate. From the results obtained, and as future line of research, it is suggested to deeply study the knowledge cycle’s activities, taking into account the enablers and inhibitors factors identified
