Despite what you may understand from what the title says, the aim of this study is to determine the characteristics of the emotions experienced by young women when they play opposition games This quasi-experimental study is a part of another larger research where a group of 169 first year students of the Sports and Physical Activities degree from Murcia and Malaga carried out opposition games, with and without competition. This research was presented at the 4th edition of the 2012 Congress. After each game, the students registered the emotions they felt (Games and Emotions Scale questionnaire) and also the score (win or lose) in the case of competition games. The data reflects that there were significant differences between positive emotions (high intensity) and ambiguous emotions (intermediate intensity), and positive versus negative emotions (low intensity). The data also showed differences between the intensity of emotions in competitive games and non competitive games (curiously the same level of high emotional intensity was registered in those who lost the competition as those who won). So it seems that the first sense of the title is correct: girls enjoy having opposition… in competition and opposition games

Post-combustion calcium looping process with a high stable sorbent activity by recarbonation

[EN] This paper presents a novel sorbent regeneration technique for post-combustion calcium looping CO2 capture systems. The advantage of this technique is that it can drastically reduce the consumption of limestone in the plant without affecting its efficiency and without the need for additional reagents. The method is based on the re-carbonation of carbonated particles circulating from the carbonator using pure CO2 obtained from the gas stream generated in the calciner. The aim is to maintain the CO2 carrying capacity of the sorbent close to optimum values for CaL post-combustion systems (around 0.2). This is achieved by placing a small regeneration reactor between the carbonator and the calciner. This reactor increases slightly the conversion of CaO to carbonate so that it exceeds the so-called maximum CO2 carrying capacity of the sorbent. This increase compensates for the loss of CO2 carrying capacity that the solids undergo in the next calcination-carbonation cycle. Two series of experiments carried out in a thermogravimetric analyzer over 100 cycles of carbonation-recarbonation-calcination show that the inclusion of this recarbonation step is responsible for an increase in the residual CO2 carrying capacity from 0.07 to 0.16. A conceptual design of the resulting capture system shows that a limestone make-up flow designed specifically for a CO2 capture system can approach zero, when the solid sorbents purged from the CaL system are re-used to desulfurize the flue gas in the existing power plant. We thank the European Commission for the financial support received through the “CaOling” Project, funded under the 7th Framework Programme.Peer reviewe

Heat requirements in a calciner of CaCO3 integrated in a CO2 capture system using CaO

7 pages, 8 figures, 1 table.-- Available online on Jun 12, 2007.Several systems for CO2 capture using CaO as regenerable sorbent are under development. In addition to a carbonation step, they all need a regeneration step (calcination of CaCO3) to produce a concentrated stream of CO2. Different options for calcination may be possible, but they all share common operating windows that appear when the mass and heat balances in the system are solved incorporating equilibrium data, sorbent performance information, and fuel composition (sulphur and ash content). These relatively narrow operating windows are calculated and discussed in this work. Due to sorbent performance limitations, low carbonation levels of the sorbent in the carbonator are expected and the heat demand in the calciner is dominated by the heating of inert solids flowing in the carbonation chemical loop. High make up flows of fresh limestone reduce this effect by increasing the average reactivity of the sorbent, but they also increase the heat demand in the calciner to calcine the fresh feed of limestone. Hence, an optimum level of sorbent activity appears under different operating conditions, processes and fuel characteristic, and these are discussed in this work. This paper contains work from a project partially funded by the European Commission (C3Capture and ISCC projects) and the project CENIT-CO2 in Spain, where we acknowledge funding from Union Fenosa SA. Ercilla, Gemma ... et. al.-- Regional Committee on Mediterranean Neogene Stratigraphy (RCMNS) Interim Colloquium 2015 - Mediterranean-Atlantic Gateways (Neogene to present), 5-8 May 2015, Rabat, Marocco.-- 1 pageThe spatial and temporal evolution of contouritic features as well as changes in their morphology and type suggest: i) their formation roughly agrees with the present-day Mediterranean water masses distribution, i.e., the Low Dense Mediterranean Water-LMW (Winter Intermediate Water + Levantine Intermediate Water) in the Spanish margin, and the High Dense Mediterranean Water ¿DMW( Deep Mediterranean Water) in the subbsains and Moroccan margin; ii) the important role played by the changing landscape during the Pliocene and Quaternary, with important consequences for the water masses circulation, especially for the DMW. Point and linear barriers, and troughs and elongated subbasins, condition a complex current distribution, especially for the Quaternary; iii) a higher energetic recirculation of the DMW in the Western Alboran Basin; iv) a more an enhanced density contrast between the LMW and DMW during the Quaternary; and v) larger vertical and horizontal displacements of the water mass interfaces during the Quaternary related to 4th-order glacioeustatic change. These frist paleoceanographic reconstructions have implication for the ventilation of Mediterranean waters trough the Strait of Gibraltar, Mediterranean Outflow Water formation, Altantic-Mediterranean interchange and then for the AMOC and climatic changes in the past.Peer Reviewe

Colonoscopy quality assessment in a mass population screening programme based on faecal occult blood test

    Get PDF
Background and aim: the success of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening programmes largely depends on the quality of the events, processes and outcomes and therefore, quality assurance of endoscopy is an essential component. The quality indicators for colonoscopy in a screening programme setting are different from those performed in symptomatic people. The objective of this study was to report the main quality indicators of colonoscopies performed after a positive faecal occult blood test (FOBT) in a CRC screening programme in Catalonia. Methods: the period of study includes three rounds of the CRC screening programme from June 2006 to July 2013. Two types of FOBT were used: a qualitative biochemical guaiac-based test (gFOBT) and a quantitative immunochemical test (FIT). Quality indicators analysed in this study were compared to recommended colonoscopy standards from the published guidelines. Results: during the study period, 1,806 colonoscopies were performed in 1,691 individuals with a positive FOBT. All indicators were within the standard except waiting time to colonoscopy. Caecal intubation rate was 95.6 % and adequate bowel cleansing 93.6 %. Adenoma detection rate was better using FIT than gFOBT, 30.7 and 3.8 per 1,000 screenees, respectively. Cancer detection rate was also greater using FIT. Nearly 62 % of cancers were diagnosed at an early stage. The overall complication rate was 10.7 . Conclusion: although the majority of results reached the recommended standards, some areas have been identified for quality enhancement. Continuous monitoring of quality indicators is essential for improving the current effectiveness of CRC screening programmes

The knowledge of the emotional experience in driving educational contexts is an aspect rarely analyzed by specialized literature. However, teachers face situations where emotions and their management are key to professional development. In physical education, this knowledge is even more relevant given the driving nature of the content. The aim of this research was to identify emotional intensities during competitive and non-competitive practice of opposition sports games according to the participant’s gender. 169 students participated and completed the GES questionnaire at the end of each activity. Generalized estimating equations showed significant differences (p <.001) in the variable types of emotion, outcome and gender. Positive emotions were experienced more intensely than the rest of emotions during games. The data also showed that the emotional intensity in competitive games were higher than those without competition. Gender was a determining factor in the emotional variations. Girls experienced greater intensities regardless of the obtained result.

"Snorkelling" vs. "diving" in mixed micelles probed by means of a molecular bathymeter

[EN] A photoactive bathymeter based on a carboxylic acid moiety covalently linked to a signalling methoxynaphthalene (MNP) fluorophore has been designed to prove the concept of "snorkelling" vs. "diving" in mixed micelles (MM). The carboxylic acid "floats" on the MM surface, while the MNP unit sinks deep in MM. The rate constants of MNP fluorescence quenching by iodide, which remains basically in water, consistently decrease with increasing spacer length, revealing different regions. This is associated with the distance MNP should "dive" in MM to achieve protection from aqueous reactants. Unequivocal proof of the exergonic photoinduced electron transfer was obtained from the UV-visible spectral signature of I-3(-) upon steady-state photolysis. The applicability of the bathymeter was examined upon testing a family of MNP derivatives. The obtained results were validated by comparison with different lipophilicity tests: (i) a modified version of the K-ow partition coefficient and (ii) the retention factor on thin layer chromatography. This concept could potentially be extended to test drugs or pharmacophores exhibiting any photoactive moiety.Financial support from the Spanish Government (SEV-2016-0683), Red RETICS de Investigacion de Reacciones Adversas a Alergenos y Farmacos (RIRAAF), Instituto de Salud Carlos III (RD012/0013, RD16/0006/0030, FIS PI16/01877), VLC-Campus and the Generalitat Valenciana (Prometeo Program) is gratefully acknowledged.Rodríguez Muñiz, GM.; Gomez Mendoza, M.; Nuin Pla, NE.; Andreu Ros, MI.; Marín García, ML.; Miranda Alonso, MÁ. The link between the emotions and the physiological variables is increasingly researched by the field of study of Physical Education and Sport. The aim of this work, which is the result of a bibliographic review, is to analyze those studies researching the possible correlations, both positive and negative, between the emotions and the biological parameters. In this sense, at a hormonal level, this work will analyze the relationship between cortisol and the psychophysiological stress, where this hormone is a factor that can be used as an indicator of the emotional state, and where a prolonged negative emotional state can entail psychophysical disorders. Regarding the analysis on the electroencephalographic activity and the emotions,it must be noticed the close relationship between them – we can create reliabledatabases of emotions resulting from physiological signs. We also find close linksbetween the heart rate variability and the mood. Finally, we analyze works that study the relationship between the body composition and the mental identity, and we find a correlation between the positive emotion and the type of somatotype.
