The group of seniors is one of the sectors of the population whose presence in the Spanish society will increase in the coming years. Public libraries, as a center of services and resources of interest to the community, should consider this group as a preferred destination for the planning, design and deliver their service offerings. We present the results of a survey of Spanish public libraries to find out what services and resources of interest to the group of elderly service, the most common uses, and trends that can be expected in the short and medium termEl colectivo de personas mayores es uno de los sectores de población cuya presencia en la sociedad española irá en aumento en los próximos años.
If something has characterized public libraries for a long time, it is their job. constant and tireless for the encouragement and promotion of reading. For bliss
purpose, has set - and continues to implement, innovate and adapt at all times - all kinds of initiatives, resources and strategies with the pretension to bring the taste and love of reading closer to citizens. One of the most extended services in the library offer in recent years are the reading clubs, through which reading is promoted and promoted of books. The current health crisis has caused changes in the provision of library services that, in the case of reading clubs, has led to the rise and consolidation of the so-called virtual reading club
A concrete proposal for using a Dynamic Geometry System at an educational setting in a STEM environment (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and, particularly, in the subject of Mathematics, consists on the generation and handling of digital simulations of mechanical linkages.Herein, in this article we collect proposals arguing for the teaching of mechanical models or articulated mechanisms and curve drawing devices in particular, as a path to apply complex mathematical ideas and notions which are based on Dynamic Geometry. In addition, this perspective constitute a powerful resource for the iniciation and reproduction of historical contexts of scientific experience in the classroom. We present two digital repositories of articulated mechanisms, the Kinematics Models For Design Digital Library and the Laboratorio delle Macchine Matematiche together with a review of educative proposals dealing with these mechanisms.
The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) has been selected to participate in an international design and construction contest of a self-sufficient solar house. The goal is to build something that would be both, comfortable and capable of dealing with modern equipments, and beyond that, finding harmony between technology and environment. This adventure is called Solar Decathlon. Represents a unique educational and investigative experience for this university in which alumni and professors of multiple disciplines collaborate in one project, making a sustainable house born in the merging of bioclimatic architecture, the use of solar energy and domotics.
Nerve-sparing versus non-nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy: surgical and long-term oncological outcomes
Cervical cancer; Surgical treatment; MorbidityCàncer cervical; Tractament quirúrgic; MorbilidadCàncer cervical; Tractament quirúrgic; MorbiditatOBJECTIVES:
There are controversies regarding the long-term oncological safety of preservation of pelvic innervation during radical hysterectomy (RH). This study aimed to analyze the feasibility and safety of nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy (NSRH) for cervical cancer compared with non-NSRH following 17 years of experience in a tertiary cancer referral center.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
Between May 1999 and June 2016, all patients who underwent RH for cervical cancer were followed-up prospectively. Comparison analyses regarding surgical outcomes, complications, overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were performed between patients treated with NSRH and non-NSRH.
RESULTS:
A total of 188 patients were included (113 non-NSRH and 75 NSRH). The median follow-up was 112 months. Estimated blood loss and hospital stay were all significantly lower in the NSRH group. Overall intraoperative complication rate (p = 0.02) and need for transfusion (p = 0.016) were lower in the NSRH group. There were no differences in the median operation time, OS, DFS, CSS, or recurrence rates between the NSRH and non-NSRH group.
CONCLUSIONS:
Our study provides a wide perspective on the developments of nerve-sparing procedures for the management of women with early-stage cervical cancer. Our results suggest that NSRH is a feasible and safe procedure, with reduced morbidity outcomes
